I don't know why every 12-year-old in the world dislikes that game's trailer. Marketing and audience-pleasing are important factors in selling a product, but there are no absolutes anywhere. Presumably, that game's trailer, although perhaps marketed well, has not pleased its audience. As I said, what's more important is giving your audience what it wants to see. It doesn't really matter how good or bad your art is, what matters is the marketing and audience-pleasing it creates or leads to.
For example, if a business does not know how to find consumers or customers, it will probably fail. Respectfully, most people do not consider the Twilight books good, it has an often negative reputation, but it was still successful, as it was marketed correctly and pleased its audience. Personally, I don't consider Twilight original or creative, but it doesn't matter, as it was successful nonetheless.
