"Adrian Nave!" A voice boomed from outside his house, speaking through a megaphone. "Come out with your hands up! We have your house surrounded and are shooting to kill!"
Adrian let another foul curse loose and visually searched his room for options. He noticed that the two policemen had had their guns out and dropped them once they were killed. Adrian grabbed the weapons and looked for a way out. He glanced out his window and saw a row of policemen aiming right for him.
He dived out of his room as his window was gunned to shards. He got to his feet and stumbled through his kitchen. On the bench, mixed up with all the other cutlery was a long bladed knife which Adrian proceeded to grab and place in his pocket. He dashed out of his house and leapt over the fence of his backyard where another line of four or so police waited.
Without hesitance nor mercy he fired the pistols into the chests of two officers before him. He then rolled out of the way of the other two and fired at them. His accuracy was a little off and he missed the other two soldiers of the law. They retaliated, but Adrian had already flung himself over a pile of garbage bins and into a neighbouring alleyway.
The only disadvantages the officers had against Adrian was their little knowledge of the area and the surprise attack Adrian had pulled on them.
Now Adrian had left Runescape, Katrina, Siegfried and all the officers behind, weaving in and out of the alleyways he knew so well. As he ran, it occurred to him that it wouldn't matter if he survived later or not.
The Fatal Glitch had turned him from a vengeful but still peaceful human into a cold blooded murderer.
And he loved it.

~Chapter XXII~
He was leaving everything behind. Family, friends, even Runescape. The Fatal Glitch didn't matter anymore, he had a pair of guns and a knife. Killing was all he wanted to do now.
He leapt over garbage bins, slid under rails, running for his life from the ever present threat of the remained policemen following him. Adrian had once though of himself as sane but now he couldn't care less, yet he did wonder how he managed to escape so easily. Sure, with the first two cops he got lucky and manipulated the glitch to his advantage. But it was almost as if they'd LET him pass the second time because it had been so easy.
He'd no doubt the officers he shot had been wearing protective vests under their uniforms as there was no blood as he fired into their chests. He also was aware that he was only a fourteen year old kid. How had he outmaneuvered a small platoon of officers?
When he rounded a corner and received a fist to the face he would soon understand.

A'* account logged in, but it wasn't A who had done it.
"This is police chief Morrigan," came a deep voice over Siegfried and Katrina's headset, after joining their voicechat. The two of them had no trouble killing Adrian's account after he left his computer. They even began to repeatedly destroy the avatar just to make sure.
"What's the sit' chief?" Siegfried questioned. "We get 'im?"
"I'm afraid not. He fled his computer and his house after we announced we had him surrounded, he is now fleeing through the alleyways of his suburb."
"What?!" Katrina and Siegfried exclaimed simultaneously.
"Fear not, we let him escape. He is currently armed with two guns and a knife from his kitchen but should be no problem."
"Shouldn't be a problem? So you're chasing him?" Katrina inquired.
"No."
"So how are you going to catch him? And where's A?"
The police chief chuckled.
"You'll see..."

Adrian crashed to the ground, dropping one of his guns in the process. The blow had been hard and directly to Adrian's nose, coming close to breaking it. Adrian's first reaction was to whip up the gun and fire, but his attacker reacted with almost inhuman timing and dived to the right.
His assailant then rolled forward and grabbed Adrian's gun arm and twisted. As Adrian was still recoiling from the blow to his nose he dropped his second gun, leaving him unarmed save for the knife in his pocket.
As Adrian struggled to get up he was immediately pushed back down. Adrian lashed out with his foot and managed to connect with the chest of his opponent, knocking them back enough for Adrian to renew himself and stand up.
That's when he got a look at his attacker for the first time and froze.
Standing before him was a boy, roughly the same size as Adrian. He was cloaked in a white, hooded jacket, unzipped to reveal a black T-shirt below. As the hood was draped over his face, Adrian couldn't make out any of his features from the mouth down. He also had on a pair of grey trousers, reaching to his ankles which were from then on covered with white socks under a blue set of almost completely clean shoes.
"Wh-who are you?" Adrian stammered at the sight of the boy.
Without saying a word the child lashed out at Adrian's waist with his right foot. Adrian moved to block the move with his arms but was slammed in the left side of the face by the other boys fist. He was then smacked in the waist by the rapidly incoming foot.
Adrian wasn't hit as hard as he was before and managed to retaliate faster than before, kicking out with his right leg and immediately ducking and punching for the other boy's abdomen.
But Adrian's attacker was fast and swung his foot round to knock Adrian's to the side and land a blow to the side of his head, knocking him down.

