§§§Chapter5 - Blaze§§§

~~Three days later~~~

Flare had barely stopped running ever since he broke out. He had not eaten, and his clothes were nearly destroyed. On the end of the third day, he he had finally reached the great walls of Falador. He stumbled into the city, and soon realized he had no money. He chuckled and barreled into the local bar. The drunk citizens of Falador watched him fall in, and immediately helped him up. The bartender walked over and helped him to a seat.

"What's your name, son?" The bartender asked with an accent.

"My-my name is Flare" Flare replied in an innocent voice, trying to scam a free meal.

"Where are your parents?" the Bartender continued.

"Kinoob, but she shipped me way out here. She doesn't want me" Flare lied, even though it was partly true.

"Well, I'll give you a nice meal and a room for the night" The bartender offered. "Come with me."

Flare nodded and followed him into the back room. The bartender motioned Flare in, and jumped out of the room, locking the door behind him. "What are you doing!?!" Flare roared.

"I'm keeping you here until your bounty hunters arrive" the bartender laughed.

"What!?!" Flare screamed in fear, then quickly realized that the mages had already beaten him here. "Please, I'll do anything you want!" Flare begged.

"Nope. They're paying a lot of money for you. So I'm not just gonna give you up that-" and then there was a thud. Flare waited a few moments, and heard a roar and the bartender scream. Smoke filtered under the door, and it soo opened.

On the other side, the same robed man that had freed him was standing there. Flare didn't even look at him, and started running. The old man grabbed him by the neck and pulled him close, muttering a teleportation spell.

The blinding white walls of Falador quickly turned into trees and dirt. Flare looked around to see where he was, but did not recognize the location. "I am sure you have numerous questions." The mage predicted.

"Yah..." Flare said, staring into space. "Who are you!?! Where are we!?! And what the hell is going on!?!"

The old mage sighed. "My name is Blaze. I am a fire mage, an ancient form of magic that only uses fire in fights." Blaze answered. "We're where no one will find us. These plains are unknown to the common man. And lastly, you are an interesting person. You have a control of heat, even without any magical abilities."

"That still doesn't answer my last question" Flare complained.

"I am among the last of my kind, and when you were captured, I was able to sense it. I knew that you had no training or knowledge about what you can do, so I knew I had to teach you."

"So..you expect me to do what you say? And respect you?" Flare asked in disbelief.

"Believe me" Blaze scowled, creating a fireball in his hand. "If you want to live those mages, and learn how to do this. Then you will do everything and anything I say"

Flare stared at the glowing ball of fire, then thought about the two mages, which he hated greatly. He turned to Blaze, and nodded.

§§§Chapter6 - Hunter§§

"You let him get away!?!" Gerråha screamed at the Falador bartender. "I payed you to keep him there, not let him go!"

"Do you even see me!?!" The bartender screamed, pointing at his burns. "Some other guy came and saved him. There was nothing I could do!" Gerråha snapped, and pulled out a small black knife. The bartender took a step back, before the knife was driven into his rib cage.

Gerråha flinched as the entire bar began screaming in fear, they had witnessed the murder. All the men in the bar threw down there beers and grabbed anything lethal. They inched towards Gerråha, motioning for him to surrender. Gerråha snapped, and the doors to the bar blew open.

A woman screamed, but was soon silenced by the heavily armored bounty hunter that walked into the room. She wore thick black pants, and a long sleeved black leather shirt. Her cape reached the back of her knees, and wrapped around her shoulders. She had fingerless gloves, and high heeled boots. Her lips were pitch black, along with her hair and eyes. She carried a rigid sword on her belt, and massive club in her left hand.

"Now, if you'll excuse me. I have an experiment to catch" Gerråha blankly stated and walked past his bounty hunter, motioning for her to kill. She swung her club, and the last thing Gerråha heard from the bar was a smash.

"Well?" Yuhef asked just as Gerråha opened the enormous doors of there tower.

"We're no closer than we were before." Gerråha angrily answered. "So I decided to put Salina in charge of the hunt."

