<Two Years Earlier...>
Ermine paused.
She stood at the threshold between life and death. Peace and war. She stood on the blanket of ash and blood, and looked beyond at a land where people slept with both eyes closed.
She was hesitating.
~You must.~
“I know,” she muttered.
~It is necessary.~
“I know.”
~It will bring a better day for both of us. We must go to this “Grand Exchange” you've told me of and find men who can help me.~
“I know.” Ermine stroked the orb. “I'm going to do my best. I just...” She eyed the other side of the wall with fear.
It was, unfortunately for her, a busy day in Edgeville. A band of merchants had just arrived from Rellekka, and folk were hurrying toward the town square to look at the 'exotic' goods.
She didn't know that, of course. All she knew was that there were a lot of people to get through to help her new friend.
~It will be good for you. You should be with your kind while you can.~
Ermine nodded mutely, not quite registering what he said. She took a deep breath, a step forward...
...and hopped over the wall.
She paused to collect herself. Skirting around the edges of civilization, she made her way to the river Lum.
~Do not worry, Ermine. We will be safe in Varrock. I promise you.~
There was a long silence in the caverns. Sir Apiro tried and failed to appreciate it.
“You...” Sir Kamvent hissed. *Old...crazy...gah!” He took a deep breath.
Sir Apiro winced, predicting a rant—a shouted rant—to ensue. But Kamvent spoke quietly. “That did not have ANY relevance, AT ALL, to my question. That was basic chinchomping HISTORY.”
Urhney shrugged. “Deny it all you want...”
“I'm not--*
Captain Vility nodded. “Sir Kamvent is right, actually. That wasn't relevant.”
“It was, if you consider the subtext.”
The captain raised an eyebrow. “Really.”
“Oh, yes. You see...”
Sir Apiro waved his knife between the two. “Look. I do not CARE. Just shut up and let me concentrate on getting us out of here.”
