Hi everyone.

The last of the board members bowed and left the room, and the the office was plunged into silence punctuated only by the ticking of an antique mantelpiece clock. With a sigh, Ulkir D Chip stretched his back until he felt a crack, and sank into his seat. He only had a moment of shut-eye before his desk rang. Opening his eyes, he saw the pudgy face of Henry, the parliamentary secretary.
Sighing again, Ulkir asked, "Yes?"
"Your Majesty, this week's legislation has arrived, would you like me to bring it in?"
"Give me a ten minute breather," said Ulkir, and ended the call.
Henry's face disappeared from the screen, revealing the cluttered desktop. Charity meeting notes, statue proposals, sponsorship requests. Ulkir's eyes wandered to a file in the corner, nearly hidden by a picture of a new hospital. It was the oldest file there, and had never been opened. He thought back to what his father had said.
"One day, you'll get bored of the pomp and splendour. You'll want an escape, an outlet."
A young Ulkir had found that hard to believe. His father had kept him isolated from the royal court and had encouraged him to live a normal childhood, leaving Ulkir eager to jump on the throne. But now, twenty years after the inauguration, Ulkir understood. It had been exciting for the early kings, fighting for the stability of a young nation. But Nera had been a constitutional monarchy for over a thousand years, and Ulkir was only a pretty face on a stamp.
He tapped on the file and read.
