"Ack! What? What?!" She shouted, turned around, and noticed that she and Reitar were the only ones in the room. A couple of thieves had just disappeared from the room. Rei's strange smile was again painted on his face, and then he said,
"Well, we're about to leave for the Deal. Estimates are that it'll take 'round two days with the portals that Levantris got for us. Gonna so beat those Phoenix harpies! Come on! Everyone's waiting for you!" After hearing those words, Sonia got up, slowly, still thinking about the future. She walked with Reitar out of the room, and to the front, where all the thieves were crammed into the small alcove with the statue and the chair.
"Ah, good. You've brought her. Now we can get going. Even though I told you all this yesterday, let's just reiterate it so you brickheads out there understand it." Levantris spoke from the very back of the group, his back to the door that separated the hideout from the rest of Varrock.
"Ok. We have to move as fast as we can. Apparently the idiots at the Phoenix got some last-minute help, so they're gonna be there just as fast as we are. We have to get to the Warehouse in less than twelve hours. Got it? Twelve hours. That's sunset if you all don't have a watch. If we don't get there fast enough, Phoenix is gonna be able to start looting first, even with the advantage that we have over them.
Next, when we get there, treat this mission as if it were your last. Be as sneaky as you've dreamed of being, and if you even do so much as to let someone hear you breathe, you better do something about it before I do. You get caught, you jeopardize this entire gang's reputation. Kill anyone who seems to get in your way, unless it's a gang member. If it is, make no quarrel of it, and move on. We're not going there to bicker like little idiotic children.
And finally, get as much as you can comfortably carry. We're gonna need to make a hasty escape on this too. Got it?"

"Right!" The majority of them said, but others just mumbled in agreement.
Levantris looked through an obscure opening in the door, and then picked the lock and shoved it open. The thieves all darted out from the door in a strangely beautiful line, their steps as quiet as a dead calm wind. Reitar immediately followed them, leaving Sonia by herself in the room.
"Are you nervous?" He spoke. Apparently that talk about getting there as fast as they possibly could didn't seem to apply to Sonia. He didn't even seem to look at her impatiently, no; he just stood there holding open the door and waiting for her.
"I don't know about this... But c'mon, I'll speak to you on the road. W-We have to get going, right?" Sonia's obvious nervousness was showing in her stuttering, softer voice and the fact she kept messing around with her hair.
"Don't be nervous, Sonia. Everything will be... Fine. As long as you do what I say, you won't get hurt." Sonia nodded sheepishly and then jogged out of the hideout, letting Levantris close the door, which slammed, leaving a signal in the rest of the hideout that told of the start of the legendary mission.

--

The group had already reached the outside of Varrock, the sun just barely beginning to rise and peek over the horizon. The thieves were like black, fleeting shadows across the dim light of the dawn, holding whatever they were assigned to hold.
"So, what was on your mind?" Levantris asked Sonia, only looking forward to make notes of the slightly rocky terrain that kept appearing in front of them as they ran.
"Well... I'm not... Really sure about this, Levantris. I know we're already on our way and we can't turn back... But I don't know if I can live with this." Sonia looked to the forward to mark the rotting log that was a good twenty yards in front of her, and then looked to the left, afraid to look Levantris in the face.

And it starts: the longest parts of the story. I hope you brought your reading will and maybe some popcorn, 'cause this is *long stuff*. Don't worry, there'll be other bookmarks along the way... ;)
Again, Paquet's name is messed up. Since his name occurs in the story like 89 times (random guess, lol), I don't want to have to change 'em all... so you'll just have to know that 'Pa*uet' means 'Paquet'!

"Ha. You're not like the others. But I wouldn't worry about it. It only takes something simple, and then everything else just falls into place. Sounds easier than it really is. The hardest part is starting the lifestyle. But don't worry, I can help you get through." Levantris jumped over a large boulder, whipped out a knife, and sliced a passing dragonfly in half, causing its guts to fly behind him and splatter on the grass.
Sonia heard the slicing of the dragonfly, and that made her turn around. She was beginning to get tired from running, as the scenery changed from easy plains and occasional rocks to taller grass, more frequent obstacles, and the occasional squirrel or raccoon hiding in the bushes that now began to appear. Levantris, however, didn't even break a sweat; he was beginning to pull ahead of her and then he suddenly dived close to the ground like he was going to go under a wall, and then came up again, a squirrel's speared carcass on one of his knives.
"I get bored, you know?" He said indifferently to Sonia, who was unaware that her face looked puzzled and shocked at the same time.
After a while more of running, the sun beginning to shine and add heat to the mix, and after the scenery now began to change almost into blatant forest, Sonia whined, now sweating, hot, and tired,
"How much longer is it to the portal?!"
"Hmm. Well, it's already mid-morning. We'll take a break after reaching the clearing of this little forest, which is around ten minutes."
Sonia groaned, but Levantris continued to run as if nothing had affected him. She couldn't run any longer... The heat was now beginning to get to her, and the Rogue armor was now beginning to smell like greasy, old meat, which only made it worse. She couldn't take the running any longer! Her body was just too tired to go on, even at the slow pace she'd been running at!

