These changes to this item will make their price actually reasonable. If jagex intended them to be the wildy version of ed4 enchantments, then they messed up on how rare they are.

1. Make them tradeable. Same buy limit as the dark facets.

2. Make them rewarded from sack of wild rewards.

3. Increase their drop rate. 4/2974 is too rare, make their new drop rate 1/500. This will bring them down to more fair prices.

4. Make sack of (very) wild rewards reward dark onyx core shards, which are tradeable and you can combine 100 of them to make a dark onyx core.

5. Add the ability to convert X amount of portable obelisks into a dark onyx core. This has no cooldown and rewards no xp.

1: Dark core tradeable.
2: Shards untradeable.
3: Obelisks can be shattered into obelisk fragments. Fragments can combine into shards.

The dark onyx core being tradeable would be wonderful, since otherwise it roughly locks out the cheaper enchantments simply on opportunity cost, unless you're lucky enough to drop one yourself.

Seeing as they're worth a hundred million and some right now, having them drop more frequently as shards would also be a great way to spread the gains out rather than having it be pure RNG. I personally think the drop rate for the shards should be tuned so that a full core drops roughly as often as it currently does. But I also think that the shards should not be tradeable. 400/2974-ish would make it feel a lot more consistent, even if you have to get a hundred, than 4/2974 for a single one.

Rather than portable obelisks being usable in their own quantity for a bonus core now and then, I think that the obelisk fragments should be convertible in some ratio to core shards as well. 100:1, but they remain fully tradeable. The full obelisk itself, seeing as a player only really needs one - or two for a backup - should be shatterable into either some number of ragments, or a small quantity of shards.

not sure where you got the drop rate unless it was already exposed by jagex but i dont think theyre too rare in my opinion.

as for making them tradeable i can see that being a valid suggestion.

the normal sacks should give shards this i can agree on too.

the drop rate as far as i can see is 1/1k which is fine by me, no change needed.

and as for converting port obbys im a no for that one, having both shards and convertible items is too much.
pssst....we know who you are. Hail Sithis!

WILDERNESS NINJA STRIKE! - THIS WEEK IN RUNESCAPE
13 March 2023 Game Updates

Special bags have had a major overhaul when it comes to rewards. This includes less chance of Dragonrider boots/gloves, reduced salvage and vastly increased chance of getting Dark Cores.

Thank you jagex for making dark onyx cores reasonable to get! Don't care about the nerfs today when this has happened.
