Chapter Four
The Void
~~~~~~~~
It had been several hours since Drakos had left Falador in his rage, flying off toward the ruins of Varrock. Until now, though, several hours later, they had not been convinced he was not simply lying in wait for them.
"Is he gone?" Willow called softly up to Jessica, who was perched in a tree, looking out.
"I don't see him anywhere," she replied, now speaking normally as she swung down from the tree. "He'll have reached Varrock by now, though, at the rate he flies."
"That's a good thing," said Tyron. "The farther away he is from here, the better."
The party had hidden in the woodlands at the foot of White Wolf Mountain; it was especially helpful because of the thick canopy of trees over some parts of it, concealing them from aerial view.
A twig snapped, breaking the calm that had settled over all of them. They all turned quickly to see several men emerging from the trees. Some held swords, and several others held bows that were drawn and aimed straight at the companions.
"Bandits!" whispered Ace.
"Yes, we are," said one, apparently the leader. He was a musclebound brute with a chipped cutlass in his hand. "Don't even think about runnin', 'cause we got'cha surrounded."
True to his word, around twenty other men stepped out from the cover of the trees to cut off any escape they might have attempted to make.
Chazz immediately jerked his sword from his belt and stepped forward, only to jump back as an arrow embedded itself into the ground where he had just been standing.
"Don't think 'bout attackin', neither," laughed the bandit leader. "Now why don't y'all just drop them fancy swords right here on the ground, or we'll stick ya so bad, you'll look like walkin' pincushions."
With a murderous look on his face, Chazz dropped his sabre on the ground. Tyron, Termac, Iolous, Ace, Jessica, and Willow did the same.
"Well, now!" exclaimed the bandit when he saw Smyte. "Innit that-" he was cut off as an unearthly scream rent the air.
