What if our characters had been sucked through the portal, but little miss plot point ran out of mana and couldn't fully materialise or see our half-formed characters appear?

Notfishing, you can intro your char on Koray. Maybe after we were teleported away, you came through the portal after Azi guy and the Knights? So you wouldn't see anyone but could travel towards their direction. Just an idea.

I'll do a time skip on the fallen light. And I'll post on Koray after the other people do their intro.
