On a scale of 1 to over 9000, how "normal" should abilities be? At the moment, I'm imagining something like a Hopes Peak University or maybe the Whateley Universe - but it's kind of ambiguous since the example we're given, super hulk strength, has many supernatural and natural causes.

It's definitely not as normal as Hope's Peak. It's literally superpowers/paranormal powers/magic, which is not known to most of society, of course.

According to Wikipedia, they could move "about 700 pounds (320 kg) on a good day, with the wind at his back".
I'd actually be inclined to believe this, since smaller animals tend to be proportionally stronger since they don’t have to worry about collapsing under their own weight.
The more you know, huh?
Hunh, I... did not know that. Strong little guys. But ya, the more you know!
What the hell is with that squirrel voice in that Akon vid?

I will join eventually. I just haven't been feeling particularly motivated to write anything just yet.
You don’t have to be motivated to write anything, though. I never feel motivated to write anything, I just do it. However, if you mean you feel less energetic, try going to bed an hour sooner. Also, you can buy bulk raisins cheaply; up here in British Columbia, Canada, I can buy dried raisins, currants, cranberries, dates, and sunflowers seeds, and get a rather big bag for under five dollars each. This is very energizing snack-food.
Hello again, George, I will have to check out your new RP soon.
I am going to make someone that is pale, drinks blood from people because they like the taste, and violently burns in the sunlight, and whose ability makes them unable to age and sparkle in the sun, even though they never do because they burn so badly. Oh, and because of their ability, they're several hundred years old but still look like your typical person of whatever age they should be.
That's acceptable, right?
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