By now Adrian was getting frustrated. He'd always been in good physical condition, being fast and strong, holding his own against bullies he'd fought in the school yard. He'd still lose every time, but not too hard and most of the people he fought were bigger and older than he was.
So how was it that this boy, the same size and build as Adrian was thrashing him with ease?
"Tell me who you are," Adrian demanded "Are you with the police?"
The boy responded with a nod.
"In that case..."
Adrian's hand went in and out of his pocket in an instant.
"It's going to be good for me to kill you!"
With that he dived forward, knife in his right hand and slashing diagonally from the top right. The boy took a quick step back, evading the cut and countered with a punch aimed, once again, for Adrian's face.
Adrian managed to avoid the blow this time, fueled by the need to kill he lunged forward with the knife, targeting his foe's stomach. The boy merely stepped aside as Adrian stabbed and clasped his hand around Adrian's knife hand. He then delivered a harsh blow to the back of Adrian's head with his free hand, sending him into a daze.
Adrian stumbled to the ground in his confusion and was then repeatedly kicked in the side while he was down.
Adrian spluttered and rolled over in pain, releasing his hold on the blade as he did. He opened his eyes and batted the boy's leg away, ending his flurry of blows.
Adrian was about to get up and retaliate before he spied one of his guns lying not much more than a metre away. His opponent saw it aswell, along with Adrian's intentions and dived for the firearm. But he was just a fraction too far away for him to get it first.
While still on the ground, Adrian seized the weapon just as the boy's hand collided with the pavement, his body following. In a flash he flung the gun up and fired.
Adrian felt blood rain down on his face, the red liquid splattering all over the pavement. He looked up to see where he had hit his foe.

Only to have his opponents foot smash into the side of his head fiercely, hitting him with enough force to draw blood.
Adrian held fast to his weapon and attempted to shoot again, only the same foot that had just recently struck him in the side of the head was now crushing his hand with surprising strength. The other foot then came down, sealing Adrian's movements with his arms.
Adrian glanced upwards, a drop of blood splashing in his eye as he did so.
His foe's upper arm was drenched in the red liquid, clearly indicating the spot where he was hit with the bullet. Nonetheless, he had countered with extreme speed and now had Adrian pinned to the ground.
For the moment.
He began to speak, his voice soft, almost soothing to listen too if he wasn't in a fight to the death with him.
"Why?" He said simply. Adrian didn't understand so he began to say more.
"Why kill those people?"
"They deserved it," Adrian responded as simply as the boy had asked. "They did nothing but cause pain."
"So does that mean you also deserve it?" Was the boy's cool response. "You've killed people by horrible, torturous means and thus causing pain. But not just that, have you considered the families, friends, loved ones of the those you've slaughtered? Didn't you consider that by killing those that pained you, you'd be paining those that did not, as you put it, 'deserve it'?"
Adrian remained silent. Not because he was contemplating what the boy had said but because he was trying to escape his hold in order to get a shot in at his head & end this.
"I imagine you couldn't care less about who you killed now though," Adrian's foe continued. "Just now you set about killing whoever got in your way, regardless of what they were doing. The first person you killed was a random human who'd angered you. His death didn't deter you and neither did any of the others."
The boy leant in close, placing his hand atop Adrian's & yanking it up so he could see the top of his hood, where his eyes would be.

"Now you don't care. Now you just kill because you want to. That disgusts me, I hate it. Those who would take the lives of others, merely for their own satisfaction...Do you deny doing or wanting this?"
Adrian shook his head, captivated by his opponents speech, but still not shifitng his attitudes or motives. He no longer cared for anyone in the world but himself.
"You've murdered. You plan to murder even more. You're a monster...Therefore..."
Something changed in what he could see of the boy's expression. His mouth twisted upwards wickedly, his grip on Adrian's skull hardened and the pressure he was putting on his hands increased.
Then his voice changed, from cool and calming to a sinister whisper, as if uttered by some frightful, though quiet demon.
"...You. Deserve. To. Die."

~Chapter XXIII~
Adrian didn't even have time to draw another breath before the hand on his head suddenly fixed itself around his neck with chokingly powerful force.
Adrian was so shocked by the force of the attack he jerked his body upwards, finding himself now on his knees and his hands free.
He tried to fire with his pistol, but was surprised once again finding another crushingly brutal hand holding his arm in place. Despite this, Adrian was still able to aim and fire at his opponent's legs. He fired twice, but as he pulled the trigger for the first time he was rammed down onto the ground, causing his second shot to go off course and hit the side of a building nearby.
His first shot had managed to tear through the right leg of his foe, but this neither hindered nor weakened their choking grip.
His supply of air was being depleted rapidly because of the rapid movements of his and his opponents bodies. He became desperate to breathe again and thrashed about with his legs, wildly swinging them around in an attempt to hit his opponent off.
All to no avail.
His sight dwindled, a black curtain seemed to be descending over him as he drifted into his final sleep. But just as he was about to black out, he caught a glint of silver not too far away.
His knife.
In a final attempt to dislodge his opponent, he reached for the blade and slashed horizontally.
The curtain of darkness was replaced by the eruption of a volcano, as he struck his foe deeply on his choking hand. The blade cut all the way to the bone, showering Adrian with the thick liquid as his assailant tore his arms away, not from pain but reflex.
Adrian leapt up, deciding not to continue the fight, despite his opponent having three injured limbs.
He was terrified.
While it was completely possibly for a human to have the strength and speed of the boy he faced, it was the way he acted, the way he moved, the way he spoke that rattled Adrian into fear.

