The very essence of the planet we all stand on swirling and tugging as the invisible wisps rush past my face. Like the thoughts and ideas spinning through my head at any given moment in time.
I tried to join the military when I realized that my eight years of college didn't give me the education or advantage I needed. Plus two hundred and fifty thousand dollars is hard to pay off, even with that piece of paper stating that I knew enough aerodynamic and biochemical engineering from the greatest minds alive to get a job anywhere in the country. No matter where I went with my suit and tie and
briefcase, no company would even give me the courtesy of returning my calls. Then I applied for a spot in the Naval Academy. I knew, just KNEW, that they wouldn't turn me away. They needed bright young minds to convert into the officers of tomorrow. I stepped into that bright office, with the pictures of old, decommissioned boats and a big flag posted on the wall.
They took one look at each other.
Then they turned me away. No questions...no answers.
I simply walked back out of the building that day. Simply too dazed to even argue. Then the man with the dark suit seemingly materialized out of nowhere, handed me a card with a phone number on it, and disappeared as quickly as he had appeared.
One phone call and twelve years later, I have broken through. The lock has given way and as the key slips from my fingers to the ground between my feet, I am ready to step through the gate...and I will bring the whole world with me. For the betterment of all.
But those who funded and those who helped me achieve my goal of a united globe silently slid the key into their breastpocket, as I willed myself to take that first step. When I realized their intentions, I was already being hauled away. Dragged from my plans and my Utopia. Dragged helplessly as the new keyholders conspired upon the corruption of the devices from my mind.
