“Your daughter,” she enquired.
“She is dead. Tuoni killed her."
Rose looked down, trying to avoid eye contact.
“I, I’m sorry,” she said solemnly.
“As am I. He will suffer for all that he has done. Suffer immensely.”
This was horrible news, and I had nothing to say. All that Yamabushi lived for had been taken from him, by a merciless force that meant to do the same to us.
“There is still much to discuss, however. I said yesterday that Tuoni's plan was to destroy all the monsters, resulting in an unbalance. This plan has changed after discovering that you all knew about the Veritus Vos Liberit. He has instead decided to use his ne*romantic magic to amass an army of undead."
I stopped eating and looked at Yamabushi. He glared back, with the fear of God in his eyes. Kzahar and Rose were also looking at him in disbelief.
"This was a secondary plan that Tuoni has always had, in case something went wrong with the original. He will now simply send these armies into the Kingdoms of our world, and destroy everything. Unless we move quickly, we will be overwhelmed and annihilated."
"How long do we have?" I asked, now put off my food.
"Not long, two weeks, three at the most."
"And what of these armies, how many undead are we talking about?"
"Tuoni is very familiar with the wilderness and the evil that occurs there. He has been watching events there recently with interest, and has been even more interested in the bodies and corpses that are there. The undead do not care about the affairs of the Gods, and can be fully controlled by Tuoni. I am sure you are aware of the numbers of people that go there. Rest assured, Tuoni will have control of anyone who dies there. To answer your question, the army will number in the thousands."

"Then all hope is lost!" Kzahar said angrily, getting to his feet.
"There is yet more," said Yamabushi solemnly, scratching his chin.
I just looked at Yamabushi. How could there be more? This was a nightmare, that was just getting worse and worse.
"The magical field that I spoke of yesterday, the very thing that sent Tuoni's race the way it did, it is starting to appear again, in our time."
"How can this be?" Rose asked.
"The Listeners are recreating it themselves, putting all there mystic energies into it. The purpose of this is to send people insane, much like some of their own race did. This will of course make the army's job easier."
"What are the effects of this field?" I asked Yamabushi, suddenly very concerned.
"It affects people in different ways. Some will become calm and placid, even docile. Others will become enraged beyond reason, and may even kill other people. Some people will become a balance of both. They all, however, will have attitudes of the Gods, Saradomin's attributes being the calm, Zamorak evil, Guthix balanced."
My mind flashed back to last night, where my rage had been barely controllable.
"Is this field up and running yet?"
"Perhaps, why do you ask?"
"Never mind," I replied. I didn't want the others to know that the rage of Zamorak may have possessed me last night.
"We need to come up with a plan, and fast. We need allies, we cannot do this alone," I finally whispered.
Kzahar turned around and looked me in the eye. "Allies will not be a problem. We have all had adventures in the past, and I'm sure we can all pull in a few favours. Especially when we tell them that our very lives are under threat."
I looked back at Kzahar, he was grinning from ear to ear.
"What do you have in mind?" I asked, eagerly awaiting the plan brewing in Kzah**'* dark mind.

And so, Kzahar, with the aid of Yamabushi laid out a plan. By this time, Lydia and Justin had got out of bed, and were listening in. We all had a major role to play in the proceedings. Anyone who we had helped in the past were to be visited, told exactly what was happening, and with any luck, be recruited into our cause.
There were ten factions of governments and provinces that we were most interested in.
Misthalin, ruled by King Roald. The Varrock guard would be a potent addition to our forces.
The Kingdom of Asgarnia has the town of Falador, home of the White Knights. If we were lucky, we would be able to recruit the White Knights, the Black Knights, and maybe even the Mysterious Temple Knights.
Thirdly, the kingdom of Kandarin, joint ruled by King Lathas and his brother Tryas. They both lived in Ardougne, East and West respectively.
Next was the Tree Gnome Village. The Gnomes, despite their small stature, were incredibly renowned for the zeal in battle and the agility they possessed.
Morytania, the home of vampires and werewolves. Although I had been there a couple of times after rescuing a certain priest in peril some time ago, I was unfamiliar with the territory. Kzahar assured me that he was however, and was very used to dealing with werewolves, or hairy problems as he called them. I decided not to question him on that.
The Khandarian Desert was next, mainly the town of Al Kharid. The Sultan owed me a favour or two after I rescued his son Prince Ali, the time to cash in on those favours was at hand.
Tirannwn, a place I am completely unfamiliar with. Lydia wasn't however, it was the Elves that had trained her in archery.
The Fremennik Province. I am considered one of them after passing a series of tests, recruiting these hardy warriors should not prove to be difficult.
Keldagrim, birth place of many Dwarves. Dwarves, despite being grumpy and drunk most of the time, have technology that no one else has, namely a blast furnace and cannons.

