“Let’s play some games,” suggested Mike. Mac nodded and went through a door. I frowned and followed. 2 Marble Blocks of Stone stood at the back.
“I challenge you, Stephen, to a game of block destroying,” challenged Mac.
“Me?” Stephen gasped, but walked over to a marble block and raised his sword. Mac yelled, “3! 2! 1! Go!” Stephen swiped fiercely at the block of marble, but Mac won by a landslide, sneering with victory.
“Something seems wrong here,” spat Stephen. Mac turned to Cameron.
“How about you, my friend? You seem to be a good archer. Want to range?” Mac asked him. Cameron backed away.
“No. I’d rather not,” he shuffled his feet.
“I won’t take no for an answer,” Mac said sternly and pulled the ranger forward. Cameron gulped, raised his bow, and waited for Mac’s signal. Instantly, the duo shot arrows at a red, black, and blue archery target. At last, the arrows ran out. Cameron had hit the bull’s-eye all but one time. But Mac had gotten 100 %.
“Too bad,” grinned Mac and then turned over to Mike. At last, Mac turned to me.
“Let’s play jester,” he smiled. I nodded, determined to finally beat this slimy man. I followed Mac past a gold chest to a stone ring.
“On!” Mac yelled and a jester in bright clothing appeared, grinning brightly.
“Copy his jesters. Whoever fails loses,” Mac explained. I nodded. The jester raised his leg. I raised mine. Mac did the same. Next, the jester did a little jig. We struggled to follow the jester’s gestures and orders and dances, but we survived for a very long time. Stephen watched intensely, his fingers crossed. I bowed. Mac bowed. I danced. Mac danced. I cried. Mac cried. I leaped for joy. Mac danced. There was a crack as the jester laughed, “Mac, you lose,” before disappearing. Mac swore angrily and kicked the wall. I grinned at the man's childish upset.
“Good job,” Clare congratulated silently.
“I actually beat him,” I whispered.

“Moving on,” Mac hissed and led us into the next room. We passed through an odd, spiked arena with a rack full of gold swords and a family crest on the wall. The next room was the study. Inside was a large orrey, where planets moved at high speed. A mahogany demon lectern lay in a corner. A Crystal Ball of Power hovered above its gold pedestal in the center of the room. But we left the study quickly.
“He’s definitely in a hurry,” Cameron shuddered. We passed through a costume room with a trunk for costumes, an armory for armor, and a rack for capes even faster. At last, we stopped in a portal room. It contained three marble portals, each swirling mystically. One was purple, one was silver, and one was red. An odd scrying pool stood in the center.
“Please, we must move on to the most important room in the house,” moaned Mac, angry at his loss.
“This is cool,” Mike said happily. We entered a magnificent room. It was the throne room. The floor was polished wood, for the most, but the center was glittering silver. Two red demonic thrones stood at the front of the room, red and imposing. Mac sat in one, smirking. Clare glared at him and I couldn’t help feeling disgusted by the man, perched on the throne as if he were ruler of all he surveyed. A mahogany lever was by the portal, but none of us knew what it meant.
“I wonder...,” I murmured to myself. Some gold-gilded benches lay at the perimeter, but Cameron and Mike were intrigued by the strange silver floor. A kite-shield with a hound was situated above the thrones.
“Do you like it?” Mac asked.
“Certainly,” Mike said, impressed.

*It’s good quality,” muttered Cameron, still examining the floor. I grinned at them, and then stopped. I felt woozy, disorientated. My surroundings seemed blurry. Suddenly, my throat started to clog up. I felt weak, very weak. All of a sudden, I collapsed on the silver floor.

“Agh!” Clare screamed as Stephen and John collapsed on the floor.

Mac sat upright in alarm.

