“God makes rainy days so gardeners can get the housework done.”

Jeremiah was strapped to a cold wooden table. There was nothing but the fluorescent tube lights running above him, which allowed him to see the yellow flowered wallpaper. His clothes were laid neatly on a chair beside him. There was his shirt, his jeans and his shoes—all folded neatly with the shoes on top.

The whole room was just scattered garden tools. There was watering can, a trowel, a shovel, a weed whacker (That tool didn't particularly please him), some pesticide like the one his wife uses, only this one was in a blue container and some beige plant pots.

Jeremiah tried moving his face to see his situation better. Around his arms and legs were three inch thick straps of leather around his limbs. Those brown straps were connected to steel linked chains. And those chains were tightly connected to the table arms. Very tightly.

“That quote is one of my favorites, Jeremiah. Regrettably it is anonymous. Yes, Jeremiah, I know your name,” the man said reading the surprised expression on Jeremiah’s face. “You have no idea who I am, do you? I guess you can call me Green Thumb, or just Green for short.”

Green was pacing around the room studying Jeremiah. He pulled out a small fabric pouch with a tie cord. Inside were a bunch of seeds.

“Why me?” Jeremiah decided to ask terrified when Green picked up a scalpel from the floor. It blade looked dull but still fully capable of cutting.

“It was never personal, I just have my experiments. It was only by chance that I picked you. Think of it like winning the lottery.” He took out a washable marker and drew an ‘X’ across Jeremiah’s chest.

“Please, if I hurt you in any way I am sorry, but I don’t deserve this,” Jeremiah said pleadingly. He was twisted his arms and legs violently but they were securely tied to the table.

“Nobody lives happily ever after anymore. We just leave our children to find out for themselves. I found it out for myself difficultly.” He jabbed the knife into Jeremiah’s stomach.

“OH GOD PLEASE DON’T! STOP IT! PLEASE STOP!” The knife was digging deep into his skin and a great burning sensation was there, like his whole chest was on fire. “I AM BEGGING YOU, FOR GOD’S SAKE STOP!”

The knife was being dragged across through his stomach and guts. He felt whatever he had eaten would soon be pouring out onto his skin. The acid in his stomach was spreading to his organs and he could feel burning in places that he never thought he could feel. His kidneys were throbbing, his lungs were pounding. Jeremiah let out another scream. He didn't want to look, but he did. He could see his small intestine hanging out like a party streamer.

“JESUS, STOP! THIS HURTS! PLEASE, PLEASE STOP!”

Green thumb was using both hands now to rip apart the chest. It looked like he was stirring a pot. "Don’t worry, Jeremiah. You will be my happily ever after.”

He now took a seed from that pouch Jeremiah saw earlier. He folded back a piece of skin and started to place it in with his bare hands.

“MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU—,” but that was all Jeremiah could say before he passed out.

When he woke up again his eyes were a blurry mess. The room appeared like it had been filled with clouds of mist. His arms were purple and bruised. When he looked at his chest he could see it had been stitched up—quite crudely—and that it was convulsing. His chest was moving apart from his body.

“Is anyone there?” Jeremiah called out anxiously.

“It was a success. And now we wait.” Green smiled showing Jeremiah half his teeth and then left the room. There was a loud clunk of a metal lock being turned. He looked down at his chest.

‘Am I in hell?’ was all he could think before his mind drifted to sleep again.

The next few days were uncomfortable. His whole body felt numb and bruised, only it was changing into a shade of green, not purple. There was something inside him that was itching, something that was poking at his organs. He had no movement in his fingers.

“CHRIST!” Jeremiah had screamed on day when it felt like something had exploded. His breaths were becoming short and quick as bit his tongue to get his mind off the pain. “WHAT THE HELL’S HAPPENING TO ME?”

By the fourth day he felt ready to die. His left leg had developed a lump, like he was infected with some sort of plague. It was ready to burst.

“No...no please don’t...” The lump was growing. He screamed in pain as it swelled up like a balloon filling with air. “STOP!”

His leg burst open. Drops of blood were spraying onto his face as he yelled for salvation. His leg was torn open, skin ripped to shreds. “GET RID OF IT!” Jeremiah screamed. “I AM SORRY JUST GET RID OF IT!”

He could see the muscles flexing as something green was wrapped around them. It was moving and coiling around the fat, feeding off it. The long vine carried thorns which pierced sharply into Jeremiah’s leg, drawing more blood that was pooling onto the table, dripping softly to the floor.

‘It knows I’m dying.” Jeremiah thought in wonder and horror as his eyes fixated on the twisting vine. It wrapped around his leg right above the explosion coiling itself like rope. He felt pressure as it tightened and saw the blood that was pouring out of his leg had stopped.

‘My God it’s—,’ Jeremiah had another faint spell.

Green Thumb checked Jeremiah’s progress by the end of the week. His eyes were just full of fascination as he stared at Jeremiah’s leg, which was now bountiful with pink flowers and thorns.

“You are beautiful...” Green remarked when he saw the flora developing. His hands gently caressed the leg. The vines recoiled in fear. “Shhh...my love...it will be okay...” He poured a bucket of water on the leg and left.

