Ah yes, early colonialism, when colonists and natives alike believed that you had to attack less be attacked, when tribal warfare involved different factions of natives and colonists into alliances and wars, where conquistadors conquered the Americas, the Spaniards destroyed French settlements and massacred the inhabitants, buccaneers killed Spaniards and terrorized villages, the French and English got into a war, English pirates privateers sometimes blockaded American coastal settlements, the fur trade had traders ambushing and killing other traders...

...what a beautiful time it was to be alive! I wanted to make this into an RP, honestly, but it didn't really work.

I believe I once wanted to make something similar at one point.

Set in the colonial era, of course. The premise was going to be that this temple on an island suddenly emitted a strange beam of light into the sky.

Three people would play as captains in the navies of three different countries, who frequently war with each other over control of the seas. They would each come in with a small fleet consisting of a few ships (the amount of ships you're allowed to have would depend on the class, size and quality of each ship), hastily sent to investigate and secure the temple for their country at any cost.

Meanwhile, one player would get to be the natives on the island, who believe it is their sacred duty to defend the temple to their dying breath. And that one day, when the temple emitted a light, strangers would come for it.

The rest of the players would have control of independent ships. Merchants, pirates, privateers, explorers, etc. who are just curious as to what is going on, and have the option of siding with one of the factions if they wish.

Feel like it would have been awesome. Truces and deals being made, then broken. Sailors venturing into the jungle with pistol and sword to fight tribesmen who are armed with spears, bows, and guerilla tactics, only for one of the other factions to launch a surprise naval attack when they are away from their ship. Another faction could feign sympathy for the tribals and then backstab them. Then there could be a pirate watching from a distance and biding his time to take whatever is left.

It would have been great.

Your idea is cool in that each user controls a faction wholly, which is a cool idea.

I always liked the idea of those kinds of roleplays. Unfortunately, they usually die because it's hard to get a central plot driving everyone. In Kingdoms of Karrus for example, I tried to make dealing with the Sorusian Empire the number one priority, but half the players either didn't want to fully commit, or were considering siding with Sorus. Which was fine, if a bit disappointing, but then a lot of people went inactive.

KoK was pretty cool, but ya, too bad it just went limp.

Most guns went off already, and considering that no one was shot, the inaccuracy of early firearms, trees, and the darkness, they only seem to be useful at point-blank range! The prospect of loading multiple shots down a barrel would be cool, but the Aussie who did so had already shot his gun that had multiple bullets, so that's over and done with. Reloading in darkness and smoky conditions is also difficult, but I have not explicitly depicted any colonist shooting at Joric's direction, as most are too preoccupied with yelling at one another.
