There was indeed - it's a part of the restless ghost quest.

Yes, there was a skeleton that attacks you in the Wizard's Tower during The Restless Ghost quest, when you try to pick up the skull in the WT basement,

Hunh, seems like the quest was updated to something else, I had no idea.

Ha, well, Two-two was deliberately a silly character. I never expected the RP to jump this far. Though, she is a fun character to work with. She's my reincarnation of Annie's Annies, essentially.

The update to Restless Ghost is less exotic than you think.

The skull is now behind a rock in the Lumbridge Swamp (not that far of a walk from the cemetary).
A skeleton still pops out when you take the skull. (likely the undead mage who killed the farmer in the first place). But you don't have to fight it.

Besides, not much sense for the Wizard's at the tower to keep the skull of some nameless farmer.

Especially since the Wizard Tower is actually the 2nd Wizard Tower.
And the RS3 Wizard Tower is built on the ruins of the original tower.
AND!!! The RS3 Wizard Tower's "basement" is the cavernous ruins. That no one other than a certain wizard (and later the player) has managed to access in decades.

So ....... now it's just behind a muddy rock.
