I found Shakespeare's language kind of grandiose and fun, even if it wasn't wholly comprehensible to the modern ear. Personally, I think Shakespear's works are best viewed in their intended medium - performance, not writing.

Exactly. The problem is, people are so obsessed with them that they force kids to read them in school like you would a normal book, which not only loses a lot of the meaning - due to the inability to act out the scenes - it makes a lot of people - like me - dislike something that they might not have had it been presented in the proper manner.

I wholeheartedly agree with that last sentiment. Unfortunately, for a Critical Reading class, I need to look at the writing and not just a performance of it. I am allowed to consider a performance (especially for this piece, where several jokes stem from the sex and gender of one of the characters, in that time period where it would have been different), but mostly I am analyzing the writing.

Edit: To add to what Inferi said, even when people have us read his works "as a play" (i.e. one person reads one specific character's lines in class), we still lose so much because we can't actually physically act anything out and the lines are dead because most people read in monotone.
I just play FFXIV at this point. DC: Crystal

Why are we here?

It’s one of life’s great mysteries isn't it? Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really a God watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don’t know, man, but it keeps me up at night.
