---Introduction---

"In a age of terror and strife a terrible scream rippled across the weave, shattering the boundaries between our world and the Ether. Dendar the World Serpent, having feasted upon the Nightmares and Souls of the forgotten dead had awoken bringing with her an army of horrors made manifest. The Seven Kingdoms hard pressed to defend themselves after several long years of war and internal conflict.

We prayed, and the gods came but they held no answer. The Primordials feeling a threat to Gaia's beating heart awoke giving birth to apocalyptic storms, but it was without avail and having feasted upon the souls of Mortals, Gods, and Primordials the Serpent turned it's rotting yolk eyes to our Sun preparing to bring an end to an already dying world.

The End had come, and the Phoenix Guard would soon be born…"

Formosus, Wyrm Chronicler of Nigh

The World

The world known as Allyai was once a hospitable place, lush and varied it was home to the Seven Kingdoms of man, elf, and dwarf. Known as the Trinity these three peoples fought for Wealth, Religion, Land, and Ideology resulting in a nigh endless state of conflict and war. Adventuring was a profitable business, fulfilling the duties of guards in monster slaying and the raiding of forgotten crypts.

Then Dendar arrived, a world ripe with fear and devastation she unleashed horrors long forgotten upon the lands. Taken by surprise the Seven Kingdoms quickly dissolved into chaos. Fearing the loss of their power the gods intervened wounding Dendar and delaying the inevitable, but not without great cost as Nine were slain. Next came the Primordials who wreaked havoc upon the lands, giving birth to the Primordial Chaos but soon too they were pushed back.

As the Kingdoms recovered ancient enigmatic structures were discovered, left by the extinct Satorian Race the first of these was discovered by Sorey Windspeaker that gave hope to a grim dark world...

---Background---

The Trinity:

Your usual suspects, these a common throughout fantasy and little has changed about them.

Human

"Rarely has the world witnessed a species so adaptable."

Humans are a mixed bunch and come in all shapes and sizes, they are widely known to be amongst the most adaptable of species in the world and having the largest population they are also the most common of species.

Elf (Grey, Eladrin)

"Our armies are the finest in creation; swift where our foes are lumbering, cultured where they are barbaric. Give no thought to failure, nor defeat - we will prevail over this evil."

Elves are long lived people who value knowledge and balance above all else. They come in two types the Grey Elves who have resided deep in network of underground cave systems for generations, and the Eladrin who believe themselves the true elves and operate between the Winter (Lawful Neutral) and Summer Courts (Chaotic Neutral). They often perceive other less long lived creatures as children and are particularly critical of humans whom they view as invaders.

Dwarfs (Mountain and Hill)

"Men's coins are like their words; never trust 'em. Use your weighing scales and keep your axe close."

Dwarfs are small folk with a fondness for good ales and craftsmanship. The Mountain Dwarves known for their vast mining systems and wealth are very protective of their mountain fortresses while their Hill cousins live in small communities typically trading emeralds and other valuable jewels for resources from human settlements.

The Bird Folk:

There are two birdfolk species, one tribal (Raptorans) the other Oriental (Kenku/Tengu) both are very caring of their neighbors and high protective of their allies. During the spring months they are very defensive however, due to being limited to seasonal breeding habits.

Raptoran

"The rat fears the rising of the Moon. But for the Owl, the moonrise means it is time to Hunt."

Raptorans are the first of the two ‘birdfolk’ species that inhabit the world, once considered angels by the god fearing people the Raptorans are a tribal species with an affinity for Wind based magic. Their only known City is referred to the City of Feathers and located deep in the mountain range known as Dragon’s Teeth, and is considered by many to be the most well defended city with glasteel spires. They are humanoid in shape and appearance with talon like feet, feathered wings and hair. Raptorans are capable of Flight but fragile bones makes them vulnerable to blunt weapons.

Kenku (Tengu)

"If life is a game, we play it. If life is a challenge, we meet it. If life is a opportunity, we capture it."

The second species of ‘Birdfolk’ are the Kenku a crow people who live in the far eastern lands of the world. They are carefree people who take a fancy to travelling the world and piracy, their closely related cousins meanwhile are far more honourable following a Code similar to that of Bushido with greater emphasis on living free, this stems from a past of enslavement under Human rule prior to the Whitewing Uprising. Both species are black crow humanoids the primary difference being that Kenku lack wings and Tengu who retain them are capable of gliding, both can mimic the voices of others with practice.

The Monstrous Folk:

The “Other” species this section is very much at your own risk, each species here at one time or another has caused significant issues for the other races and thus tend to be treated more poorly than their counterparts.