"What!?!" Yuhef stuttered. "I thought you weren't going to hire her again, especially after the last time!"

"Desperate times call for desperate measures. And I will not let the boy's selfishness be the end of humanity." Gerråha scowled.

"You know, there might be a better way to do this." Yuhef gulped, fearing the consequences of what he just said.

"You're probably right" Gerråha answered, showing no anger towards Yuhef. "But he's to stubborn. He'll never listen and obey."

"Alright" Yuhef concluded. "Now what do we do?"

"I want you to try and discover who attacked us. If we find him, we find him, we find Flare." Gerråha answered.

Salina grabbed a rag from the bartenders shelf, and wiped off her club. She looked around the room, seeing only her fallen victim. She smiled at the thought of how much they must have suffered, then moved outside.

It was warm out, and things were slow. She took a scroll out of her back pocket and examined it. On it was a picture of Flare, and the man that freed him. At the bottom was a reminder of how much the mages were willing to pay for Flare's recapture: 2 billion gold pieces. She put the scroll away and set towards the southern gate.

She grew closer, and noticed that the entrance was blocked by a group of white knights. They were trying to block her in. She laughed to herself, and muttered a spell. Instantly her form changed to a young, beautiful, woman in a long flowing dress. She walked up to the knights, and they let her out. She reached the end of the road, and looked to make sure no one was around.

She muttered another spell, and her form changed from human to hawk, and she flew off; looking for any sign of her prey.

§§§Chapter7 - The unknown§§§

Fire spun in the air, and moved as if it was controlled. Blaze retracted the fire, and shot a more lethal blast in another direction. Flare watched closely at the technique, hoping to figure out these abilities. "Alright" Blaze panted. "You try."

Flare jumped to his feet and took in a deep breath. He mimicked Blaze's form exactly and went to release his first blast of flames. He was once again disappointed to find that only smoke had released from his fingertips. "Gah!" Flare roared. "Why am I only firing black air!?! Where's the fire!?!"

"Stop yelling" Blaze commanded. "You have not yet succeeded because you have no passion. Fire is misjudged as pain and death. But it is not."

"I don't want passion, I want to shoot fire out of my fingertips!" Flare complained.

"Without it, you will never master your abilities!" Blaze snapped. "And if you refuse to do what is required, then how can I teach you!?!"

Flare was about to snap back, but stopped. He sighed and once again tried to create fire. And once again, he failed. "God dammit!" Flare screamed, and blew smoke out his nostrils.

Blaze grabbed Flare by the neck and pulled him close. "Listen, I don't care about your personal life. I don't care what hardships you've gone through, or if you're frustrated." Blaze scowled. "You will do one hundred percent, everything I say. Or I will send you back to those mages. Nothing is stopping me."

Flare pushed Blaze's hand away, and went to sit on a rock. Blaze stared him down, and then went into his tent which they had set up the previous day. "He'd better cool down, or 'he' will be after us." Blaze sighed to himself.

A lone elf traveler wandered into the wilderness. He emerged two days later, in an unknown location. All he recognized, was a mysterious black river which had been fabled about in his home town. He inched towards it, and threw a stick in. He knew it was real.

His heart raced, and he began to log the information. He heard a bubbling sound, and looked away from his notepad. The river was making the sound, and something was rising out. A black goop emerged out of the river, and stuck to the earth.

It strained, and pulled out more of itself. When the goop had finally reached the surface completely, it began to change form, into a human shape. The elf backed away, and began to run. The Shadow beast chuckled evilly to itself, and burst off after the innocent elf.

The elf kept running, hoping to find its way out of the forest. He could hear his attacker following his in the bushes, and he pushed on. He reached a dead end, and pulled out his crystal bow, ready to defend himself.

He looked around, and the beast was not there. He put the bow down, and began walking out of the clearing he had reached. He heard a thud behind him, and before he could move, he was consumed by a blast of black fire.

"Never run, from what you can't escape" the beast hissed and the burning corpse of the elf. "Now, for the real prize."

