Eyes met pain as light touched them for the first time in a week. A groan left the bed to wake up the girl snoozing next to it. After a week long recovery, the boy had finally woken up again.
"Tash!" Magenta leapt to his bedside with an ecstatic smile across her face. "You're awake! I almost thought you'd be out for a month or even longer!"
Tash rubbed his hands over his eyes to wipe away the dreary feeling in them. He looked about the room with a confused face. Accompanying him in the room was only a rug, a bed, and a dresser, as well as Magenta to his right atop a wooden chair. "What happened? Where am I?" He pressed his mind to think back to the last thing he could remember prior to passing out. "Tash! Where is he? What'd he do?" He paused then looked over his hands and let his view proceed up his arms and the rest of his body. "Why am I still alive? I didn't beat him, did I?"
Magenta stared at the ground. "I'm not exactly sure what all happened between you two, but when I found you, you were laying unconscious in someone's yard. There was another dead man there with you, but he didn't look like Tash."
"No, he wasn't. That was the murderer I was sent to take care of." Tash sighed. "I did fight Tash though, I'm sure of it." He threw the blankets on top of him aside. "I need to go finish the job." His legs sent a jolt of pain as he swung them to the edge of the bed and slid off. Magenta could see that he still had not fully recovered.
"It's pointless. You're still injured. There's no way you'll be able to defeat him in your state." The stubborn boy showed no sign of stopping as he took another painful step forward. "We're all the way out in Hemenster! You can hardly walk to the door, let alone all the way back to Ardougne!" He cringed again with a third step. "Tash..." Magenta's eyes began to tear up. "Please, just stay here. He gave you another chance. Don't go wasting it so foolishly."

Tash ceased his attempt at walking and let his head sulk. "That's the second time he left me alive. I can't wait another seven years before fighting him again." He clenched his fist as tears of his own began to form.
"So that's how it is then?" A voice familiar to Tash spoke as an additional person waltzed into the room. "You've been taking up missions like these to broaden your own magical abilities while trying to find Ardougne's current Head of Rune Research."
Tash lifted his head to peer at the doorway. "Rich? How did you find me all the way out here?"
The man walked further into the room. "You didn't return the following day. So I decided to visit Ardougne to check around for you, then someone told me that man I sent you to find had been taken care of. Eventually I got news of where you ended up afterwards, and here I am."
Magenta brushed away her tears. "He showed up a couple days ago and claimed to be a friend of yours. While you were sleeping I filled him in on our past, or rather, your own past, from what you told me anyways."
"That statement about your sword after our first meeting makes more sense now too." Rich walked closer to Tash. "You should've told me you were looking for this guy, I'm sure I could've scrounged up some information on him. But, then again, it only took you a few days after meeting me to find him anyway." He laughed.
Tash sat back down on the bed. "For the time being, I'm not strong enough to take him down." Magenta let out a sigh of relief from Tash's words. "Rich, give me another mission, something challenging." The girl's sigh was quickly dragged back in.

"Are you crazy? You almost just get yourself killed, and now you want to go back out into combat?" Magenta's tone was exasperated. "Rich, please, find it in your heart to not let him go." The older man looked from the girl to the boy gazing back at him.
"Let me look through my stash. You can wait a day and then I'll give a new mission to you," Rich said as Magenta felt slightly better that he would at least wait a day.
Tash nodded then slunk his head. With the promise of a new journey the following day, he lifted his legs back onto the mattress and laid down. Magenta smiled at his compliance then thanked Rich as he left the room. The girl walked over to the boy as he closed his eyes to try and get more sleep and sat back down in the chair next to him.
"This isn't quite as comfortable as the last bed I remember sleeping in," commented Tash.
"It's because I'm not in it with you," replied Magenta causing them both to let out a laugh. The sound died hastily and Tash was escorted back into the world of slumber. As she watched him sleep, Magenta leaned her head over onto the edge of the bed and dozed off beside him.
