Inferi, question time.

1. I want to be a guard character. What is the uniform?
2. Are all guards cannon fodder? They went down pretty easily in the introduction.
3. How are the guards recruited, exactly?
4. What weapons do the guards carry?
5. Are you trying to discourage people from being guards by being so vague about them?

6. For subjects, are simple mutations preferred - or can we go crazy (within reason)?

7. Do I have to be a grunt in the guards, or can I have some authority? Like a sergeant or something?

1. Traditional Military, typically customized however the individual prefers. They're more soldiers than guards, although both titles can really be used interchangeably.

2. No, they're not cannon fodder, although most wouldn't be able to stand up to a subject that has a combat-oriented ability and is also good with it. Yes, they went down easily in the intro, but that's due to the fact that Julia was probably the strongest subject in terms of raw power.

3. Most are taken from the actual military. It's one of those secret transfer type of things, where you understand you'll end up working somewhere that essentially doesn't exist and have to do the typical "sign here to say you won't tell anyone on pin of death blah blah blah" type of thing. There may be a few outside ones, but the reasoning for them has to be a lot better.

4. Usually only a sidearm when they're just walking around, although those guarding a specific location are usually more heavily armed. There's an armory with a lot more, but that's reserved for special cases. Most subjects want to be there, after all, and having guards walking around with assault rifles isn't really a great image to give them.

5. Not at all. I'm just bad at making threads.

6. Going crazy within reason sounds like a contradiction to me. Just say what you want and I'll give my judgment.

7. I have no problem with you having some authority. You can't be a project official, obviously, but other than that it should be perfectly fine.

OKAY.

SO.

I was thinking of dishing out that generic hyper regeneration ability we all know and love, mixed in with a little reincarnation for when "nobody could survive that". Incarnations would restart as small children able to read and write, though would possess few memories of their past lives. These "children" could mature into their late teens within one or two years.

BUT, given how we want everything weaponised, it would be boring if we stopped there. During the reincarnation process, the subject's heart physically leaves the body and becomes a Phoenix. Yep, a mythical firechicken. This Phoenix would grow with the incarnate, essentially fighting on behalf of the character.

... by now you're wondering how the character could survive without a heart? Cause. Raisins.

I'm still working on condensing it, but that's more or less the generic idea. Would it fit, and if not, what kind of mutations are you looking for?

The hyper-rege* ability is fine; in fact, someone already has that (although I'm not telling you who). However, the reincarnation I don't think I can go with. I love the idea - it's actually one of the cooler reincarnation abilities I've seen in a long while - but I don't want to get that far into the ridiculousness realm in terms of powers. It's supposed to be somewhat realistic...yeah, I know, it's not anyways, but I feel as though that's stretching the bounds of the setting just a little too far.

Sorry.

There's no age limit, Annie, but if you're talking subjects or guards there needs to be a good reason why someone would be super young or super old. Doctors can't be too young, but they certainly can still be effective while old.
