Something flashy to open with…

This thread was created to showcase my collection of short stories that have been written for various contests over the years. This is a small glimpse into the mind of an actual young woman who plays Runescape and enjoys the game!

I have a story featured in the Hall of Fame, I have won a contest or two on The Word and other story threads, I taught Romance for a guild or two.

I have left the stories for the most part untouched, I wanted you to be able to read them as they were for the contest they were entered in.

Please read and enjoy!

Feliz :P

~ Unrequited Love ~

* My first RS story written sometime in 2006 *

The silence was sweet in comparison to the deafening roar of the battle. “The battle, could it be over or is this the after life? Leela ruminated.

“ Oh pain…” The thought was overwhelming, blessed blackness once again took over.

A soft swirl of mist sent chills down Leela’s neck; the only bit of flesh exposed through her armor. As her mind neared consciousness again. “ Cold…mind numbing cold.” The only sensation Leela could register was cold.

Then the metallic taste of blood and earth penetrated her senses. “Oh thirst…I am so thirsty. Pain…and weakness why can*t I move? Silence…its so quiet…maybe this is a dream?” A dreamer, that was never a term used to describe her.

“Leela the brave, the hunter, the warrior…the bard’s would compose songs about the battles fought.” All thought’s stopped.

Leela felt the presence of someone dear to her near. It was time to open her eyes and see what she could only hope to be true. Slowly her eyes fluttered open. As she peered out from behind her eyelashes, it was dusk. All that could be seen in the dim light were shadows in the mist, the feeling was lost in her confusion.

Leela was on the battlefield, there were bodies from the massacre scattered every where, lain in heaps. She could now smell the rotting flesh. “Could she be in the field of death? Where was her hero’s burial? How many were left here dead or dieing? Who had won the fray?” These were the thoughts that circled her mind.

With her head pressed into the dirt it was difficult to see. Leela tried to move to get a better view. She would have to move soon, before they came back to cleanse the field of battle. The sensation came back the feeling of someone dear. With renewed vigor she tried again to rise up out of the carnage; her limbs and muscles would not cooperate with her mind. She lay there prone, and hoped that whomever the dear one was would sense her as well.

When she saw whom she had hoped to see, he seemed taller. As he moved with purpose and stealth towards her, in that moment of weakness. With his white hair blowing in the soft breeze, he looked around as if confused. She saw his handsome profile in contrast to the blackened sky. Her heart beating harder as he moved closer to her. He had approached her prone figure and gazed with longing into her hazel eyes. She had returned his gaze and tried to penetrate his thoughts with her stare because she could not seem to speak.

Leela had noticed the familiar spark in his beautiful green eyes. “Could he still love her after all the time he had been gone?” She wondered.

Slowly he moved closer to her. He reached out to touch her and unexpectedly she heard his voice in the silence. “Oh dear, you are dead.” Were his words.

His fluffy paw came down to rest upon her cold lifeless hand. He chuckled as he turned and twitched his tail in the breeze, “Evil Bob said we would one day rule Runescape, and now that my master is dead I am truly free.” He turned and looked at her again, “I wonder if you have a seasoned sardine?”

Incredulous over the cat's selfish uncaring ness Leela let out her last life’s breath and floated off into oblivion.

~ Leela Survives ~

* This was a continuum of the above written June 10, 2008 *

Her body laid out. Leela had been in a dream like state, in a splendid chamber. The bed hangings were made of silk so fine she could see through them, like a thin wispy mist.

“How could this be after the chaos I had in my most recent memories?” Leela thought to herself.

Yet, she felt the soft cushions beneath her it was difficult for her to grasp the idea that she was no longer in danger. “Wait, I can see columns with the brightest green lotus leaves I have ever seen, and is that the scent of lavender? I have never been in a room so resplendent, where am I?” The soft aroma enveloped her senses as she lay there pondering her surroundings.

“This could not be the after life. I still feel pain and weakness, but I no longer feel the mind numbing cold nor taste the metallic blood on my lips.* She lay there silent and still , but the thoughts continued to bombard her hazy mind.

“Oh, the pounding in my head! What is it, deep baritones coming from beyond, a voice…a man’s voice.” Realization penetrated her dreamless sleep.

“Has she woken from her slumber?” The man’s voice intoned.

