Kill Bill? I've heard of that movie, and it's one of the movies that I hate just from the ads.

Please never liken my stories to a movie. Call me crazy, or sensitive, but that has killed any desire that I had to write on this story. God.

I'm sorry if this hurts your feelings.

No emotion crossed his face, evidently that was what he had expected her to say.

"Where's Brant?" she demanded, rage sweeping over her like a wave.

"He is with my other servants. He is a good fighter, and I was sorry to have to blank him. I had to though, else I would have been forced to kill him."

"Why did you kidnap him?"

His green eyes narrowed in anger, but he didn't say anything. There was complete silence for a few seconds. Kerr looked up and down Sukrae, Teegan, and Taena, trying to figure out who was most dangerous, and what their various attacks were.

Each one readied themself for the inevitable fight: Taena and Teegan loosening their daggers in their sheaths, Sukrae loosening his dual swords, and Kerr checking his wide-bladed shield-sword.

The three broke apart, advancing upon Kerr from different directions. Just as Teegan raised her staff, ready to throw a spell, the block began to glow again. This time it glowed with more of a golden light, and the three kept an eye on it while staying in their positions.

Just as Kerr had come earlier, a woman appeared. Her bright golden robes matched her hair, and she held a slender staff of plain wood. She wore a silver belt, from which hung a sturdy dagger. She had a pretty face and light grey eyes, and her skin was tan. Like Kerr, her only jewelry was a gold band which encircled her left ring finger.

She slid off the rock, and took two steps foward. "Who're these people?" she asked Kerr, looking worried.

He ran to her side, speaking urgently. "I'm staying," she said firmly, looking at the three. "We can take them."

"Who is this?" Taena demanded.

The woman spoke, her voice soft, but carrying an air of determination. "My name is Vata, and this is my husband."

The three looked at each other, then back at the couple.

Suddenly a whirling ball of yellow shot at Kerr, coming from Teegan. He evaded it, and it hit the wall, showering sand everywhere.

Vata lifted her staff, and a bolt of red smashed from the sky, nearly splitting Teegan apart. She shot back a grey ball, which, when it hit the ground, transformed into a shaggy-haired wolf. Vata whipped out her dagger, and **** its throat before it could do anything.

Meanwhile, Sukrae was fighting Kerr. They stood ten feet from each other, casting spells that should have been deadly, but which they both managed to avoid most of the time. However, Sukrae's arm was cut and bleeding, and Kerr's staff had a burned patch at the bottom. Each was aware that one would not survive this encounter, and each was trying desperately for it not to be them.

The women, ducking and dodging, were getting closer to the men, and nobody seemed to have the edge.

Then Taena drew her dagger, unused in this battle, and flung it.

Time seemed to slow. The dagger clove through the air, its aim straight and true. It was directed at Vata's heart, and she stood, paralyzed.

At the last moment there was a flurry of action, and then the sickening sound of the dagger hitting flesh. Vata still stood, a horrified look on her face, blood flowing on the ground.

But not her blood.

Kerr lay in the dirt, the dagger sunk in his chest, exactly where it had hit him when he had stepped in front of his wife to take the blow.

She fell to her knees beside him, taking his head on her lap; his hand in hers.

Sukrae, Teegan, and Taena, knowing a tender moment when they saw one, retreated to the other side of the cavern.

"I love you," said Kerr, looking up, his eyes already growing dim.

"I know. I love you too."

"Tell the kids I love them, when they come."

"I will," whispered Vata, tears falling on his face.

His hand fell, and life's spark faded from his eyes.

Vata rose, anger** swiping away her tears. She was in danger here, and so she ran, carrying her husband, and vanished into a door that opened for her at the cave's end.

The three gave chase, skidding under the door as it closed.

----

Kerr's body was heavy across her shoulders, and his staff, clutched in her hand, bumped on the floor as she ran. Down the tunnels she ran, making for the fortress.

Her only thoughts were of escape, revenge would come later. Now she had to stay alive, more for her unborn children's sake than for her own.

