Due to Siegfried and A'* use of the slow but powerful godswords, neither of them were able to continue their assault quickly enough. With only one hitpoint left, neither of them expected Wide Eyes to try and kill one of them.
But the dragon dagger appeared in Wide Eye's hand and the special attack was clicked on once and only once. The next move Wide Eyes made was a hasty click on his Paddawa teleport spell.
His dagger flashed twice and then his avatar disappeared in a cloud of purple. Siegfried nor A managed to land a blow before he had escaped.
But Wide Eyes had.
For a bloody thirty two and twenty had appeared on A'* body.
Siegfried suddenly heard what could be described as a power station exploding. The sound roared through his headpiece, high pitched and painful to listen. It was only after the sound vanished that he noticed that A'* character had vanished.
On the ground where he should have been standing, right ahead of Muscle's was a gravestone.
"No, damn it, A no!!" Siegfried yelled into his microphone.
"What happened? What was that noise?!" Came a frantic cry from Katrina, who had been silent during the scuffle.
"Wait! Wide Eyes! He's at Paddawa! Err, level fourty four wilderness! I need assistance!" Another Jagex moderator called.
"Siegfried! We need to catch him and only you can I can do it!" Katrina shouted with haste.
"But-"
"NOW!"
*******************************************************************************
When Wide Eyes arrived at his destination, the seemingly desolate area of the Wilderness known as Paddawa he assumed he was safe. But when he found a Jagex moderator, draped in full Torag and of equal level to him, his eyes widened beyond their usual size in fear.
Imagine his surprise when literally twenty other people, including the one who had attacked him recently all appeared and surrounded him.
Katrina and Siegfried stepped forward.

"You're finished Wide Eyes," Katrina announced "Siegfried and myself are afflicted with the glitch and will not hesitate to kill you if you make any funny moves or try to eat any food."
Wide Eyes had already eaten most of his inventory before the moderators had arrived. He was out of special attack power and prayer as well.
The only thing left to do was to run.
He suddenly cast Ice Barrage on Katrina and Siegfried, only to find they had been standing exactly four squares away from each other and the attack only hit Siegfried. Katrina, dressed in full Infinity magic armour, retaliated against Wide Eyes with the same spell he had just used. But as he had been in Ahrims, the attack splashed Wide Eyes ran for it.
Against all odds, Katrina cast another barrage spell only to have it splash again. Wide Eyes was now out of attack range.
"Damnit! He's going south!" Katrina yelled "A didn't tell us what to do if he ran!"
"He didn't need to..." Siegfried murmured with awe as he looked at the list of people in the voice chat.
Katrina was confused, but her confusion ended soon after she had run a little south.
Wide Eyes had stopped in his tracks, frozen in place by an holding spell. Almost half a map away, in white Mystic armour with Saradromin sword in hand, was A. He quickly switched back to his shining initiate armour and changed his weapon to his godsword.
By then Katrina and Siegfried had arrived and to be safe, Katrina had cast another ice spell to keep Wide Eyes in place. A then proceeded to give Siegfried ice runes and standard magic armour.
Then all three of them formed and triange around Wide Eyes, leaving him no one to attack and nowhere to run. A chuckled, and spoke.
"Not exactly how I planned it, but in the end the outcome is the same. You lose, Wide Eyes."