The growing process was speeding. The vines were curling around his body, tightening there bind together. His right leg had exploded several dies later. The vines inside were crawling up, instead of down, towards his hands. He only prayed they wouldn’t reach his head.

Flower buds were growing under his fingernails. He had shrieked in pain when they began to enlarge, slowly prying the fingernails out of the skin. His hands were just vibrant colors of green and pink.

Green had been making more and more frequent visits. He took a few moments every visit to gaze at Jeremiah with a look of awe, ignoring his pleading cries for freedom. Then he would make another incision in the chest, pouring in soil.

Jeremiah felt he would rather burn in hell when the flowers reached his cranium. It happened so quick and sudden; he barely had time to cry.

“NO!" He bawled as the vines inside him started crawling inside his neck. The skin was moving up and down like ocean waves. “Please, you can have my arms and legs just don’t take my head.”

The vines disregarded Jeremiah’s pleas and traveled faster. He only managed one last scream before a thorny vine sprung out of his esophagus, spearing his tongue and slithering out of his mouth. He could only mumble.

The thorns were piercing through his skull. He gave a muffled scream followed by the loss of sight in his left eye. He imagined if he could look at it with his right it would have been sliced to shreds by thorns.

His back arched high into the air as it began to prod its brain. It took a few seconds, like it was curious, then it dug in. It stabbed Jeremiah with crushing force and he thought the pain would make him faint. But it didn't. He was feeling it all.

Squishing sounds were made inside his skull as his brain was shifted around. He was losing thought, like it was finding a way to mind control him by penetrating his brain. He collapsed on the table still awake, with a drool and blood flowing out of his mouth.

“Better than I could have ever dreamed.” Jeremiah’s skin was covered in thick bushes of roses. Vines were slowing curling around his body as if to protect from any intruders. The thorns had dug into his carcass like burs and he could still feel the pain that wanted him to cry, that wanted him to be dead, but he couldn’t scream. The vines and rose buds had sprouted in his mouth like a muzzle.

"You are my greatest creation, for creation is what mankind needs.” His skin was green. He expected that if Mr. Thumb were to cut his veins, plant juice would pour out. Jeremiah couldn’t see, only feel and he gave off a wonderful scent of lilacs. Green had even brought in bees to help pollinate Jeremiah.

“I will take care of you, my plant,” Green Thumb said soothingly to Jeremiah, before giving him more plant food.

The days were droning on more slowly. Jeremiah still felt alive, but he felt like a half a person underneath all the thorns. He couldn't move. He only had an almost sixth scent. It allowed him to hover above the room and see everything that was happening to his body.

It had been ten weeks since the abduction, though Jeremiah had lost count long ago. Green Thumb was in the room, with a mournful expression on his face. A blacked rose bud had fallen to the floor. He picked it up and crushed it in his palm.

“You’re wilting,” He said, trying to mask his tears. “Blooming season is almost over.” He turned around and picked up a large tool. Jeremiah could see for the first time, and while his left eye was still torn apart, his right eye was full of fear.

“I cannot watch my creation die slowly. You gave me my happily ever after, Jeremiah. You really did.” He pulled a chord on the giant tool and it came to life, spewing out exhaust from the engine. The bottom of it had a thick wire, which was spinning rapidly.

“My parent’s had died when I was young.” Jeremiah could see Green’s face full of sorrow. He was still watching the weed whacker spinning fast above him.

“I was left for the world, and I gardened. I loved plants and they loved me. And it always killed me when one died. I am not killing you, Jeremiah. You’re killing me.”

He brought the weed whacker down and it spun wildly across Jeremiah’s body. The vines screamed in terror as they were ripped to shreds. Thorns were violently thrown everyone, desperately trying to escape Green’s wrath. He brought the spinning blades to Jeremiah’s neck.

“You’re killing me, Jeremiah. You really are.” He brought it down swiftly and everything went black.

The Jaster’s were holding hands walking down the street. They saw an averagely old man working hard in his garden, back streaked with sweat.

“A bit hot out to be working out in the sun?” Colin Jaster commented.

“A garden never sleeps, my friend.” He wiped the sweat of his brow and shook hands.

“I guess not. This is magnificent by the way.”

The man gave a look of graciousness. “Thank-you. I could always use extra hands, though. Stop by whenever you want.”

“I am sure I will. Those flowers look exoitic. Are they?” Colin asked.

“No. Just one of my creations.”

“Well they really are wonderful.” The Jaster’s took one last look at the vibrant colors of flowers. “I have to tell my friends about this. How could you have done this?”

The man smiled slightly holding up a small fabric pouch. He poured the contents out into his palm. They were seeds.

“A garden is no trouble at all if you know how to treat it right.” He gave Colin Jaster one of the seeds. “It just needs a human touch.”

There we go! Enjoy! :)

I would like to dedicate this particular story to Elementsky21. He was the one who practically came up with the idea—I only wrote it. Without him this story would not have been made. I hope you like it Elly! Also if you have time, pop down to his stories like Sandstone, or his collection if you don't have a good attention span. ;) They are really great.
