~Chapter XXIV~
Siegfried and Katrina received word of A's deed not long after they happened. The police chief informed them that they could speak with him if they wished it. He gave them the number and left it up to them.
The two of them were still logged in and decided that Siegfried would call him and hold his phone up to his headset so that Katrina could hear and speak to A as well as Siegfried.
He dialed the number and awaited a response.
The phone was answered.
"Hello? A? What happened?!" Siegfried almost screamed into the device.
There was an irritated groan from the other end.
"Please don't yell, my head hurts and everything looks fuzzy." Came the soft, tired response.
At first, Siegfried and Katrina weren't sure who they were talking to.
"Uh...A?" Katrina stammered.
"Yeah?"
"That really you...?"
A blinked in confusion, unsure of what they meant. In his tiredness from the fight and the wounds he'd suffered, he'd only just realised that this was the first time he'd spoken to either of them without a voice disguising software.
"Oh, damn. This is the first time you've heard me speak normally isn't it?" A questioned rhetorically, with the same exasperated tone. "Yeah, it's really me."
"Are you alright? You sound sleepy." Katrina said whilst looking outside. It was barely seven PM Cambridge, so it couldn't be that possible that A was weary from lack of sleep.
But how had A managed to defeat Adrian if he lived in Cambridge and Adrian was in New York? Then it clicked in Katrin*'* head.
"Are you in America right now?"
"I am, why do you ask?"
"How long have you been there?"
"Since two days ago. I lied when I said I was recovering from the Wide Eyes and Muscles attack."
But that still didn't make any sense. If he'd been there that long he would had recovered from any jet lag he had. Even if he hadn't, it was only eight in the morning in New York.
"How come you sound sle-"
"Are you hurt?!" Siegfried suddenly exclaimed.

"I am." A responded simply.
Katrina's eyes widened in fear. Once she heard A's voice, once she realised how young he sounded she thought it would be impossible that he would be injured in any way, simply because he wasn't an adult.
That's why it hadn't crossed her mind to asked. But Siegfried had managed to work it out.
"How badly?" She asked.
"A bullet in my leg and arm and a cut across my other arm."
Katrina was silenced by the horror of his situation. Siegfried continued to talk.
"You must've put up a hell'va fight then." He said with a chuckle.
A gave a small laugh in return. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."
"So what happened? You've been in America since you went on Adrian's trail I know that, but did you find out anything else? Did Adrian tell you anything about the Glitch? What about-"
"I didn't find out anything," A said simply. "I fought and killed him, nothing more."
"Why..." Katrina suddenly gasped as she realised something. "Why did you do it; go all the way to America, going as far as letting him escape, just so you could kill him with your bare hands...?"
There was a long pause. All that could be heard was the distant sound of rain.
A finally answered with "Because I felt that I needed to. No, that I was the one best suited for it."
"Why?"
A answered with solemnity in his tone.
"Because I was the only one who could kill him so that he would die happy."
The sound of an approaching ambulance could be heard over Siegfried's phone, indicating that the conversation was coming to a close.
"I gotta go. I'll talk to you guys later. And..."
The sound of the rain dulled, as if to symbolise the ending of not only the conversation, but the end of a long turn of events that resulted in the deaths of many, the end of a time in Runescape's history stained with the blood of many, a time where six people clashed united and clashed for their own goals.
"Thank you for all your help."

~Chapter XXV~
-Four months later-
Siegfried was leaning up against a pillar that housed the gateway to Cambridge Selective High School. He was there dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans, had his arms crossed and looking as menacing as usual. Roughly a week ago, A had invited him to England, so that they may meet each other.
Siegfried heard the ringing of a bell, signaling the end of the school day. He heard the sounds of delighted high school students running around the halls, eager to leave the monotony of the school grounds and return to their homes.
Siegfried had lost his home only a fortnight ago. He'd been unable to get a job, even after several months. He'd make his money by doing odd jobs for people when they came, but even that didn't last long. He had hardly any money and no home. For the past few days he'd been carrying around bags of his own things, wandering his home city of Sydney and sleeping in public places when nobody was around.
That was about to change.
The gates Siegfried had been leaning beside swung open and a wave of kids rushed out. Siegfried scanned the crowd, looking for anyone who might be him, but had absolutely no idea what he was supposed to be looking for.
Then, with his eyes on the crowd, someone tapped him on the shoulder and spoke his name in an all to familiar voice.
Siegfried turned and was greeted with the sight of a boy, no younger than fourteen years old and dressed in the school uniform everyone else was in. A white, button up, short sleeved top, black, shin length, trousers and matching shoes. The boy had brown hair, mid length and curling at the tips. His eyes were a deep shade of green and deadly serious, his expression blank and unreadable.
The one thing unique about this boy when compared to all the others, was that he was bandaged up in several places. One was wrapped around the top of his head. Another around his upper arm and shin. One more was around his wrist.
Siegfried chuckled.

