I've just gotten a ruler out and measured that an inch is around 5-6 lines, depending on which characters are used.

What about for a signature like this, Ruby?
I sometimes like to use lines to help to show where the signature starts and end.
Of course, it's only simple, but I see what you mean with a signature such as your own.
