×Chapter 28×
×Demon Onslaught×
Adam, Rachel, and John sprinted full speed for the center of town, running side by side their weapons at the ready. They stopped when they reached the water fountain at the center of the city. Adam tapped a man on the shoulder to get his attention, “What’s going on?”
“At the North Wall of the city, everyone says something is going on, follow the crowd, you’ll get there,” the man wheezed every word before hurriedly running off towards the West Gate of the city.
Everyone around them was running towards the East or West Gate, probably to get on top of the North Wall. Adam grabbed John and Rachel by the wrist and led them off towards the West Gate as fast as his legs would carry him. After a short distance Adam released John and Rachel from his grip and allowed them to follow him on their own. He had to see what was happening at the north wall to city. The bell continued to ring, echoing throughout the now empty streets of the city as everyone rushed atop the wall that looked out into The Wilderness.
Having reached the stairs next to the West Gate Adam, Rachel, and John leaped up them two at a time, climbing to the top of the monumental city walls. They all emerged on the top of the wall; it seemed everyone in the city was leaning against the battlements, staring north, into The Wilderness. Adam pushed and shoved people out of his way to get to the front of the crowd so he could see what was out there, Rachel and John trailed in his wake among the sea of people.

Adam heard what it was before he saw it. A loud boom echoed up to all the people on the wall. Perhaps it was the sound of giant footsteps. Boom, boom, boom, the sound came again and again. No, it wasn’t the footsteps of some kind of behemoth. There were so many, so numerous, but every thunder-like sound was so rhythmic, like they were in time with one another. A giant cloud of grey dust was being stirred up along the horizon, as whatever it was that was coming got closer. No, it wasn’t some monstrous being, walking in from The Wilderness. It was far worse than that.
Boom, boom, boom, the sounds came again, one after the other, rhythmically timed. Then Adam saw what it was and his eyes went wide in horror. A gigantic head burst forth from the cloud of dust, followed by another, and another. Hundreds of heads, shoulders, torsos, legs, broke through the dust and began spreading out in an arc across The Wilderness. Every face held an expression of twisted rage and anger. Every set of eyes overflowed with burning crimson. Every horn was crooked, curved, and sharpened to a deadly point. Every mouth was filled with razor sharp teeth that jutted out of the creatures’ maw and glinted in the early morning sun. Every single one was a demon of the most fearsome kind.
The monstrosities that came out of the dust scared everyone off the wall. All of the creatures were the size of a small house. The air warped and shifted visibly about each demon, its broad, flat chest, massive forearms and biceps, and hulking legs appeared out of the dust as the army approached. Each creature dragged its oversized arms through the dirt, clearing a swathe of land away with each tightly balled fist. The dead trees in The Wilderness caught fire as they passed by and smoke soon filled the air behind them. The army was spreading further, heading across the whole of Gielinor to burn it to the ground.

Adam was paralyzed in fear, he knew exactly what the demons were. They looked like he did when he transformed. They were all connected to Zamorak, made by him, they were Zamorak Spawn.
*Adam, we have to get out of here! Come on!” Rachel screamed at Adam in terror as the creatures got closer, every tooth visible on their faces now, the sky over The Wilderness obscured by smoke. A loud whistling sound split the air and assaulted their eardrums. The whistling got louder and louder until out of the sky a huge fireball fell and struck the top of the castle, blowing it out of existence with an explosive bang.
Adam was roused from his petrified state by the sudden explosion, and began to follow after Rachel and John as they ran under the hail of pebbles. As he ran Adam turned his head to see where the fireball had come from, he spotted a very small figure floating in the middle of the frontline of the demon army. It was Zamorak.

Smoke drifted from Zamorak’s fingers after he loosed a giant fireball on Varrock. His deep crimson eyes lit up with warped joy as his fireball struck its mark, blowing the top of Varrock Castle clean off, the resulting dust blowing away in the wind.
“Now, my creatures, burn the land until you find the stone. Go! Do my bidding!” Zamorak shouted to his army.
Every creature in the line, connected to his mind, heard his message whether verbally or mentally. They put their heads to the sky and in unison all of them roared fiercely, and charged forward with unusual speed for creatures so big.

Back in Varrock the loud roar startled Adam, Rachel, and John. Every pane of glass in Varrock shattered and the three of them fell to the ground clutching their ears.
After they had recovered Adam stood up and said, still a little shocked, “I think we’re alright for now. Get your weapons ready, I’ll get my armor on.”

No sooner had he finished his sentence that twenty-some of the demonic monstrosities burst through Varrock’s North Wall like it was wet papyrus. The North Wall was completely leveled and the demons rushed into town, flammable materials catching fire as they passed near. Soon the entire city was beginning to burn. Smoke rose up to the horizon, blotting out the sun and obscuring the sky in all directions. The entirety of Gielinor was crying out as it burned.
Rachel and John were each holding off one of the beasts. John was slashing at his with his sword, leaving deep cuts that seemed to leave the demon unfazed regardless. Rachel was firing off spells of every kind, some leaving burns, some cuts, some bruises, but nothing seemed able to stop the demons. Adam slipped his helmet on and called out to them, “Okay, I’m read—” Adam was cut short as one of the creatures ran up and smashed a fist into his armored chest, the metal screeched and rang as it was dented by the incredible force of the hit.
Adam was knocked off of his feet and flew through the air almost a full city block. Rachel focused her powers on Adam and a gust of wind set him down gently on the ground down the street. She then concentrated as hard as she could, pulling a few blood runes out of her pouch and utilizing the earth and air around her. A dart of very dense rock hurtled toward the demon she was fighting, hitting it right between the eyes and coming out the back of its skull, followed by a stream of blood. The creature screamed in pain and then evaporated into dust.

John was still fighting his but he had succeeded in chopping off its left arm. The demon was vigorously slamming its fist into the ground in a vain attempt to hit John. Rachel pulled some more runes out and channeled her intentions through them. The demon John was fighting froze in place, bound by the spell momentarily. John seized the opportunity and removed its head from its shoulders. The entire thing turned to dust before the disembodied head even hit the ground.
“Come on Rachel, we’ve got to help Adam,” John called out to Rachel.
“Yeah, let’s go,” Rachel agreed, already beginning to run towards where Adam could be seen fighting down the street, the demon pummeling him with its gargantuan fists.
Adam was using his armored forearms and his combat experience to keep himself safe, but his energy was fading fast. Adam stabbed down with his red dagger, hoping the demon would enjoy the surprise he had put on the tip. The dagger sunk in to the hilt and the creature recoiled in pain as the poison surged through its veins. Adam noticed it was distracted and leaped up on its arm, running up to the shoulder of the demon. He leaped behind its head right as the creature raked its claws across the spot where he had been moments before. Blood trickled from the claw marks the stupid beast had made on itself. Adam raised his right arm and brought the knife plunging down into the back of the demons skull, putting the poison right into its brain. Blood spurted out of the wound for a minute as the creature reared up, wailing in pain and frustration. Then, it too turned into dust and blew away on a wind that smelled of smoke and death.
“Let’s go kill the rest of these things,” Adam said grimly to John and Rachel, who had just reached him.
Adam stood up and brushed some of the blood off of his dented armor before taking off towards the nearest demon, with John and Rachel in tow.

I do play, Elly, yet, Alas! You are never on when I do. Also, sometimes I'm playing, but not in the Word, and you don't know cause I haven't added you to my friends list. I was the ONLY one in the clan for about an hour a few days back, (Til C0smic showed up...) and I played Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess today. :P I'll be on Friday.
Hoorah! New adds! Will read. :D
