A few months late, but this looks totally awesome:

About damn time the guys from Dark Souls are gonna give us a samurai game. I won't preorder it though, as my computer surely won't be able to handle the game, it's rather expensive, and I see Activision in it. But still, it looks really cool. I wonder if there will be some Europeans in it, as there were Portuguese, Spaniards and Dutch in and around Japan in the Sengoku Jidai period.

How are everyone's roleplay reserves coming along? Things seem to have died down again, but as usual, I am still around. However, this is the month everyone goes back to school, so maybe it's just that.

But, I was thinking of a few potentially useful mechanics for our RPing, which may spark life here.

1. Bio characters with simpler, or single, purpose. For example, a user could create a merchant character, who appears here and there to barter, sell or buy things. The merchant would then bugger off, and may come back at a later time.
Other ideas could be bios whose sole purpose is to be a solution to a problem, is a hidden antagonist/twist villain, someone who causes a change in environment, or something who undergoes a change.

2. Competition instead of difficulty or chance-based failure/success: a roleplay or situation can have only one winner.

3. Stronger storytelling and story themes. Could intertwine with existing bios, NPCs, environments, or lore, allowing users to add to the world.

4. Predetermined character destinies: the GM could create certain bios for certain situations, which may be randomly selected or have a chance at appearing, or appear only once or when called upon, and such characters could change the course of the story or be a hidden threat, or a counter to another character.

The one thing that stops me from posting a thread is the lack of a coherent plot. I mean, this hasn’t stopped people from writing threads in the past, but…

I kind of like the idea of stronger storytelling themes and predetermined character destinies – it would be nice change to skip all the meet-and-greet and simply assume everyone knows each other in some way. The problem is whether anyone could create a fixed scenario that would appeal to everyone.

That being said, I guess we all have our favourite character stereotypes…

Azi stars as the trigger-happy drunkard uncle you shoo away from public family gatherings.
Annie stars as Annie Wells.
Inferi stars as the murderously hot killer robot chick.
George stars as the gritty merc or the smoking ass.
Lasky stars as the dwarf and/or snarky but extremely skilled everyman.

This has happened once.

Maybe twice.

EDIT: I filled up 3 posts with that nonsense? Yikes.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Chaos was a character from a loooong time ago, and I feel like I bring her up as a joke more than anything else. Like a lot (most) of my characters, she needs both the right setting and right plot situation to have the desired effect, and I really doubt it'll be able to happen ever on here. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
