~~Notice: On 29 December 2010, Legacy of the Mora was officially finished. Thanks to all who contributed, especially MrMechaWiz, Amoraten, and Twid. All submissions cannot be accepted henceforth.~~

Welcome to Legacy of the Mora, a collaborative renga of (minimum) 36 stanzas. The aim is simply to make a high quality renga whilst working together and having fun, because, after all, poetry is fun, especially Japanese forms. The minimum is 36 stanzas, but the idea behind renga is that we could keep on collaborating endlessly, which is a nice idea indeed, though perhaps I should've used a better time phrase. Anyway...

I am going to briefly explain below how a renga is composed:

-Each stanza is essentially composed of a haiku (a verse of three lines and a 5-7-5 syllabic count) and a wa*i (two lines, 7-7 syllabic count).
-A contribution can either consist of a haiku, wa*i, or both together (which is called a tanka).
-The purpose of the waki is to follow on from the haiku and ‘provide a link’ in some way to the next stanza. This aspect of collaboration is hard and might take a while.
-There is no need for a constant storyline, though a wa*i after a haiku should (though it’s not a necessity) be somewhat related.

I willingly accept all forms of haiku, both traditional and non-conformist verses free of the syllabic pattern. Wa*i, on the other hand, are better off if they're traditional.

If you wish to submit a verse, or part of a verse, please just post it.

I assure you I won’t fiddle with stanzas and remove them once added; they’ll be left in their place. All contributors will be credited on the credits section at the bottom of page 2.

-~-ENDORSEMENTS:

Before the renga begins, I am going to just endorse a few other threads on this forum I believe are worth looking at. QFCs will be added later, but I've also profiled them all. (None are finished)

1. The Crocefisso Collection: my collection of short stories and poems. I hope you'll come and have a little read. QFC: 49-50-20-60916842

2. The Dark Lane: a wonderful fusion of obscure narratives with a spider like thread linking them together, written by the talented Amoraten. QFC: 49-50-530-60629813

3. A Story of snow, peace and sky: a poetic short story by Home Pathway. Definitely worth a read. QFC: 49-50-270-60906862

~~1
Winter rages fierce,
Snow, wind, rain, all batter me,
Mud absorbs my shoes,

Door locked tight, winter locked out,
I cannot escape my thoughts.
~~2
Light the winter fire –
Water boils, the tea is brewed,
Some prefer nettles.

While I do the needless chores
My mind wanders endlessly.
~~3
A moose plods along,
And I glance up to see it
It's always alone

I quietly ask myself:
Why is it solitary?
~~4
Water splashes rocks,
Shining under the clear stream,
Carp jump gracefully.

Downstream children play their games,
Look, overhead, a bird soars.
~~5
Rain crashing on me,
My thoughts lift themselves astray,
The Love felt that day.

This bleeding cold, felt on me,
By her Love, it is set free.
~~6
She now fills my mind
And I remember her life
Years of knowledge - lost.

A log drifts by and I,
I push her out of my mind.
~~7
Dark clouds surround me,
From over darkened mountain peaks,
I hide in the dark.

Imagination encases me,
It feeds on my endless fear.
~~8
My fear knows nothing,
For I am the master here.
This is my way now.

I conquer all who oppose,
But you are the one who knows.
~~9
Footsteps in woodland –
Across a verdant pasture
Startled deer scatter.

Happily butterfly feeds -
Fluttering bright coloured wings.
~~10
Sun scorched street –
A constant rhythm,
We walk over cobbles

Willow leans over river
A single leaf flutters down
~~11
Cricket’s call at night –
Under moonlit skies it shrieks,
Disturbing silence,

As I gaze across at it,
Lost in childhood memories
~~12
Silly pleasantries,
Longing for a place that's free,
I won't find, cannot.

Words simplify what it is.
Only in my memory.
~~13
Bongos in my mind.
Dancing to a beat in my mind.
Realization now!

It is the beat of my drum
Motivation of my own.
~~14
Cricket’s call at night –
Under moonlit skies it shrieks,
Breaking the silence,

As I gaze across at it,
Lost in childhood memories

~~15
Mystery, you're there!
Remain hidden, that's your way.
Rebellion won't work!

Don't enlighten me, I know.
Because Mystery, you go.
~~16
Childlike wonderment
(In the mystery of life)
A rose- heaven's scent.

A train of thought masking strife
A reborn child's revenant.
~~17
Flashing lights, thunder
As the clouds, dark and thick roll
terribly violent.

The storm approaches for you.
Will your body cringe in fear?
~~18
Black against the pall
of cloud, a hand reaches out
Fear holds me in thrall.

Some dread clouds my thoughts without-
Spinning threads within self doubt.
~~19
This fear fills me all
Where can I escape from it?
Retreating, I flee...

But I don't know where to hide
Can't keep all the fears away
~~20
Shall I hide in peace?
Perhaps find comfort in song
Yet I still struggle

Nothing seems to be working
I'm fighting a losing war
~~21
War inside myself
I'm killing my inner being
Tearing me apart!

I must find peace from this war
Find out who I truly am!!
~~22
Introspection and
calm reflection within and
equivocation.

Blake's "Newton" lost in his mind
forsakes beauty in mankind
~~23
Tied up in own thoughts.
Outside, world's beauty evolves
Tied up by own thoughts.

I see a breeze through the trees-
Windy tides in leafy seas.
~~24
Poets wrapped in thought
Can't compare to the action
Of experience

You must see to believe me
And feel to wonder nature.
~~25
As nature wanders,
nutures natural wonders
And mankind blunders

We the children of the world
Suffocate all that we hold
~~26
We wonder, tired
of the nature that exists
in our tired minds

Sailing, always searching for
A journey to expand self.
~~27
Losing my mind is great!
No need to think, do, or say,
I can live apart.

My mind is gone, forever.
Lost in sky, dreams, ideas.
~~28
Child-like wonderment
(fervent's portent as day dawns).
Night's deathly raiment.

Light streams over the world's rim,
A tale of night's dark chagrin.

~~29
Bright skies envelope.
Rays beaming down from heaven.
Warmth, radiance, safe.

Jet me to the tropics
I want to feel a sunbeam!
~~30
Coyote’s shrill scream –
Across arid desert sands,
Deer scatter like wind.

As they run through safe shrub land,
Cunning, hidden wolves’ eyes glitter.
~~31
Lord in fine gardens,
Watches fireflies on lake
Dreaming of her face.

Between agony and joy –
Smiles, as chrysanthemums bloom.
~~32
Spring cherry blossom...
Floating upon the river
Where shall you end?

If you journey to my love
Tell her of my ceaseless tears.
~~33
Sunbeam dream unseen
Drifting on the leafy seas
Shattering day dream

As I wake and look through trees
Winter's breath sates Summer's breeze
~~34
For once, I wonder
of the endless loop called time
lose myself in thought

Thoughts twist and turn in my mind
I see the beauty of God
~~35
How is it I ask,
that we come to be on Earth?
By God? Or science?

God makes beauty all around
Yet science is logical
~~36
Yet I find myself,
Shedding tears upon my sleeves –
Sobs barely stifled.

Cold wind through the open door…
A blossom, no news, my thoughts.