~Chapter XVI~
Wide Eyes never saw it coming. That he had been so easily tricked baffled him to the point where all he could do was sit at his computer and shake with fear.
He'd been caught committing acts of murder and that in itself was enough to cause anyone to tremble in anxiety, but that's not why he was shivering.
He'd been caught by the very man he'd just killed.
"How...How the hell are you alive?!" Wide Eyes screamed at last, glaring hatefully at his brother's murderer. He then converted his shout to text form and sent the message to the crowd around him. He received a curt response from A.
"Sorry, that's a secret."
Katrina, Siegfried and the rest of the Jagex staff for that matter were all equally bamboozled by A'* sudden appearance. When he'd dropped dead in Runescape and the electricity heard throughout all of their headsets everyone had assumed he had died along with his character as everyone killed by the glitch should.
However, his character stood, very much alive & armed in front of them and managed to apprehend Wide Eyes. They needed answers.
"How are you alive...?" Siegfried asked first over the voice caht, as no one else seemed to have the courage to ask first.
"Pure luck," Was A'* response, his familiar electronic voice pleasantly reminding everyone that this was the real A. "It missed me."
"Missed you? What missed you?" Katrina inquired.
"The lightning," A explained. "I suppose it mostly had to do with my reflexes...You see I've always had good motor skills. Ever since I was little I've exhibited amazing reflexes to the point where I've been able to dodge knife thrusts from a point blank range. That's why I'm a such a good pker, I can react quickly to the situations at hand and win or survive most to all of my fights.
"When I saw my hitpoints hit zero I acted entirely on instincts; I pushed myself off my chair onto the floor. As the lightning came out of my computer I was falling backwards. It literally missed me by half a millimetre.

"It was quite possibly the most frightening (not to mention painful) experiences of my life. The heat of the electricity was searing and I'm probably going to need to go to hospital soon...Not to mention I hit the ground with my head and I'm bleeding now."
Everyone listening was trying to take all of this in. He'd dodged the blast because of his incredible reaction time that is adequate enough to evade slashes from an attacker right before him (this was a subject among many of the group's mind: when had someone as young as A been attacked by a knife wielding maniac?) and as such, survived the seemingly fatal glitch.
But A'* survival wasn't all that had added to Wide Eyes capture. It was also his tactical planning. Before he and Siegfried had engaged the two, A had instructed all of the Jagex staff to stand at every single teleport zone possible. A had anticipated them trying to escape and taken the necessary precaution. If either of them teleported then there would be someone there to report it.
A had intended to get one or both of them to teleport when they were on the ropes, then get Siegfried to re-stock his supply of food at a nearby bank and teleport to the same location they were at to finish them off. If they managed to escape once more, A would teleport to that location and if they tried once more, it'd be Katrina's turn. By then Siegfried would have had the time to get another teleport and ensure that they had nowhere to run.
Even as his character died A had remained in the voice chat channel and learnt of Wide Eyes location and doings. He was able to predict his moves and location and stop him as such.
The plan worked perfectly.
But there was one thing A didn't expect, purely because of the minute chance it would actually happen.
With an army of moderators around him Wide Eyes was backed up against the wall. He had literally no options left and could do nothing but sit there silently.

He'd attempted to log out several times but was punched by Katrina every few second to make sure he was still unable to log out. If he fought back, he would be killed.
Then the unthinkable happened. A had begun to type out his first question for Wide Eyes when who else but the Sandwich Lady popped up.
"Would you like some sandwiches Wide Eyes?" The NPC asked.
Hope flamed within Wide Eyes heart as he grabbed a hold of the wrong delicacy from the Sandwich Lady's tray. The second the random event had appeared A had charged forward, godsword in hand and special attack ready to kill. He may never get any answers out of Wide Eyes but it was better than letting him live.
A spun majestically through the air, the same move that had killed Muscles was now being used on Wide Eyes but to no avail. A was disappointed to find that he'd splashed a measly zero on Wide Eyes.
"I didn't say you could have that one!" The now enraged pastry vendor roared as she clubbed Wide Eyes over the head with a hardened baguette.
With a laugh, Wide Eyes vanished before the eyes of all the Jagex mods.
"Damn!" A roared "Quick! Everyone to level twenty Wilderness, once there teleport to the zone I'd assigned you and find Wide Eyes!"
There was a mad dash south, everyone desperate to catch the murderer.
They'd never find him.
It would seem as though Wide Eyes was the luckiest man in the world as he appeared east of the Barbarian Village, a location without a direct teleport to and without anyone in sight. Everyone had emptied the world knowing that there were two murderers on it, save the people who were skilling or wished to see the two. Presently, no one was around Wide Eyes.
Wide Eyes made an ecstatic dash for the bank, preparing to slaughter everyone around him, to restart his malicious plans for the sake of not only Runescape's future but for the memory of his now deceased brother.
He was just south of the cooking guild when a white dot appeared on his map.