"Hey, come on! It's only a little bit longer until we reach the clearing! Everyone's waiting for us up there!" Levantris called from about fifty yards in front of Sonia, who had stopped to catch her breath.
"I'll be there... As soon... as I... Can get... A medic." Sonia panted, barely managing to spit out the words as things began to feel light and dizzy, the greasy smell of spoiled meat beginning to feel intoxicating and warming, as the solid green trees began to turn yellow and split into mirror images of themselves. She felt everything fade into sleep, and then she fell onto the ground, making a thud as she fell to the ground.
"Humph. Oh well, she hasn't had any prior training, so I won't have to chew her out for falling behind." Levantris noticed as he reached the edge of the clearing, where the rest of the thieves were beginning to set up their temporary camp and pull out some food and drink. He turned around and went back into the forest, finding Sonia's limp body and picking it up easily.
Her face, though ridden with sweat and tears and dirt, still held a look of innocence. Where had he seen that before? Where had he seen a cute, charming face like that somewhere in his life?
...Twenty years ago, it suddenly came to him. Except now everything had changed. Too many things to think about right now, because he had to lead the rest of the Black Arm Gang to the portal that would help them get to Jipalar Warehouse.
But for some reason, he caressed her face very softly and slowly, right before he entered the clearing...
"Hey, Levantris! You finally got here! C'mon, have a bit of this beef jerky! It's amazing!" Vinnin shouted from the front of the small camp, where he and Reitar were chewing the beef jerky that laid next to the small campfire.
It was crude, but then again, so were they.

The group of thieves had set up about six campfires, and groups of thieves were sitting around the fires eating, drinking, and talking about Jipalar and other random things, like their lives, how much loot they'd get, and how many Phoenix Gang members they would kill.
"Aw. Sonia couldn't keep up, huh?" Reitar wiped the drops of sweat that were coming down his own face, which was still smiling even as he took a bite of the beef jerky. He and Vinnin were really sweaty, but strangely enough, they didn't even stink, at least not yet.
"Yeah. Well, what do you expect? She hasn't had any training, and I doubt she's even been outside of Varrock and ran the entire way down near the River Lum." Levantris put her down near the fire, where she slept peacefully next to Reitar.
"True. Hey boss, exactly where is the portal? And where's it lead to?" Vinnin burped loudly after speaking, which didn't disturb Sonia at all. She was definitely out of commission for a while, but Levantris was pretty sure she'd be awake and running by the time they got to Jipalar Warehouse.
"Doesn't matter. What matters is that we get to the Warehouse. However I'll tell you this. You know O'Hinal and Frojkal, a couple of Class 3 thieves?" Levantris put his hand out, and Vinnin grabbed another strip of beef jerky from the bag and put it in Levantris's gloved hand. He chewed on the jerky, ripping it apart with some strength due to the jerky's density.
"Oh. Yeah, I think they were in the Rising Sun Deal, right?" Reitar spoke up, scratching his head and then flashing a quick look at Sonia, then back to Levantris.
"Let me tell you, you should keep an eye on those two."
"Ok..." Reitar slowly turned his head to the right and then got up from his place at the campfire, and walked over to another campfire where four thieves were laughing heartily at some joke one of them had just told.

Vinnin turned around and looked back at Rei, his dark face with a wondering look on it. He turned around back to see Levantris, and he said:
"Anyways. O'Hinal is the one to watch out for. He seems to have a grudge against me since I demoted him from Class 4 to Class 3. And it seems he wants revenge somehow, but I'm not entirely sure. Even though I'm not the easiest thing to sneak up on and kill, you need to keep watch over him. See if you can find out what he's up to so I can feed him to Savlon. The oversized ogre hasn't had a *human* meal in years..."
"And what 'bout Frojkal, boss?" Vinnin ate the last of his beef jerky.
"He seems to be an accomplice of O'Hinal's. Seems that they're friends, but you know how Frojkal is. Still, I think if you wanna work on getting the dirt on O'Hinal, you should also keep watch over Frojkal. He probably knows everything O'Hinal's up to."

"Do you think the King will be mad at us for siding with these guys...?" Sevan whispered to Paquet as they walked on the side of the lineup of Phoenix Gang members, which numbered just as much as the Black Arms' team, if not more. They wore tattered, crimson robe-like armor, and wore a dyed Rogue Mask that suited the Phoenix Gang.
"It may be possible to explain the situation to Roald, but most likely he'll go off in a fit like he always does and punish us without even listening to us. So don't tell him of the plan. The only thing I've told him is that we would sabotage the Black Arms during the Jipalar Deal. Nothing more. He thinks it's just you, Irtia, and I..." Pa*uet whispered back, while Irtia was on the other side of the crowd of thieves, with Straven, the leader of the Phoenix Gang.
"Huh. I've never seen the King *always* go off in a fit. Yes, because a couple of days ago those thieves came and looted the Castle, but I haven't seen him get mad about a lot of other *important* things and do something hasty..."

