Hello kids.

It turns out I may indeed have a thread for this place. We'll see if it actually happens.

What I've got in mind is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi "mission" thread. The premise is that civilization on Earth has been largely destroyed by biological and nuclear war. What's left is a crumbled wasteland inhabited by horribly mutated animals and humans. Meanwhile, advanced civilization has fled to space, where a mostly unaffected population attempts to survive across several orbiting stations.

Most governments have dissolved or become irrelevant, and new factions have taken their place. Our angle would begin on a massive network of space stations which is overpopulated and impoverished. We would play as new recruits for the local military, taking missions to Earth's surface to secure supplies and other important things.

The thread its self is built heavily around combat and character progression, which would both follow loose systems. There are stat sheets, leveling, a basic economy, and a few very basic guidelines to regulate combat. So we're talking somewhat of a hybrid between forum and tabletop, but hopefully playing to the strengths of both without drawbacks.

Sounds something really nice, fast paced, old-school type combat. I'm up for anything new or let's say refreshing (fits better). And trust me, I've played the forum-tabletop hybrid many years ago on funorb and it worked very well. Only drawback was the players' own input or willingness to roleplay and game.

If you need any thoughts on system, I'd be glad to help. Other than that I'm game.

You're older than me, though.

Anyways, it's pretty much a rework of an old idea I had. George knows the one.

Basically the system is there to keep things interesting, but also controlled. It's meant to be noninvasive and shouldn't slow things down any. It's built on a twelve stat system, which is then refined into a few important variables which determine what you can and can't do at any given moment in a fight. So for example if your agility is 2/10, you're obviously not landing backflips and combat rolls. The system means that everyone always knows how much action their character is capable of without it having to be second-guessed or made to change.

It also makes a visible metric for how the characters advance over time, which I find more exciting than vague estimates and such. On top of that, there's an intensive list of items and weapons and possibly abilities. In general, the themes and setting of the thread will enable almost any form of fighting to be used, including something akin to magic.

So yeah.

The only hard part is filling out the info and shit. Lots of info. Lots of shit. But after the thread is made it would be pretty easy to run. It's also pretty nifty that we can use images now, cause that'll make it a lot easier to layout certain things.
