There came a knock at Zaros's door. "Who's there?" Zaros called.
"Spyridon," came the gruff voice of Zaros's man.
"Enter."
Spyridon opened the door and stuck his head inside. "My Lord, I'm sorry to disturb you. However, there is something that you need to see."
Zaros groaned and got off his cot. "Take me, then."
Spyridon led Zaros down the corridor outside, and Zaros noticed that they were heading down toward Zamorak's room. Sure enough, Spyridon stopped at the General's door. Zaros heard voices within.
Spyridon knocked, and the voices stopped abruptly. "Come in," said Zamorak.
Spyridon and Zaros walked into the room, in which Zamorak and Enakhra sat. Zamorak, on seeing the Emperor, got up and took off his shirt. He spun and showed his back back to Zaros. Zaros cringed. There was a huge black tattoo that covered him. It looked like a huge serpent, with writing in an ancient language on it.
"What is that?" asked Zaros.
"I don't know," replied Zamorak. "But I think that Aithama put it on me. I was unconscious the whole time, so she could have done it."
Zaros examined the tattoo. "Spyridon, Enakhra, do either of you know what it could be?"
"No, sir," they replied in unison.
"It gives me a bad feeling. Does Amsca know?"
"We told him, but he's never seen anything like it either. Nor did any of his men."
Zaros pondered. "We'll have to wait until we get back to Senntisten. Azzanadra knows a thing or two about ancient languages, and we've got people there that can figure it out."
"When are we departing for Senntisten?" asked Spyridon.
"As soon as we can. In fact, I'll notify Amsca now. Get ready to go."
"Yes, sir!"
Zaros left the room and went to find Amsca. However, he couldn't shake the image of that tattoo from his mind. What was Amascut planning? And how much strength did Aithama actually have? As he thought about it all, he realized that he was more than ready to get out of the desert.