~Chapter XVII~
Jagex mods were teleporting like crazy.
Before long, A had instructed other moderators to join the fray so they'd have a larger search party.
But none of it would matter, because they'd never find Wide Eyes alive.
He'd just passed the cooking guild, there was only one person around. That was where Wide Eyes made his final mistake.
His hitpoints were somewhere around thirty, he had no food or potions left and was out of special attack energy. But despite all this, he still wanted to kill someone, just to show Jagex who was boss.
So, confident after just surviving what could have been the most unthinkable scenario, he cast an ice barrage spell on the player closest to him.
It was only after the bolt hit him did he see that the other player retaliated.
"What the hell?!" He screamed, out loud. He didn't have the time to type it ingame. Another bolt was fired at him.
"The price for murdering innocents, is your life." The other player declared as they fired their final, fatal bolt. Wide Eyes only had time to observe the name of the other player.
Fatality321. Adrian Nave.
Adrian laughed to himself out loud, for in his mind he was picturing the most gruesome and painful way for his enemy to die. He watched with relish as Wide Eyes's avatar fell to the ground, dead.
As that happened, Wide Eyes found himself ripped out of his seat by an unknown force. He was slammed roughly to the ground, snapping his spine and cracking the back of his head. Wide Eyes whimpered in pain and fear, as one by one every bone in his body began to bend and then shatter to pieces.
Adrian had made it so that one bone broke every thirty seconds. As there are two hundred and six bones in the adult human body, it took him over an hour and a half for all his bones to break.
He didn't live long enough for them all to shatter.

But long before any of that managed to take place, Wide Eyes' Runescape avatar had reappeared in Lumbridge. Siegfried had been the one assigned to Lumbridge & as such noticed Wide Eyes immediately. He was about to attack, to finish him off, no questions asked.
Then he noticed that Wide Eyes was completely stationary, not moving at the sight of Siegfried, the man he'd seen fighting him for dear life not before. Siegfried also noticed the complete lack of any form of weaponry or armour on his body. He contacted A and the Jagex Mods as soon as he could.
Within minutes, all of them had arrived at the scene, Siegfried had been punching the motionless character (receiving a retaliatory kick back with each jab) as to keep him logged in.
"Kill him." A declared, after a minute or so of surveillance. Siegfried did so, slashing him with his godsword and causing Wide Eyes' character to fall. He reappeared moments later, still motionless.
"He was dead before we got here." Siegfried concluded.
"Right, which means that there's at least one more person at there with the glitch. We have to find him, or the killings could continue."
"How do you know it's a him?" Katrina asked.
A elaborated on his findings, explaining that he hadn't suspected Wide Eyes and Muscles of being the original killers in the first place. He went through the list of three suspects he'd uncovered recently; the attendants of a high school in Chicago.
"I request that one of use infected remain around one of the three at all times. We'll follow them around, uncover everything about them, if they're in any clans, if they have any threads on the forums, everything. A continued.
"We'll start with Gordon first, I'll survey him. Once a week has gone by, if there are murders whilst I'm observing him, we can rule him out. I'll then get Siegfried to watch Braden. Again, after a week, we'll get Katrina to watch the next person: Adrian. I want you all to film your missions & chronicle them with dates as evidence."