“What happened to them?” yelped Mike.
“I have no clue!” Mac gasped. The girl stepped up to examine her brother’s limp body in vain. Mac grinned evilly and Cameron stood up instantly.
“Get off the platform,” he ordered. It was too late. Mac had pulled the lever and there was a whir as a purple magic dome enclosed on them. Mike gasped in horror and rammed into the cage. But they were efficiently locked in. Mac looked at them triumphantly.
“You lied!” Mike yelled.
“Haven’t you figured it out?” Mac asked terribly.
“I have,” Cameron hissed.
*You have?” Clare whispered, still hovering nervously above John and Stephen’s bodies.
“Yes. I first realized it when I saw how clean your house was. You’re gone all the time, so I thought how it could have been done. First, I thought it was just the butler, but then I realized he was strictly paid to cook only. Then, when I looked around to see all your feats of slaying, mining, fishing, and more, I found out you never did any of it. You wanted trophies, you wanted gold, you wanted valuables, and you wanted fame, so you decided to do some hostage work. The demon butler and you lured people in for secret parties, but they were never known. You then took them to the trophy room and captured them, enslaving them. You then took them to the one room of the house you haven’t shown us. I counted the rooms and there should be one more. You locked your hostages there and forced them to do your bidding. But you never did any great feats. You just faked them,” spat Cameron.
“Bravo,” Mac said silently.
“But what about John and Stephen?” Clare asked, scared.

“The games room…Why else would you ask us to play? The jester…there must have been some sort of curse on it. Also, I noticed that the marble block Stephen was training on seemed different. You drugged them with some odd magic because they were the biggest threats.

Then you fooled the rest of us and captured us. And now you’ll force us to work forever,” Cameron told them.

“You’re right about all but one thing. All but one of you will work. The girl…Clare will serve a different purpose. She’ll see the life ahead of her soon,” Mac whispered. Suddenly, there was a plop as the platform Clare was standing on gave away.
“What the?” Mike gasped as the girl fell down a chute and landed with a thump in a tight cage. The platform closed, leaving the young woman locked below.
“You’re vile,” hissed Cameron.

“You two enjoy working together, because you’ll never stop,” announced Mac.
“Two of us? What about Stephen and John?” asked Mike.
“Oh, they won’t work. They won’t even live,” cackled Mac. Mike dived for the two bodies, but wasn’t quick enough. The second platform opened and the two bodies fell down a large hole into the dungeon. The platform then closed.
“No!* Mike yelled, kicking the platform.
“It is no use. It is time for you two to go to Falador for some work,” Mac snarled. He then clapped his hands and the demon butler appeared. The magic cage evaporated and the demon shoved the two out of the room. They entered the portal room and were pushed into one of the portals. The demon then followed.

Clare was in the oubliette. She shuddered at the tons of fiery candles burning around her, making her sweat. The flames exuding from the candles started to sicken her. A gigantic hellhound, ferocious and blood red, stood in the middle of the flames, unhurt. She rattled the bars of the bone cage, disgusted by Mac, yet horrified for her life. Clare thought hardly, thinking of a way to escape. She glanced up at the top of the cage and saw a weak point.
She began climbing the grotesque cage and finally made it to the top. She examined a small bone holding the whole cage together. She punched it with great power and screamed as the whole cage fell apart.

She landed with a thump on the ground and gasped as the hellhound lunged. Clare leaped in the air and grabbed onto a piece of cage that was still intact. She had been a fool to break the cage. What would she do? How long would she hang there?

I was dizzy, I was hot, and I was exhausted. Where was I? Sight drained into me and I could see a stone ceiling. I tried to move, but found I couldn’t. As the drug wore off, I started to hear Stephen’s groans. Then, I could slowly move my lips and talk.
“Stephen?” I whispered.
“What happened?” my friend asked.
“No clue,” I muttered. I raised my head, then slowly got to my feet and grabbed my sword. I helped Stephen up and discovered we were in a small room.
“Oh no!* Stephen gasped.
“We’re in the dungeon,” I realized. A marble door stood in front of us. I passed streaks of blood and a gross hanging skeleton and heaved against the door.
“I’m too weak,” I grunted.
“Let me try,” Stephen mumbled and pushed against the door. It swung open. We tentatively wandered down a hall, wondering what we’d meet.
“Agh!” Stephen cried and he toppled to the floor. I winced with empathy at a gruesome trap that had emerged from the dust, spikes plowing into my friend’s leg. I struggled to pull his ankle out and finally succeeded. Blood poured onto the stone floor. I helped my friend up and helped him past the trap. Suddenly, there was a growl. A Guard Dog stood in front of us, growling and snarling. I raised my sword and slashed its muzzle before running past it into a junction. I yelped as spikes zipped out of the wall, inches above my head. There was a roar as a troll lumbered in, swinging a small trunk. I dodged the tree as it smashed into the wall. I stabbed the gargantuan beast in the thigh and hurried down another hall, Stephen supported on my shoulder. At last, we rushed to a marble door.
“Ah! Hurry!” Stephen groaned as I pushed against the marble door.

