So anyway, the other week Venom mentioned the lack of story competitions, quote here:

No Halloween story contest around here? Huh. :(

And it got me thinking that maybe we should have a story contest. Nothing too serious or enterprising considering it'd be the first story contest this forum has seen for a while, as far as I can recall. Would there be any interest in a Christmas Story Contest? I've been asking around and there might be a way that we could get a JMod to endorse such an event. Nothing's set in stone currently, but I thought that it would be nice to get regular contests running on here again.

What does everybody else think?

If there's enough interest I'll make a planning thread, (as this is the most efficient way to congregate all suggestions/ideas if a JMod was to become involved,) for us to post on.

I just created a map for a world I may base future fantasy RPs in.

I only wish there was to a way to share this map, to make things easier when I base future RPs in this world.

I'll try to describe it now though:

First off, I'm going to say that I've dropped the trend of reusing country names, at least for the most part. The only name I carried over from previous threads is Gara.

Anyways, the first continent is rather tall, its width being about half its height. The north is mostly dense forest, home to tribal elves. Two rivers run through the continent, connecting to the ocean. Along these rivers are fertile plains and grasslands, where two dozen or so city states have popped up.

Between the two rivers, in the center of the continent, are the ruins of a long destroyed and forgotten empire. The entire place is surrounded by a massive wall with no way to get through except somehow breaking it down or climbing it. Inside, the land is barren - it doesn't seem as though anything is capable of growing or living there. People who step inside feel as though their very soul is being drained, and age rapidly - for every ten minutes or so you spend there, you age by approximately one year. But this doesn't just apply to living things - metal rusts almost immediately, wood rots away, corpses decompose within seconds.

The natural conclusion is that the land was somehow cursed and that time passes faster there, the original inhabitants having long since aged to dust.

Anyways, the second continent is much more round, and is connected to the first continent via a landbridge. This landbridge is useless for trade and travel however, as all it does it take you from the unwelcoming Elven Forest to the vast and inhospitable Yoran Desert.

If you go east through the Yoran Desert, you find the dwarven kingdom of Dwarfheim in the northeast, and the Kingdom of Yorandis in the southeast. Yorandis is mostly desert, and occupied by humans - which continent the humans originated from is a hotly debated issue. Nestled between Yorandis and Dwarfheim is Orlossis, the land of the Orcs, comprised of several hostile and highly militaristic orcis* tribes. Okay, I lied, I carried Orlossis over too.

South of the second continent is the Drow Empire, which consists of one large crescent shaped island surrounded by several smaller ones. Most of the smaller islands are tropical, and the Drows hold a monopoly on bananas, sugar, and oranges.
