Teegan, Taena, and Sukrae ended up staying at Traer's for a month. While the twins ajusted to their new magical powers,
Traer was able to heal Sukrae's arm and teach him some new spells. Traer was able to tell them about where Kerr's fortress was, and Nator developed a minor crush on Taena.
Finally, they were ready to go, with each of them carrying a pack of dried meat and fruit, plus a water skin apiece. Traer gave them the best directions that he could, and they started off, with Nator waving goodbye to Taena.
Teegan still carried her dagger, still wore her armor, and Taena still had the teed-off look on her face. The only diffrence from that day when they first walked up to Kerr's door, was that Sukrae was there with them. Sukrae, the mage who helped them, the injured person who slowed them, the one who fell in love with one of them, the one that Taena didn't want to come, was now a firm member of the group.
--
It was a nice day--as nice as a day in the wilderness can be, anyway--and even after walking all day, the three felt pretty optimistic about finishing their quest.
Sukrae could now use both arms, Taena wasn't dead anymore, and Teegan had recovered completely from her fight with the demon.
Right now they all felt pretty chipper, and Sukrae was whistling to annoy Teegan. They walked for a short period in silence--except for the whistling, until Teegan couldn't take it anymore.
"Sukrae!" She said, "Shut up!"
Sukrae grinned, sticking his tongue out at Teegan. Then a small rock jumped from the ground, hitting him in the shin. "Ow!" He said, "What the....."
Teegan smiled smugly, using her powers to do the same with another rock. Sukrae gave her a look, then yelped as yet another rock jumped at him. "I surrender!" He said, waving a waterskin, "No more rocks!"
"Are you sorry for annoying me?" asked Teegan sweetly, letting a fourth rock hover at shin height.
"Very sorry."