There was a screech and to my horror, I saw a large spider scuttling towards us. Now what?

Mike and Cameron emerged into a dark alley, the demon right behind them. Cameron gulped, glaring at the devious beast. From the white stone of the buildings around them, it certainly was Falador. They were in one of the backstreets, where no civilians could hear or notice them. It snarled and led the two of them around a corner into the mining guild. They went down a ladder into the restricted part of the Dwarven Mines, a large chain of tunnels propertied by the dwarves rich with ore.
“You mine and you don’t stop,” the demon said shortly and disappeared. The friends stared at each other tentatively. The tunnel was drab and earthy, the filthy walls filled with sprinkling rich ore. Mike understood why the evil tycoon desired this.
“This is horrible!” Cameron groaned, sighing and leaning against the wall, staring at the steps from where Alathazdrar disappeared to.
“And it’s my fault. I should’ve listened to your premonitions,” Mike groaned, miserably picking up the grimy pickaxe on the floor.
“We should get a move on. I don’t want to know how Mac punishes slacking slaves,” Cameron moaned and, with a grunt, brought his axe down in an arc, shattering some rock. But Mike, however, froze, his mind deep at work.

“What?” Cameron inquired.
“We’re free to go! No one’s watching us! The stupid butler just left! We’re in the Dwarven Mines! We can head over to the other exit, far north! I’ll bet the dwarves’ll help us, I know they don’t like business in their mines!” Mike said eagerly. Cameron sighed suspiciously.
“It seems too easy. Mac isn’t an idiot,” he murmured.
“But that doesn’t mean Ala-whatever isn’t!” Mike blubbered, trying to remember the villainous butler’s name.
“And what about John and Stephen and his sister, uh, Clare?” Cameron urged.

“Well, we’re not going to save them mining!” Mike scoffed, confused why his friend did*’t see the logic.

“Fine. Try walking down the tunnel,” Cameron said, almost indicating a dare. Mike nodded simply and strode forward. This was so easy! How could Mac be so dumb? But then, just as the warrior crossed through an archway, an excruciating pain spread through his leg! Mike screamed, collapsing and rolling away from the hellish arch, clutching his thigh, which felt as if scalded! There was a sudden eerie cackle and Mike recognized it as Mac’s.
“You did*’t think I would let you mine freely, you ignorant fool! While you were playing your little games in the party room, I managed to cast a curse. You can’t leave these mines. Ever. At least until Alathazdrar returns to escort you back to prison!” Mac cackled.

“I told you,” Cameron sighed, approaching his injured friend, who was crouched in a fetal position in the dirt. Mike hissed with frustration and scrambled to his feet, wiping the dust off his shirt and touching his leg tenderly.
“Then what do you suggest we do?” the warrior said bitterly. The archer shrugged with defeat and leaned against the wall.
“It looks like Mac is watching us somehow. We’d better start working,” Cameron muttered and returned to picking wildly at the wall. But Mike stood standing with grim startle.
“So that’s it. Just give up!” Mike said furiously. Cameron glared at him.
“I’m not giving up. Just work so we don’t die and we can concoct a plot together in the meanwhile!” he spat. Mike sighed and nodded before picking up his axe and started chopping away at the coal. Could this ever end?

Fear ran down my spine. The spider was wild and massive, with large bulging hairy legs and eight dark eyes with furious red pupils.

