I'd just like to check if the maximum four-line signature rule still applies anymore? I've checked the Code of Conduct and the Forum Specific Rules because I want to post cute little animal ASCII art in some of my threads. If I'm not wrong, there used to be a maximum four-line signature rule but I've been absent from the forums in 2016 so I might've missed out some information. The Code of Conduct stipulates not to post ASCII art outside of its designated threads. Of course, I'm afraid of transgressing boundaries so up til now, I've limited my art to only three lines. So I'd like to check what're the current rules regarding ASCII art as of 2017?
^ This issue was addressed at some point within the last year or two, although I don't remember where you might find the original post.
I remember the general gist of it being that the size of the art matters more than the number of lines. Four lines is definitely still acceptable. In some cases you can post something that is larger. For example, thread logos/designs are the main exceptions. If you are posting something frequently (like a signature), then I would limit it to four lines.
If it's something that is only posted once, like at the beginning of the thread, or if it doesn't derail the thread, then it is probably fine. Just don't be obnoxious about it and you should be good.
I have the post clarification from 4 years ago if that helps

I've been asked if I'd add a little regarding the size of signatures and the Forum rules.
The rule as it has been for a long time is as found in the runescape wiki:
Home // RuneScape Wikia // Forum FAQ
'Post signatures are not to have more than four lines of text. If a forum moderator deems that your signature could be classed as spam, they are allowed to ask users to remove the signature from further posts.'
However it was noted with the change in forum tools etc. in particular with the use of underlines, signatures were sometimes 5 lines or even 6 lines and these were not being moderated.
So, if you keep your signature to 4 lines of text, as long as the content is appropriate, you know you are within the rules.
However, the issue is really more to do with the size of signature rather than the number of lines per se. The issue is that a forum signature must not appear unreasonably large.
So as a rough guide, if the size of a signature is beginning to reach something like 1 inch/2.5cm in height, you will be approaching a size where a moderator may well ask you to change it as it will be deemed as too large, and not appropriate.
The signature feature itself cuts off after 3/4 lines, though I must admit it's rare to see people not use the feature nowadays.
As of 2015 we still could add signatures into our posts (quote below) but as to whether that would still be the case I'm not sure - it would be worth asking on Forum Help for clarification.

I spoke to Jon in DM on Twitter, and thankfully we can still place our signatures in our posts as usual so we don't need to use the signature feature.