Kobold - The descendants of Satorians the Kobold are widely regarded as a nuisance for villages and towns across the world, known as highly efficient miners they tend to be subjected willingly by dragons who use them as minions and means to further their hoards. Their potency with Magic can be unmatched if honed.

Orc - Orcs are tribal people who roam the wilderness for supplies, they aren’t inherently hostile people but due to the fact they live in very hostile environments will often launch raids on local populations and trade convoys for food and water. They are known, and respected as making fine warriors and shamans.

Gnome - Gnomes are known for their technological knowledge and famed inventors, although they are often at odds with Kobolds their short lasted conflicts with Kobolds can leave entire regions devastated without regard for civilians caught in the crossfire, or even purposely choosing that battleground to test their latest concoction. Gnomes are good characters if you want to use gadgets and technology or alchemists matched only by the Ratfolk.

Drakkon - Drakkon are highly aggressive reptilian species that lay claim to numerous swamplands across the world. They are savage and brutal people that worship the Naga often bring captured merchants as sacrifices, few Drakkon leave their tribes to find glory and fame and will happily ally themselves with a Lord if it means the opportunity to acquire wealth and infamy. Drakkon have a poisonous bite that can hinder the movements of foes.

Shifters - No one knows what a shifter truly looks like, appearing as whatever creature they please shifters often find themselves becoming information brokers and spies. If discovered however, they are rarely trusted.

---The Vaults---

Credit: Tenshikii, DeviantArt

"I do not know what it is I want. Only what it is I do not want."
Haotl, The Architect

Monolith and Pyramid structures left behind by the Satorian species, these enigmatic structures have only recently made their presence known. Each 'Vault' is known to contain various artefacts some valuable treasures and pieces of artwork, others ancient and powerful weapons but most importantly is the Vault themselves.

Each Vault is considered Arcane Architecture by Magi and highly valued curiosities by Historians. This stems from the fact that while each Vault is constructed from as of yet unknown impenetrable onyx stone material which continuously and endlessly records the history of the region within which it resides. Those with knowledge of the Draconic language are able to decipher these texts with some difficulty due to overlapping histories but quickly established that the Vaults are somehow connected to Dendar leading many to believe this isn't the first time the Night Serpent has awoken.

It has since become the utmost priority of the surviving factions to discover and locate each of the Vaults in hopes of delaying or defeating Dendar and her Agents who are naturally seeking to hinder their efforts.

Known Vaults:
Pyramid of Hoatl, Underground

Architects:

"The Gods and Primordials can do nothing, they are bound to their own destiny. It falls to those of free will to defeat what cannot be defeated. Do you raise to the challenge or succumb to fate?"

Each Vault has an Architect whom has dedicated their soul and essence to protecting their assigned Vault, each possessing great power and command over the Vault's defences they ensure any adventurers entering their domain is well prepared and tested before surrendering it's treasures.

These 'tests' can vary from straight up combat, puzzles, moral choices, or even forcing them to face their own troubled pa

Technology

Prior to Dendars Awakening the world’s powers were locked in a state of war, technology as a result advanced quickly with major breakthroughs made in areas of Medicine, Ballistics, and Transportation. With the invention of Gunpowder the likes of musket and cannon became commonplace with some particularly advanced weapons utilising Magitech or Revolver type ammo feeds.

However, few armies are now able to field such weapons in any respectable degree with ammunition supplies limited such weapons tend to be reserved for members of the Phoenix Guard or Veterans.

Magitech: Magitech doesn't require ammo in the traditional sense utilising a resource known as Sablese (Commonly referred to as Powder) which functions as a arcane battery pack powering anything from weapons to constructs. This Sablese is a form of quartz which can hold a magical charge effectively functioning as a battery pack that any respectable Magi can charge. In past it was used to imbue armours and equipment with magical properties a craft that the Rune-smiths of the dwarfs became famous for.

Technological Marvels and Master-craft:

Technological Marvels are unique or extremely rare pieces of equipment that can no longer be fully understood or replicated. These tend to be on par with Master-craft which consists of Legendary Swords, Armours, Constructs etc.

Notable Technologies:

Airships - The most common airship is powered by Air Elementals, with more advanced Airships capable of traversing the Ether by a process known as Planeshifting. These vessels require a Magi to Anchor them to reality once arriving at their destination but can travel great distances in a few days, but risk attracting the horrors that reside. These are typically made by the Bird Folk.

Constructs - Various constructs are made for the purposes of labour or war, the most advanced of these is the Lord o' War capable of besieging enemy fortifications.

Locomotive - Locomotives are common place in human an
