Hey, I just thought of something. There is a lack of space and horror in role-plays, so I was thinking of a role-play set on.... a space ship, but having horror themes, somewhat like Dead Space (the video game, not the movie) or Ridley Scott's ALIEN. Users are various personnel, such as a worker, janitor, electrician, welder, space marine, security guard (because of space pirates), or what have you. Eventually, they will stumble upon something alien, and so begins the hunt.

We already have a lot of former-world role-plays, so I think more of them isn't necessarily exciting anymore. Anyone else have any thoughts on outer space horror?

Horror is a difficult aesthetic to strike when you have multiple people writing in different styles. Horror is about building the correct atmosphere but if you have, say, five roleplayers, then you're only 20% of that contribution and the other roleplayers might not be as adept as emulating the style. Personally I've never seen it done well, but take that with a pinch of salt as I'm not inclined towards horror in the first place. Hags be hagglin', gods be god damn crazy, it's all happening ogre at Into The Fire

You're right Angel, horror is sensitive and difficult, but I think it needs to be attempted anyways. Not saying I'm gonna make a role-play that'll trigger a new wave of horror, BUT, it is something different, a new flavor. I feel that if I put as much effort into descriptions in my role-plays as I do in my stories, I can try to form a decent, scary-like environment. Of course, this doesn't mean that users will just be hapless victims going "z0mg monsta liek run or hied awaiiii", but just to try to make something a little creepy, with a theme of survival, cleverness, and trickery, to fool whatever monster awaits. I'll see what I can do.

The beast-samurai is neither an enemy or friend; he potentially attacks anything, he is an embodiment of rage and hate. I described him attacking Atman a few times. I also took the liberty of spiritually connecting the Oni to the samurai attacking Shalid.

"Terror has its degrees of freshness. The more intense the fear, the more the other emotions die. The terror, in its truest state, isn't a static state, but rather, a dynamic one. It is the moment when shining hope turns into utter despair."
~ Caster, Fate Zero

From this perspective, I think it would be... somewhat difficult to create a horror themed roleplay. O_o It would be interesting to see though!

What about a relic hunter type role play. Will have adventure, take part in modern time. Two groups can hunt for artifacts, one to keep it safe, the other to use it for their own gain or something. Kind of like the librarian.

Sorry I'm at a block for the captured souls idea....

Ah, that makes sense. I will give some descriptions and clues to Chthonian demons and the civilisations they build. The way I see it demons generally want to grow. In this case, the Chthonians continually try to evolve as a race, to become better people. Prepare for hell on RuneScape in Naval Cataclysm!
