Chapter Seven
Vengeance (continued)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A tear had begun to roll down Caltha's cheek. Willow's heart instantly melted for the little girl. She reached over and hugged Caltha tightly, letting her cry.
"I just... I don't know what happened to me. I want to remember, but I can't... All I can remember is my name... Nothing else... And I know I'll never belong. Because I don't know who I am or who my parents were!"
Willow felt like she had been stabbed through the heart. She drew back and looked into Caltha's deep brown eyes.
"I never knew my father either."
Over the next few days, Willow and Jessica had seemingly taken it upon themselves to train Caltha. Termac made the little girl a small bow, and Jessica had begun teaching her how to use it.
"Hold your bow in your weaker hand and nock an arrow to the string. Now draw the string back with your other hand, aim, and fire!"
The arrow stuck into the second ring of the makeshift target. A fair shot. Especially for the first time she'd ever held a bow.
The next day, Willow showed Caltha how to throw a knife.
"Grip it by the blade like that... Good. Now once you've got a good grip on it, pull your arm back and throw as hard as you can. It might not get a good solid hold in the tree the first time, but after some practice, you'll be able to--"
She was cut off as the knife flew from Caltha's hand and thudded into the direct center of the target.
Willow was nonplussed. "Show me that again," she told Caltha, handing her another knife.
Again, the girl hit the target dead center. When Willow stuck a leaf to the tree with pine sap, Caltha pinned it to the trunk.
"How did you do that?" Willow asked, her eyes wide.
Caltha looked at her innocently. "Lucky shot?"
