Fish Flingers Guide

Created originally by WiseThoth, updated by Vyre Lin.

Fish Flingers is a fishing Distraction and Diversion done mainly for fishing experience, fishing outfit and tackle boxes. During the game, you can catch 6 species of fish, each one requiring a specific combination (which changes every game) of hook, bait and weight to be efficiently caught. You do not need to take anything to join Fish Flingers. If you are alone, it is recommended that you join the fc “2flingfish” and play fish flingers on world 89, so you can share hints and combos you find with other players, as well as being more likely to catch big fish.

You will need to choose different combinations to try to get 100% rating on all species. To discover the correct combinations, you basically need to try different ones on each of the 6 species until you get 100% (trial and error).
Each correct bait, hook and range account for 33% rating. If you choice is “close” to the correct one, you will get 16%. By changing the bait, hook and weight and seeing how much it affects your total rating, you can discover the correct combination.

As well as species having to get 100% rating for the heaviest weight, the species of fish also impacts on the weight you can get. In the six species of fish, 199 is the heaviest weight you can possibly get. The way to tell if the species you’re catching is the heaviest species is by clicking the ratings button under the recent catches screen.

The final impact on your score is the big fish. These are found after obtaining 100% rating in a species and having another player nearby. You will see a red message in the chat box explaining that you have hooked a big fish. Other players will then be able to click the fishing spot and help to catch the fish. You can assist in a maximum of 6 big fish and catching them yourself means that you can get a fish weighing up to 250.

Ways to find out via ‘close’ combinations

- Bait: Bait can be close depending on whether the bait is a similar shape or a similar colour. For example, if worms give 16% rating, the correct bait will be either maggots or shrimp, due to it being wormlike or brown.
- Weight: Weight is a 16% rating and ‘close’ if the weight is in +/-1 range of the correct weight. For example, if you have a large weight and a medium weight making a range of 5, the correct weight will be a large weight, medium weight and small weight (range 6) or a large weight and small weight (range 4)
- Hook: A hook can be ‘close’ and 16% weight in groups of 2. Standard hooks and slim hooks are close to each other, large hooks and double hooks are close to each other and bone hooks and wooden hooks are close to each other. With that said, if you have a ‘close’ combination, switch to the other alternative in the hook group.

General information/tips

- Before starting the game, you can ask the fisherman for some advice (right click him on the ff lobby and ask for hint). He will give you a hint about the combination of one of the species – the best part of doing fish flingers with other people is that you can share hints, so it’s much easier and faster to find all of the combos
- There are six species but only four catching areas so you must alter your combinations in 2 areas to find the species.
- The heaviest species is different every game, and it is the only one which can get you 199 weight. When you have 100% with it, the fish will always end in a 9 (such as 119, 79, 169, etc.) The lightest species weight also finishes with a 9 with 100% rating but the heaviest weight will only be 179 and the lightest is 29 rather than 49. The heavy will always end with a 5, and no other species will.

Rewards

- Very good fishing experience (at level 99, having a score usually between 40-45, I get around 21.5k to 22.5k xp per 10 minutes game – an average total of 132k xp/h!)
- Fishing tokens
- Possibility of medals
Fishing tokens can be exchanged for raw fish, tackle boxes and the fishing outfit. Tackle boxes are used to store bait, fishing tools, raw fish (which can be tele-banked) and can be used to see the time until the next competition. The medals and fishing tokens required for obtaining tackle boxes goes up as you progress, as does the amount of items you can store in the tackle box and the daily limit of fish that can be tele-banked.
There are four medals that you can get every game:
Junior angler – find the perfect combination for three species.
Master angler – find the perfect combination for all six species.
Team player – giving at least 6 assists on catching other players’ big fish.
Whopper – catching at least 3 big fish.
Getting 100% on all species is usually the easiest way to get at least 2 medals every game.