§§§Chapter8 - Information§§§

"You here about that rogue experiment boy?" A drunk man in the blue moon inn asked his buddy, who was also drunk.

"Yah, here he's pretty hot." The mans buddy answered.

"Dude!" The first man coughed, in shock.

"I mean hot-headed, and fiery" his buddy hiccuped.

***

Salina landed on a string connecting the bar, and the local clothing store. She discretely eavesdropped on the conversation between the two drunk men. They knew something about her target, and she wouldn't stand for not knowing what it was.

She flew to the ground, and changed into the form of a waitress. She walked in and approached the men. "Can I get you anything else?" She asked.

"Beer, what else?" The first man laughed, then continued talking to his buddy about Flare.

"What you talking about?" Salina asked, growing close to the information.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" The buddy chuckled.

"Actually, I would." Salina growled.

"How about you and I head upstairs, and then we'll talk about it" the first man attempted.

Salina growled, and responded "alright." She followed him upstairs, and he locked the door closed behind them. He turned towards the bed, then heard a crash. He spun around and saw a heavily armored, threatening woman holding a sword to his neck.

"Give me the information now, and I won't be forced to tear you an extra mouth." She threatened.

***

Blaze woke early the next morning, and found Flare outside, still trying to create a blast of fire. "Passion" Blaze mocked.

Flare sighed deep, releasing a strong blast off smoke. "I've been up all night, and all I learned was how to control blasts of smoke!"

"Well, then it looks like you have another problem keeping you from burning." Blaze examined.

"Like what?" Flare asked, hoping to get to the bottom of this.

"You haven't had your spark" Blaze sighed.

"My spark?" Flare asked. "What the hell is 'my spark'?"

"Fire is like people. It is threatening, and dangerous. But it is also life

Like fire, we humans don't just pop out of thin air. We need something to start us. And you just haven't started whatever it is that will ignite your 'spark'." Blaze informed.

"Ok... how do I start it then?" Flare asked, desperate to finish this 'stupid training'.

"It will start in time" Blaze answered. "Until then, I might as well teach you the basics of controlling it."

"How can I learn to control it, if I can't make it?" Flare mocked.

"Alright then. Think of these as 'tips and tricks'. The first thing you need to know are your timezones." Blaze began. "Your power is fueled by the sun, by natural heat. You will only be able to use it during the day."

"Ok" Flare listened, taking note of the facts he was being given.

"At noon, the hottest point in the day, you will be able to hold your fire longer than any other time in the day. And your fire will be at it strongest at the very start of sunlight. Dawn, when the first rays of the sun appear."

"Wait, why then?" Flare asked, baffled as to how tht could be possible.

"It is the ignition of your power. Fire is like humans, but at the same time, opposite. It starts strong and spreads, we start weak and grow. Dawn is your strongest period of fire in the day."

Flare nodded, and continued listening to what Blaze had to say. One phrase stuck in his head especially: "Fire is not anger, it is not hate. It is life."

"Anything?" Yuhef asked Gerråha, in hope of an update on the situation.

"I just told Salina to return with an update. She should be here within minutes." Gerråha answered, without looking at Yuhef.

"So, what shall I do, master?" Yuhef asked, hoping for a task.

"Actually, I have a special task for you. We're in danger, the boy is in danger." Gerråha informed Yuhef.

"How so? What's going on?" Yuhef asked, worry in his voice.

"You've heard the legends of dark beasts. How they're exactly like a person. Well, the boy is about to meet his." Gerråha sighed.

"No more need be said" Yuhef interrupted.

"You wish for me to stall this beast until we can retrieve the boy ourselves."

"Very good" Gerråha chuckled. "Now get on it, we're on a time table. The way I see it, two days until the beast finds the boy, and a month before the attack."

"I'll have stopped the beast before the night is over" Yuhef confidently remarked, and teleported away. Seconds later, Gerråha heard the doors to the tower smash shut.

"Ah, she's arrived" Gerråha grinned to himself.