It scuttled menacingly towards us. I panted, all my energy depleting. I couldn’t take this! Stephen’s eyes closed with exhaustion. I should just give up myself, I thought. But then, a sudden fierceness spread within me at the thought of poor…Clare…and whatever Mac had planned for her and exhausted Mike and Cameron, enslaved! And with that, as the deadly spider lunged, its jaws snapping, I thrust my sword upward and watched it rip through the tender carcass. It was all over. My heart was beating wildly before I faced the massive marble door. I had to push it down! But how? Sighing, I gathered all my strength after seconds of labored breathing. Stephen seemed to be further in pain, fringing and groaning.
I then rampaged into the wall, all my muscles seizing with the goal to push it down! My arms were on fire, my shoulder perhaps fractured, but I ignored the pain. I shut my eyes, pushing as hard as possible! I couldn’t do it! No, I have to! And then came the satisfying crack and I collapsed to the ground, Stephen with me. The door had given way. Like a mighty oak, the marble collapsed, shattering to large pieces on the floor. Stephen and I stared at each other, the former clutching his wound, and I laughed feebly. I’d done it! Suddenly, Stephen’s eyes went wide; his mouth thrust open in an inaudible gasp. What?
I then followed his gaze through the broken archway, into the one exit from Mac’s dungeon. A large magical purple treasure chest was on a pedestal surrounded by everlasting flames. Gruesome bloody torches and hanging skeletons littered the stone walls. But that wasn’t what Stephen was looking at. What frightened the injured warrior set the hairs on my neck stiff. A massive formidable immense dragon awaited in the treasure room, complete with hundreds of impenetrable steel plates!

Its slanted devious head was complete with vicious red eyes and, as it opened its mouth in a furious roar that thrust us backward, I saw the dagger-like teeth that would mean the end of us.

Clare’s muscles were on fire as she groped the dusty ceiling overhead for the slightest way to break back into the trophy room! The hellhound leapt from the flames, its jaws snapping fiercely. The girl swung her legs barely out of the monster’s reach. But she knew she couldn’t hold on for a minute longer! There had to be a way out of this hellhole. And then Clare saw it! The hundreds of fiery candles surrounding the remnants of the bone cage…
Summoning all of her power, Clare breathed. She then let go and landed with a crash on the vicious hellhound, her feet almost breaking the beast’s neck. Clare then leapt to her feet and quickly thrust up one of the flaming candles, gripping it carefully to not get burnt. The hellhound, however, recovered with fascinating speed and then leapt! Clare yelped and ducked and the hound landed with a yip in the candles. It had no effect, however! But Clare had what she needed! She leapt high and once more clutched the bone, which now seemed weakened. Would it hold?
Clare jabbed the candle at the hinges of the trapdoor above, slicing fiercely! The flames at last started to melt the metal! It was working! The hellhound rampaged back, leaping further then before! She had to hurry! Finally, there was a swish and the trapdoor fell. The heavy metal landed with a crash on the hellhound, crushing it instantly. But then the bone cracked. Clare screamed as she fell away from the sliver of hope that had been thrust from her. But then, a cold hand grasped her wrist and hoisted her into the trophy room. Clare sighed, her eyes closed with fear. She then opened them, prepared to greet her savior and instead met the soulless gaze of Mac, who smirked malevolently.
“Hello, my dear,” he said lowly.

Clare gasped, her eyes wide, and then turned on her heels and sprinted towards the exit! But with a snap of the finger, the magical barrier returned and the woman was trapped once more.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing? You-you monster!” Clare hissed, twisting around to meet the vile Mac, who just laughed mirthlessly.
*That won’t do, Clare. I can’t have such anger in my abode,” Mac murmured, striding the perimeter of the barrier like a wild cat surrounding its prey.
“What are you talking about?” Clare spat. Mac laughed once more and it sent shivers down her spine.

“You’re lucky because you’re beautiful. Your friends shall work in slavery for the end of their days. But among all my slaves, I’ve never found love. But that’s over now, Clare. You’ll now be the most powerful woman alive!” he shouted. Clare’s mouth was open wide with repulsion.
“Well, you’ll have to kill me, because I’d poison myself rather then love you!” Clare howled, stepping as far away from the tyrannical man as possible in her cage.
“You’ll learn. Education through labor, Clare. Education through labor,”

“Stay here,” I said lowly, not daring to move. Perhaps the dragon hadn’t spotted us yet? Stephen, however, attempted to sit up, but I gently pushed him back.
“I have to help,” he groaned from the dirt.

“No. You’re dying!” I whispered before gulping and taking my friend’s stronger scimitar. The steel dragon remained in its prison, almost waiting. It seemed far more intelligent then the spider or the troll. It would be an impossible foe to defeat! But I had to destroy it! And with a sigh, I lifted up the scimitar and entered the treasure room. As if bound by a spell, the dragon let out a massive torrent of vicious firebreath and I yelped at the sudden reflex and dodged. I grimaced as scalding heat grazed my shoulder before I leapt back up, bringing my scimitar down in an arc on the steel dragon’s shoulder!
