Chapter Ten
Rebirth and Death
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jessica sat back with a blank look on her face. Tyron's initial poisoning had not been too greatly disastrous, but the poison had spread throughout his body, which made it horribly difficult to purge. She had, however, succeded, and now Tyron was sleeping peacefully on the floor of Caltha's treehouse.
Jessica had been able to forget, at least for a little while while she worked, about the events of the past night. Now it all came rushing back to her: the fight, Willow's death, Caltha's kidnapping, and Termac finding her on her knees in the mud, sobbing with despair and fear and frustration.
She remembered the way Willow's body had disappeared, falling apart into a shower of stardust.
Almost like the way Drakos had.
Willow opened her eyes.
Her newly reformed body sat up in the early morning air. She looked around at the place where she had died not long ago. It was so strange... she had died, yet here she was, awake and alive.
With blood all around her.
She shuddered, but managed to calm herself down. She had been in bloodier situations than this, after all. But it seemed like she could feel the death that had recently took place in the air, and it sickened her.
She stood up shakily and lurched forward. She felt nauseous, her throat dry and parched, her tongue swollen.
Apparently resurrection wasn't a seamless process.
She staggered around a demon corpse in search of an untainted stream. As she walked, she began to feel better, and finally found a stream with water unclouded by blood.
She bent down to drink, then gasped as she saw her reflection in the water.
Her face had changed dramatically. Her eyes, once a deep shade of green, were now silver. As she watched, they faded back to green as she stared in shock. Her face had once radiated a sort of gentle beauty, but now her face seemed harder, a sharper, wilder sort of beauty.
She was beautiful.
She was terrifying.