"You're actually going to let people be killed in order to uncover the killer? Shouldn't we find another way that won't involve ay get killed?" Katrina asked, disliking the idea.
"Give me another way and I'll gladly comply." Was A'* response.
Siegfried, Katrina and the Jagex mods thought, but were unable to come up with another solution and reluctantly agreed to go through with the plan. A bid them farewell and teleported to his house. He would remain logged in, as usual in case anything came up while he was receiving aid for his wounds and start his search the next day. A had set up his computer so that a voice message would transfer the message to his mob*le *hone.
It was late in England, so Katrina also decided to retired, leaving Siegfried online alone.
He wandered Runescape in the worlds A had mentioned the three suspects frequently visited. As it was early morning for him, chances were that the suspects wouldn't be online at the moment. But just in case, he added them.
As expected, none of them were online or had their private chat enabled.
Siegfried wasn't doing anything that day, so to pass the time began to ponder over the suspects. He'd been sent an E*ail from A giving him all the known details and began to scour the document for clues.
He discovered, that of the three, Adrian was the most bullied and curiously had had his sister murdered by Wide Eyes and Muscles, yet did not attend the funeral. The document stated that Adrian was a vengeful person, that he'd try to get back at bullies that had hurt or humiliated him.
The other two students didn't have anything as remotely interesting as Adrian in their files.
Siegfried thought on the predicament a little longer before heading out to get some lunch.

~Chapter XVIII~
"Noland and Grant Eez."
"Huh?" said Siegfried.
"Wide Eyes and Muscles." A explained. It was two days after A had announced his plan. He'd been recovering from his near death experience but was back in action as soon as he logged on the day after.
"Oh, those their real names? Does that mean we found out who they were?"
A went on to explain how the two were expert hackers, breaking into bank's computer systems and the like. They'd turned to Runescape in order to further profit from Real World Trading and eventually, The Fatal Glitch.
"They were able to hack into the computer system of a school in New York, the same one our three suspects are from. That meant they must have known that they were murdering students from that school as well."
"Wait, does that mean they knew who the first killer was?"
"At the very least they knew where they went ** ******, as we did."
Katrina logged on a few seconds later. Siegfried had been on his way to A'* house and found Katrina at the Falador-Taverly intersection. She joined the voice chat almost instantly.
"So we've narrowed it down to three people. That should make it easy." She said upon entry.
"Assuming we haven't been set up, though as Wide Eyes an-Sorry, Noland and Grant had also killed people from the school, we can't treat it as coincidence. Not with so many lives at stake."
"I've noticed that there haven't been any murders lately." Siegfried commented as he stepped through the portal to A'* house.
A was seated upon his throne, in his snow white armour, awaiting the presence of his subjects.
"No, I imagine that's because our killer was the one who defeated Noland and us such, is probably aware that they're under suspicion."
"What if they don't do anything for a while, like a year or so?"
"I've been an idiot!" A said suddenly, causing Siegfried and Katrina to gasp in confuse***t.
"That bump on my head must be messing with my head..."
"What is it?" Siegfried asked.

As if a disease was being spread, Katrina cried out in frustration as well.
"Remember when I tried to ban your account Siegfried?" Katrina murmured. It then became very clear to Siegfried what they'd all neglected to try. Now there was no longer any need to go on a hunt that could potentially cause the deaths of many.
All they'd have to do was try and ban the accounts of the three suspects.
************************************************************************************
Adrian couldn't have seen it coming. There was no way he could have known that his enemies would find him so easily. But he was always prepared.
After he had killed Wide Eyes he'd done a lot of thinking. He pondered over all the people he'd killed, all the ways he'd killed them and who had seen it happen. He then considered what information the police would have on him.
He got nowhere. He had absolutely no idea what anyone knew, how many other people were infected, how guilty or innocent he looked or even if his existence was known the the world of Runescape.
So he would keep killing. Minigames, skilling, training, all were insignificant now. His *ust for revenge was far too great, he'd been bullied too much for him to just let it go.
So in the two days after Wide Eyes death, he'd kept killing, but would have a different death for each person he killed, so as to not rouse suspicion.
It was all he did.
It was all he would ever do.
He killed twelve people in one day, five in the next. It was by then that A had leaped back into the world of Runescape and vowed to stop it, once and for all.
The short meeting that took place between the three investigators quickly turned into a frantic and dramatic revelation. Before long, Adrian was uncovered.
It wouldn't be long now.