She burst through the door that led to the fort. Kinatu would come with her, the rest would stay. She knew that with Kerr's death, the slaves would have regained their own mind. Right now they would be . . . she heard it, the steady banging as they attempted to force the dungeon door, which was where they were kept when no work was to be found for them. The few out working would be dangerous; she would have to avoid them.

The horses! They must be taken, at least K*kar, her favorite. She reached the stables, laying her husband's body in a cart. Now to find her servant, Kinatu, and escape the soon-to-be ruins of her home.

----

It was almost full dark in the tunnel, only a little light coming from the glowing wall torches.

Teegan, Taena, and Sukrae walked along slowly, each with a hand on the rough stone wall, feeling the way with their feet. "Well," said Teegan finally, "what do we do now?"

"Find Brant," Taena answered. With Kerr's death, her mission was almost accomplished, and hopefully she would see Brant soon, too.

Sukrae was silent, thinking about the battle. He had thought of Kerr only as an enemy, as a heartless and utterly selfish person who cared for none but himself. Now he wasn't sure what to think.

Would he have been able to step into the path of a flying dagger, knowing that death would follow, yet doing it without hesitation?

He could see that Teegan was thinking the same thing, her face thoughtful in the dim light.

He reached for her fingers, squeezing them softly. She squeezed back, and for the rest of the walk, they stayed connected.

Soon they came to the door. Taena opened it, readying a spell because her dagger was still stuck in Kerr, wherever he was. She didn't need it though, nobody was around as they came up a flight of stairs and into a small stone shed. Sukrae opened the shed door, a spell at the ready.

It opened into a big courtyard, with stone flags and a large statue of a lion in the middle.

At the far end there seemed to be a fight, armed guards against people, mostly men, with clubs and sticks. There were many more people than guards, but they weren't as well trained, and it looked more like a riot than a battle.

"What do we do?" Sukrae asked, surveying the struggle.

"I'm not sure," said Teegan, "who's good and who's bad?"

"I would guess," said Taena, "that the guards are Kerr's people. But I don't know who the others are. A slave revolt, perhaps?"

Just then, a man sprang into the courtyard from a nearby door, carrying a stick. He evidently meant to go join the conflict, but Teegan grabbed his arm. "What are you doing?" she asked him, dagger in hand.

"Yous be workin' for Kerr?" the man asked, quite calmly.

"No.”

"Well, then, we all be slaves, or used to be, ya know. You see, we've been here fer quites the while, working 'n all, but suddenly 'round fifteen minutes ago terday, we got our minds back."

"Got your minds back?"

"Ye. Ya sees, we had a strange thing 'appen. We all lost* our memories when we came here, ya know? But we all regained 'em today. So we figured that we might as well break out, ya know? Get back to our homes 'n everything."

"Alright then. Thanks."

Teegan released him, and he dashed off towards the fight. "Well then," she said. "At least we know what's happening."

"Yes. Let's go fight before they kill too many **-slaves."

Sukrae was staring at the fight. "Look," he said, pointing, "what's that?"

There was a figure among the battle. It was taller than the others in the struggle, and darker. From the distance they were at it was impossible to tell what side it was fighting on, but it looked like it was fighting well.

However, the three's attention was turned away from it suddenly, by the arrival of ten more guards, pouring out of a grey stone building next to them.

There were yells from the fighting guards, and also from the ex-slaves, seeing their chances of escape slip away. The dark figure turned, seemed to hesitate, then charged.

The three looked at each other, then at the dark figure, which was bounding towards the guards. As it neared, it was revealed as a wolf, strangely humanlike in shape, but taller than any human and with a wolven face, blood staining its teeth and claws. A werewolf.

Reaching the guards, it tore into them, biting through armor and mangling flesh. Sukrae, Teegan, and Taena helped it, casting various spells at the fort defenders. Soon the guards all lay dead, armor and weapons strewn across the ground. The werewolf turned to the three, white fangs dripping blood. Slowly it advanced, wild yellow eyes focused on Taena.

It broke into a trot, and Teegan, ignoring the rule when dealing with wild creatures, turned and ran. Sukrae went after her, drawing his swords so as to protect her if the monster attacked.

Taena ran too . . . but not away.