Sevan looked up to the morning sky, whose orange sun shone on what was left of Varrock as it faded out of their sight, becoming smaller and smaller.
"You don't know Roald like I do, Sevan. I've known him since he was born, since he was a prince! I've watched him grow up. I know what makes him mad, and what makes him happy, and even what the name of his stuffed animal was back when he was five years old!" Pa*uet whispered loudly, as if trying to convince Sevan of something.
"So you're saying you know him better than anyone else, possibly even better than he knows himself?" Sevan questioned, brushing some of his hair aside from his forehead.
"Maybe so. But I still have to keep watch over him, until he dies, or until I die. Sometimes I think the former will come first, and perhaps it will..." Pa*uet turned his head and looked at the many Phoenix Gang members, whose faces were stern and unforgiving, ready to kill anything that got in their way.
"So... What do you think of the gang, Irtia?" Straven waved his left arm out over the Phoenixes, and she just kept looking forward, not responding to Straven's comment.
"Ah, the quiet type, I see... I love that. Great on thieves, but way better on you." Straven looked at her, his face confident and smiling with hard courage.
"Don't. Try it." Irtia spoke in a harsh tone, putting her hand out in front of Straven's face, without looking at him directly.
"Fine. But I will say this without any hormones backing me... That silent aura you seem to radiate is very much like the one a true thief radiates. I would know, otherwise I wouldn't be leading this gang that's about to set fire to the Black Arms." Straven looked over at Sevan and Pa*uet, and then straight ahead again.
"Hmm**." Irtia put her hand down and ignored Straven's comment. Her face was stern, and didn't seem to show any indication of agreeing or denying Straven's comment.

"Fine. *Don't* agree with me. But I think you know what's *really* true, and whether you want to believe it or not is your choice." Straven fell back in the line and went to the back of the group of Phoenix Gang members.
--
As the day progressed, and the sun rose higher in the sky, a strange mist began to float in from the west, covering up the sun's light and darkening the surroundings.
"What's this craziness, Pa*uet? Someone shoot a fire spell into the river or something?" Sevan asked Pa*uet. He sniffed the air, and replied,
"No, that's not steam. In fact, it's not anywhere near that. It's like the fog that comes in before spirits and ghosts haunt a particular group of people... Like us." Pa*uet was calm as ever, and the green grass faded from sight, replaced by the grayish fog. Sevan gulped. He didn't like ghosts, at all. Even though he was a fierce ranger, he wouldn't be able to pierce them with his projectiles...
The group went from a bright, blue-skied, shining day on the grassy path to Edgeville to a strange, mysterious journey through a cold grayish fog, that seemed to swirl around random people. It was as if the fog was inspecting everyone, seeing who would be suitable for whatever that the spirits were planning to do. Despite this, everyone kept walking through the fog, without really freaking out too much. The Phoenix Gang members still had that fierce look on their faces, and kept on trudging along.
"Look!" Sevan pointed out. His finger pointed to a strange, white glowing ball of energy in the air. It was about the size of a head, and just floated there, lonely in the middle of the fog.
"Who cares? Keep on going! Just go around the stupid thing!" Straven called out, but when he said that, the light ball wiggled and turned into a ball of black darkness. It shot out three bolts of dark electricity and grabbed Straven with them, but he made no sound as the bolts pulled him in quickly to the ball of darkness.

His face hadn't even changed its look. The front line of Phoenix Gang members rushed up like silent, fleeting red flames and attempted to slice through the bolts of darkness, but when they tried to, more bolts escaped from the ball and entrapped them as well.
"H-Hold it, you idiots!" Straven yelled, struggling to free himself of the darkness's grasp. When he did so, the bolts became lit with a shocking purple aura, and it traveled straight through to Straven, shocking him with a loud crackling and making him silent again.
The other rows of Phoenix Gang members stopped where they stood, their faces still with that same stern look, although their gazes were now in different directions. Some looked at their companions caught by the darkness, while others looked at Straven.
"I-I think w-we're--" The darkness shocked him again, this time leaving a small tower of black smoke that came from Straven's body. His neat brown hair now looked singed and gray in parts, but he still managed to continue on.
"*-T-Trapped here! So... I--" Again, the darkness shocked him, this time even louder than before. Straven's face was now turning red from the burns that the electricity was giving him, and almost all of his hair stood upwards with the static and heat.
"G-Give... Pa*uet... P-Permission... To lead!" Finally, the ball of darkness rose up, still holding Straven and the other Phoenix Gang members hostage with its bolts, and sent out a large, quick bolt of pure darkness to their heads.
This evaporated the bolts into purple mist and left the victims on the floor, blackened, disfigured, and smoking. Straven looked the worst, as he was surrounded by a small black aura and his skin was black and torn open in random places, the blood turned into a thick, inky substance.
The Phoenix Gang members who had been watching the incident all turned to Paquet at the same time, but their faces had finally lost the fierce look.
