Chapter Nine
The Darkness and the Light
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fire suddenly dimmed low enough to step over as Caltha began shrieking, "No, Willow! You can't!"
Drakos shoved Caltha over toward Jessica and Willow, who caught her as she stumbled.
He indicated the elf and the little girl with a nod of his head. "Retrieve your bow and get out of here before I change my mind."
Caltha stubbornly hung on to Willow. "No!"
Drakos stared at her, his dark eyes glimmering malevolently in the firelight. "Do as I say, or I may have to go back on my promise."
Caltha's eyes were wide with fright, but still she held on until Willow knelt down and hugged her.
"Run as fast as you can," Willow whispered. "Don't stop, and don't look back. I'll be fine."
Drakos's bored voice cut through. "If you're QUITE finished with your tearful goodbyes..."
She stood up and nudged Caltha over toward Jessica, a hardness in her eyes. "Jessica, take care of her. Now go find Tyron and save him. You're the only one who can. And tell him I love him."
"YOU HAVE FIVE SECONDS TO BE OUT OF MY SIGHT BEFORE I KILL YOU BOTH!" bellowed Drakos.
"Go!" shouted Willow, choking up a bit.
Suddenly a voice called out in the distance.
"Jessicaaaa! Oh, Zamorak, where are you, Jessicaaa? We need you!"
Jessica turned in the direction of the voice when suddenly the fire flared up again.
"Well, he's not dead yet?" Drakos muttered under his breath. "He's stronger than I thought. But on the off chance that you make it back in time, I think I had better wait to let you go until that boy is dead."
He turned back to Willow, grinning again. "Unfortunately, although I promised I would let THESE two live, I said nothing about your OTHER friends."
He stepped through the flames in the direction of the shout and disappeared.
