Why are players so dead set on owning everything? I mean, back in my day, when we wanted a farm, we'd just show up and take the land from a hapless but presumably wealthy weed farmer.

to be fair, you don't actually "own" it.
A little old lady who has gotten a little too old can't run the farm herself anymore.
so she effectively leases out animal pens to you to grow the animals. she takes a cut of the profits on animals you sell, or has better access to the animal market and you sell her what you raise, and she resells it.

RuneScape players have always been narcissistic, and much, much more ten years ago.
Nowadays, the atheist community online created a renaissance of shaming and outsmarting everyone they disagree with, which is the kind of behaviour you see in narcissists. This has jumped into religious factions as well, so there's lots of mimicries done by Christians and pagans, for example. Lots of people just want to be viewed as better than everyone else.
Not that I mean to sound like I'm trash-talking, it's just an observation based on my personal life and experiences. But, there's no cure for sociopathy, and I could spend the rest of my life complaining, but I'd rather create a life for myself. Life is too short for bullshit.
No.
It's about cute baby animals and additional XP methods for Farming that aren't completely tied to waiting ~ 2 hours for herbs to grow or 12-16 hours for a tree to grow.