"Wow, I expected you to be at least sixteen..."
"Well, guess you can't judge a book by it's cover." He replied smartly, in his same quiet, comforting tone.
"Hey Al!" another boy cried out to A as he ran by. "Is that trigonometry test on tomorrow or Friday?"
"Tomorrow."
"Gah! Which one's Sine again?"
"Study and find out yourself."
The boy grumbled something and bid A farewell. Siegfried then turned to speak to him.
"Al?" He asked in regard to what the other kid had called him.
"Aloyious James Anderson," A declared, bowing courteously. "The Anonymous Agent, A of Runescape and Cambridge Selective's smartest cookie."
Siegfried almost exploded with laughter at A's ridiculous introduction. A joined in as well, laughing almost as hard which stopped Siegfried immediately.
"I've never heard you laugh like that..." He said skeptically.
A grinned "I've never been in a situation where I've wanted to."
"So uh, what do I call you now? Calling you A seems kinda weird now..."
"Aloyious, Al, A...I don't mind. Though if you can't decide Al will do."
"Alright. What do you bring me here to show me Al?"
Aloyious beckoned him to follow as he began to walk down the calm streets of the town. As they walked, Siegfried asked Aloyious about the area, what it was liking living here, but his main question was about his family.
"My parents divorced when I was two. My father abandoned me soon after. Before long I was adopted by the Cambridge chief of police. Since then, I've been living in the house down the street from them, alone."
"They let you live alone?"
"I'm smart enough to, so they don't mind. Ever since they discovered how smart I was they allowed me to do as I please. They've taught me a lot, the police. Taught me to defend myself, fire weapons, conduct forensic investigations...Gave me a home and a job."
Siegfried look around to find that they'd just past the station. According to what Aloyious said, that meant they were close.

"It's a nice neighbourhood." Siegfried commented.
"One of the great things about it, is that Jagex HQ isn't too far away. I've been there a couple of times."
"What's it like?"
Aloyious put his finger to his lips and grinned. "That's a secret."
He suddenly stopped outside a two storey house on the corner of the street. It looked small compared to the other houses on the street, but also cozy and inviting. There wasn't a garage or even a very large garden, but Aloyious had decoratively put up a pair of baskets hanging from hooks beside the front door, full of some sort of lush green plants. There were flowers growing on the few patches of grass surrounding the front of the house, red and blue with some pink. Siegfried also spied a pool in the backyard and a small trampoline.
Upon reaching the door Siegfried also noticed a doormat, with the corny message of 'Home Sweet Home' written over it. A took a key from his pocket and placed it in the door, unlocking and opening it.
Although he lived alone, Siegfried was astounded at how neat, tidy and spectacularly grand the house looked on the inside. Aloyious's living room was left of the door and had all manner of gaming consoles hooked up to a large television indented in the wall, four lounges scattered themselves around the room in a box formation. A coffee table sat in the middle of them all, adorned with magazines, remote controls and gaming controllers in orderly fashions.
The Bathroom was right of the entrance, it was large and fancy, made of glass and sparkling clean. The bath looked almost as deep as the pool at the back!
In front of them was a spiraling staircase made of some smooth, dark coloured and finely polished wood.
Aloyious place his bag on a hook beside the door and slipped off his shoes. Siegfried also took off his shoes and placed his bag in as neat a fashion as he could beside the door.
Aloyious began ascending the stairs and indicated that Siegfried follow.