You can access the minigame

- Inside the fishing guild
- Catherby beach
- Southern part of living rock caverns
- Shilo Village
- Piscatoris fishing colony
- Barbarian Village
- North west of Lumbridge
- South east of Lumbridge swamp
- Burthorpe (north of lake)
- South west of Draynor village
- At the docks south of Burgh De Rott

Barbarian Assault

(this guide hasn't been updated, I'll do it after Jagex updates ba in few months)
In Barb Assault you have to fight penance monsters (ranger, fighter, Healer, Runner, queen). You must go through 10 waves of this each time getting more difficult. To do this you must work together as if one person does not you will struggle.
You have a team of 5 players, and within each team there are 4 roles- Attacker, Defender, Collector, Healer. It is vital that you communicate with one another. You will be given a horn at the start of a wave.
In the top right hand corner of your screen you will see the wave number you are on, and under this more importantly is a picture of an ear saying what you must do.
Under this is what you must call with your horn (mouth image). Important to note this is what the other person must do. Right click the horn and click what the other person must do. (This will probably make more sense if/when you play it)
The roles
Attacker- The attacker attacks (surprise) the fighters and rangers. He communicates with the collector, who says what attack style to use.
Collector- Collector collects eggs of a certain colour which are called out by the attacker, from the ground which are dropped when penance are killed by attacker or defender. Eggs are then loaded into the cannon in the arena.
Healer- Healers have the job of killing the penance healers by using certain types poisonous foods on them.(*) These are called out by the defender. Healers have the other duty of healing others during the wave.(**)
Defender- probably the toughest role to do well in. They must drop certain food(*) to lure the runners onto traps.(easier said than done in some cases), they communicate with the healers.
(*) Poisonous food and food for runners can be gotten through the dispensers beside where you spawn.
(**) Healers are given an item that holds water from pool (this is on the other side of where you spawn).Using it on others will heal them.

Now onto the rewards
You can either get points or xp potential . To switch between the 2, turn the pole until it says the one you want.
Points can be traded in for penance armour like fighter torso for example or penance gloves.
XP potential is stored in your own penance horn. This allows mining, firemaking and agility xp earned to be doubled. To have a full horn you must complete 10 rounds (consisting of 10 waves each). AMount of xp you get from the horn depends on what skill you do and your level in that skill.

Do note you will not be wasting (much ) time doing this activity, and it is certainly more entertaining than agility lol. What I mean by this if you are getting 50k xp an hour in agility, you will and spend 2 hrs at it, if you played BA for an hour and done agility for an hour your xp gained would still be about 100k.
Also if your team are only filling their horn, it is faster to repeat the first 5 waves over and over.

NOTE
: the current bonus xp rates (after eoc) are around 400k for agility and mining and 1.2m for firemaking, with a good team.

Wave 10- The Queen-
The wave starts off as usual with runners, healers, fighters and rangers.
When all are killed the Queen shall come into the arena. To kill the queen you must create an "omega egg". To do this the following must be done:
1. The collector collects the yellow eggs that will spawn under the queen. They will then use it on the healers to give eggs to them
2. Healers dunk eggs in poison springs, and they pass them on to attackers
3. Attackers gather spikes from the spiked mushrooms (located around arena), they use spikes on the eggs and them pass them on to the defender
4. The defender dunks eggs into lava craters and then pass them on to the collector
5. Collector then finally loads the eggs into the cannon where the whole team can shoot the Queen!
Tips:
Takes 8 eggs to kill the Queen, so gather 8 of them at once to make it faster
I would recommend having 2 healers here as team members may take alot of damage from the queen, one can heal and one can take care of eggs.
Thats it really for this wave.

Other General Tips-
Try to use the right food/style/egg as quickly as possible, other wise the team will lose some points at the end of the wave
I would recommend 2 attackers for the first 5-6 waves, and then having 2 healers (one to kill penance other to heal team)
Attackers should bring a weapon with all 4 attack styles (attack, strength, controlled and defensive) note that the whip does not have strength so alternatives include Korasis sword, Dragon scimitar, dragon dagger etc.
If you have an enhanced excalibur, bring it, the spec heals 200 lp and makes it easier for the healer. (dont worry if you dont have it)
The penance master horn and normal horn both give the same amount of xp potential
Remember:
EAR- What you are supposed to DO
MOUTH- What you are supposed to CALL