“No, my lord, but she cry’s out in her sleep.” A softer masculine voice responded.

“You have done well, that will be all.” The deeper voice said in dismissal.

“I feel as if I were made of stone. I can do naught but glance around.” Were Leela’s fleeting thoughts.

A God like figure appeared in the doorway. He was tall and lean, she had never seen a more handsome man. “Could this be my savior from the field of death?” She wondered.

With a stealth and purposeful cadence he strode to her bedside. ”Leela? Leela, can you hear me?” He asked.

“Who could this man be who knows my name? How did I get here?” So many questions swam in her head, unanswered questions, yet the ability to ask was still beyond her reach.

She could only feel the breeze as it washed over her skin, and smell the sweet lavender, and see the bold colors in the room. She had felt as if it was the first time for all of those sensations.

“Leela, do not try to do more than you can” He whispered. “I was forced to seek help from the most powerful wizard in Ardougne.” As he lowered himself to sit beside her upon the bed, he swallowed hard, and continued “His magic was strong but even he could not be sure you would survive.”

Leela could feel his hands softly caressing her face hair before he gathered into his warm embrace. “Leela my warrior, my Goddess, my love.” He sobbed into her hair.

“Who is this man?” She desperately tried to remember, but could only respond to her senses. The warmth of his body, the strength of his embrace, the feeling in his voice…“I am safe” she decided before drifting off to sleep again.

~ Bleeding Love ~

*Contest Entry October 2008*

In the cold swirling mist of predawn, a lone figure stood on the planks of the jostling Lander. Her flowing white blonde hair transformed to transparent strands of floss as the mist crystallized it into icy shards hanging around her delicate face.

She swayed with the motion of the boat that would soon be the bass of her tragic love song. She had been here before. Her senses overwhelmed by the slapping of the ocean on the walls about her, the constant beat of her heart thudding hard in anticipation, and the death knell of the voices emanating from the crawling darkness before her. She tried not to listen but the voices were loud and carried across the waters. The voices, the dark, the icy sea, all filled her with doubt that she would be in time to save him, but fearlessly she faced what would come.

She had tried to stay away but something had happened between them on her first sojourn to the island. No one understood her egocentric need to be here with him. She had tried to forget the rush of chivalrous feelings that over took her every time she made this trek. She had left something of herself here and until she found it she would return even if everyone thought she was crazy.

As the Lander drew closer to shore conflict ran circles in her mind. Her friends on the mainland and the comradery they shared called to her. But she yearned for the opportunity just one more time to be in his embrace and be his protector. She thought she had closed that chapter in her life for good yet here she stood yet again – ready to spill blood or give her life for just one more chance at love.

~ Crad's Contest Entry November 2008 round 2 or 3~

Sir Nicolas in life, a brave, strong member of the white knights. As a bodiless soul he had no need for names, comrades, or loyalty. Sent by his King to protect the people of Varrock from the rogues that plagued this untamed northern land. On his first team mission out in the wild, they were ambushed by a clan. Two of their team managed to escape. Three treasonously bargained for freedom, leaving their armor, valuables and food at the feet of their attackers, they walked back to Varrock. Sir Nicolas and another knight were the only two to make a stand against the clan, they were killed mercilessly. The clan attacked them singly until they were weak, out of food, and almost dead. Then the clan leader struck the final blow killing both knights, letting his clan members pillage the corpses. The broken bodies were left in a heap, no one even bothered to bury or bless the bones.

When Sir Nicolas realized he was in this purgatory, he waited for a search party to at least cleanse his soul from the land. Years passed. Embittered by the lack of fidelity shown by his men, his King, and his family, Nicolas began a bloodbath to rid himself of his consuming feelings of anger and jealousy.

Anyone who dared set foot within his reach was tortured and killed with the same ruthlessness shown him by that clan. As he wandered his realm, he could feel the presence of other tortured souls, he could see that they acted as he did. He knew only that all of them acted without humanity.

One day Sir Nicolas felt a presence of lightness. It was a feeling he vaguely remembered, like an addiction. He was drawn nearer and could sense that others were drawn to it as well. As all the revenants drew near they formed a circle around a slight being with an aura of goodness, hope, and love.

The most powerful, Sir Nicolas approached. "Who are you and what do you seek? Being."