Adrian had killed and had no problems with it. He'd enjoyed it, seen and survived those who wished to kill him. But he'd never looked at himself in the mirror.
He'd never confronted someone with the same intentions, someone who wanted his death, his absolute and total slaughter as equally as he wanted theirs.
He'd never realised how much of a monster he'd become.
Adrian stumbled as he fled, in his fear he ran, suddenly unaware of where he was, confused and disorientated. He became lost in the intricate alleyways that he'd lived by his very life.
It began to rain, heavily. Adrian's eyes became wet and blurry, not just with the rain but with blood, from his opponent and tears, spawned from the depths of Adrian's soul.
Terror ate away at his very mind, his opponents words replaying horribly, over and over through his brain.
"You. Deserve. To. Die."
He'd said it himself, multiple times before he'd killed his enemies, when he confronted them in the schoolyard he'd declare it to them so as to unnerve them.
But he'd never heard it said to him.
He'd never expected the four words to sound so indescribably vile and twisted.
He fell, tripping over a pile of junk & landing in a recently formed puddle. His sobbed and cried, suddenly becoming upset with what he'd done. His nightmarish desires of death and slaughter suddenly washed away with his tears, his reflection scaring him to the point of enlightenment.
He heard footsteps behind him, no doubt his foe. He was still holding the gun and the knife but didn't seem to notice that they were there. He gazed up from the puddle & found himself looking down the barrel of a silenced pistol.
Looking past the weapon, he found that his opponent had drawn back some of his hood, revealing his face from the forehead down. His eyes were a deep, dark green, serious and full of pity for the now broken spirited boy that looked up at them.
For a moment, the patter of the rain and dripping of the boy's blood were the only sounds heard.

Adrian took the time to consider the pain the other boy was in. He had a bullet in his upper right arm, the arm which now held the gun, another bullet in his right shin and a deep cut across his left wrist which now hung limply at his side. The rain was washing the wounds out, soaking his white jacket with the thick, red substance.
He then considered what was going through his mind, what he would be thinking as he held the life of a boy his age in a small firearm.
With a feeling of total dread, Adrian knew what he must have been thinking.
The same thing Adrian thought whenever he was about to kill someone via the Fatal Glitch. How he'd do it and how he'd feel about it.
"Adrian Nave," The boy spoke, his voice soft and soothing as it was when they first collided. "Right now I hold your life. Any movements at all and I will shoot."
Adrian remained silent.
"Right now if I killed you, it would appear obvious that I did it in self defense," He went on, glancing at his severe wounds. "But I don't have to. What do you think: do you deserve to live or die?"
The suddenness of the questioned caught Adrian off guard. He would get to choose? His response would be obvious.
"I don't want to die!" Adrian moaned as the rain increased in intensity. He dropped his two weapons, no longer seeing any use in holding them. He couldn't fight or run. There was nothing he could do.
"You don't? What about the people you killed?"
Adrian was silent.
The boy's eyes hadn't changed once during the conversation. Adrian had been staring at them intently, hypnotised by their entrancing glare.
"The people you killed didn't deserve to die either. But you still killed them, for revenge, enjoyment, it doesn't matter!"
He said the next few words very slowly and quietly, wanting them to be heard.
"Nobody in this world deserves to die."

Adrian stopped breathing. His vision blurred as more tears came. His last sight in the world was that of the boy's eyes as they seemed to change with his emotion.
The look of seriousness vanished, replaced by one of sadness.
"But what good is a life, when all you're going to do is waste it? Your name forever ruined by your past deeds, your family, friends, anyone you interact with will never be able to trust, talk, even look at you. All because you gave into the desire to kill,"
He raised the gun to Adrian's forehead.
"All you'd do is cause pain to those around you and yourself. Nobody deserves to die but even more so, nobody deserves to suffer."
His comforting words spoke truth. The sound of his soothing voice nullified the sound of the bullet, the sound of the rain, the sound of his own body falling face first onto the soaking wet ground.
Submerged partially in a puddle, suffering, but at peace, Adrian Nave, he whose life was changed by a Fatal Glitch, died.
The unnamed boy re-holstered his weapon in the back of his hood, drawing the cover completely over his head to shield himself from the falling rain. He eyed with pity, one last time at the deceased child, whose life he had taken in the name of justice and peace, then turned away, never to look at him again.
With his only good hand, he produced from his pocket a small mobile phone and dialled a number.
"This is Morrigan, are you alright?" The voice on the other end answered.
"I need an ambulance, right away."
"Did you...?"
"Yes," he said, looking to the grey skies with contentment.
"Tell everyone, Siegfried, Katrina...Tell them A did it. It's over."
He hung up and sat down in the alleyway, sighing with relief. His blood still leaked furiously, he was cold and feeling sick.
But he was alive.
And he'd won.
The Fatal Glitch was no more.