The upstairs was even better than the downstairs. It was Aloyious bedroom and kitchen, the two rooms connected with only half a wall to separate them. The kitchen was of course, immaculate. All of Aloyious's food was stored in red cupboards at the far side of the room. All the other kitchen appliances were lined up in a row at the front of the room.
His bedroom was fairly empty. It consisted of a bed in the far left corner, a desk on the far right. His computer and computer peripherals were sitting on the desk, idle.
"What do you think?" Aloyious said at last.
"Do you have people over often? Your house is amazing."
A smiled, Siegfried noted that he did this a lot. "Yeah, my friends come over sometimes. But I mostly just like the place looking good."
"You must be loaded with cash or something..."
Aloyious once again grinned enigmatically. Then his eyes expression turned serious again.
"What would you feel like if you could live here?" He said suddenly.
Siegfried was gobsmacked.
"W-what do you mean?" He stammered.
"What I said. If I said you could live here what would you say?"
Siegfried mulled over this. The suddenness of the question confused him.
"What for?" He asked at last.
"Because you deserve it," Aloyious responded. "You've risked your life to save hundreds of people. You've almost died and sacrificed your time and money to protect people and you're not living anywhere. There's no way I could let that happen to a friend.
"So, myself and everyone else decided we'd reward you. We decided to give you what I myself have been given: a home and a job."
"A job...?" Siegfried asked bewildered, still trying to take in all this.
"As my partner. I can teach you all you need to know and together we can continue to save the world, one crime at a time."
Siegried was quiet for a while. A full three minutes past as he pondered over his situation.
A job.
A home.
A life.
A purpose.
Siegfried realised what he was being offered. What he'd always wanted.

"I gladly accept." He said with finality.
"That's great," Aloyious said as the doorbell sounded. "That will be our other guest, I'll go let her in."
"Other guest?" Siegfried thought as Aloyious descended the staircase to answer to door. When he realised that Al had said 'her' he knew who they were.
Aloyious could be heard introducing himself and then returned up the stairs with Katrina in tow, she, like Siegfried had, surveyed the magnificent sight that was Aloyious' house.
"Take a seat," Aloyious said, indicating towards the lounge at the back of the room Siegfried had failed to notice upon entry. Katrina and Siegfried seated themselves next to each other on the spacious seat and just looked at their surrounding for a while while Aloyious went into the kitchen to get something. Katrina was the one to break the silence
"So, that's really him huh?" She asked.
"Yep, don't judge a book by it's cover." Was Siegfried's curt response.
Al returned with three glasses of an orange flavoured soft drink. He gave one to each of his guests and kept one for himself as he seated himself upon his bed.
"So, what's going on?" Katrina asked.
Aloyious took a sip of his drink and explained.
"I just wanted to thank you both again for your help. I honestly couldn't have done it without you. Thank you."
"Well...Uh, no problem I guess."
"Basically, what I want to say is...Anytime you feel like coming over and saying hi, you can, Katrina."
Katrina grinned. "I certainly wouldn't mind visiting this nice place once in a while..."
The three of them laughed and began chatting, not about any sort of topic in particular, just whatever came to mind.
Though The Fatal Glitch had tainted the minds and hearts, caused the deaths and desecration of whomever wrongly involved it did have one good outcome.
The binding together of three friends.

The Fatal Glitch's origins were never uncovered. It seemed, that after Adrian Nave's death at the hands of Aloyious Anderson, all remaining players afflicted suddenly had their powers removed.
And so it was never spoken of again. As if seeing something out of the corner of your eye, no one was really sure that it happened.
Peace returned to the world of Runescape. There was no more fear of death by electric blast, no more hostile takeovers or unnecessary slaughters commited in the name of revenge. The three players and their legions of comrades would go on living their lives as normal, their deeds unknown to the rest of the Runescape world.
So as Aloyious and Siegfried worked together as private, self employed officers and as Katrina worked towards improving the game of Runescape, the world returned to normal.
But rumours would spread. Tales and stories would be told. Word would be let out that once, The Fatal Glitch caused havoc and chaos among the fictional world of Runescape. Three heroes would rise up and rid the evil from the land. Their deeds would be a tale spoken of for many generations of Runescape players to come.
A story of a quiet, intelligent, unnamed investigator.
A story of a disgruntled yet strong willed warrior.
A story of a determined, quick thinking moderator.
A story of a pair of enigmatic, broad thinking villains.
A story of a vengeful, twisted but in the end lost boy.
A story, that would be forever known, as The Fatal Glitch.

~~The End~~