Rose was going to go and talk to her peers at the Wizards Tower, they hopefully would be willing to help. With the combined efforts of all of these factions, we would stand a much better chance at beating our foes.
Yamabushi had told us the most likely course of attack for Tunoi’s army. The undead would amass to the north, then march to the borders of Varrock and Edgeville. With these towns taken, they would then proceed in all directions, slowly taking over the Kingdoms. There was also another problem, the brainwashed cultist* that were under Tuoni’s control were also involved. Yamabushi told us that most of the barracks were situated on islands to the south, much like the island we were held on. The cultists were going to sail towards the mainland, take over Karamja, then use that as a base to spearhead an attack from there.

I was sure that no-one would stand by and let all of this happen, so the recruitment we were partaking in was more of a warning. If everyone knew what was going to happen, and banded together, we would, with any luck, be able to defend ourselves to some effect.

We had a rough few days ahead of us, with all the traveling and speaking to people there would be little time to train and prepare for the imminent invasion. Another factor to consider was the field of energy the Listeners were establishing. It could potentially send people mad, which would hinder our efforts even further.
With a plan laid out, we all headed our separate ways, with the intention of meeting up again in two days time.
We all had anxious looks on our faces as we left and said our goodbyes. I was the last to leave. As I stepped outside into the afternoon sun, I took in a deep breath. The trials I had been through were nothing compared to what was coming, the fate of Runescape was in our hands.

I set off.

Ice cold fingers wrapped themselves around my neck, horrid sets of teeth aimed to bite into my flesh. I desperately tried to escape the grip the undead had upon me, but it was no use.
There were hundreds of them, surrounding me, aiming to make kill me and devour my corpse. Resistance was useless, I could not beat them alone!
Again and again I tried to pull away, the more I struggled, the tighter the grip became. I felt my lungs dispel the last of the air, and rotten fangs bite into my torso. Darkness enveloped me as death claimed yet another victim.

I awoke from my nightmare with a scream. This was the third night in a row I had these horrific dreams, each one getting progressively worse.
I swung my legs out of the bed and stood up. I glanced out of the window and looked at the moon. It must have been about three in the morning. I heard a knock on the door, and the night porter's voice call out.
“You all right in there mate?”
“Yeah, I’m okay,” I replied.
I heard him walk away, and I returned to my bed.
I was in Varrock Castle. King Roald had listened to me, and reacted with horror at what I had told him. He promised me the full force of the Varrock militia, and the services of his people, if need be. He had allowed me to stay within his castle, to help prepare the guard.
I had seen some of the others two days ago, and the preparations were going well. We had so far recruited the mages of both the Wizards Tower and Yanille, the militia of East Ardougne, the full co-operation of the White Knights, as well as the Elves. I had not yet seen Kzahaar, I assumed that he was still in negotiations with whatever dark forces ruled Morytania.
I was to go to Relleka later today to speak with the council there. I had been busy of late, and had little sleep. I tried to sleep again, and rested my head against the pillow.
Another knock rapped against the door, I thought the night porter had left me alone for the night.

“Hello?” I called out, wondering who was there.
The door opened, and Rose walked in. She had my cloak draped over her shoulders, and a tired look on her face.
“Rose, what are you doing here?” I asked, sitting up.
“I couldn’t sleep, I keep having nightmares,” she answered, sitting next to me.
“You shouldn’t have come here so late, it’s dangerous, there are bandits about.”
She smiled and looked at me. “Bandits I can handle, nightmares are something different. Can I stop here with you tonight?”
I nodded and lay back down, “we should get some rest, I have to go to Relleka tomorrow.”
Rose took off my cape and lay down next to me. “Can I come with you?”
“Sure. You seen Kzahar yet?”
“Yes, he’s back safe and sound. He’s bought back some very strange equipment with him.”
“Oh? I wonder where he got that from.”
“Don’t know, he said something about some brothers."
"Interesting. Tell me, what were your nightmares about?"
"It was so strange. I was walking about Falador, doing some shopping. All of a sudden an adventurer appeared from nowhere, and started attacking people. He had The Staff of Ancient Magick, and he massacred hundreds. I couldn't move, I just stood there watching him. He suddenly turned to me, and then I woke up."
"That's horrible. I've been having nightmares too, mostly about the undead. I think either Tuoni or this magic field has something to do with it."
Rose turned onto her side and rested her head on her folded arm. "Do you think we'll all survive this?"
I turned my head and locked eyes with her.
"I don't have any plans on dying yet, Rose. And I'm sure as hell not going to let anything happen to you or the others."
Rose smiled, and lay back down on her back. "You're sweet. Let's get some rest, I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
"Okay." I closed my eyes, awaiting sleep. It eventually took me, and I slept better than I had in days.

I awoke with the sun in my face. Rose was already up, standing on the balcony overlooking Varrock. She turned around as I sat up.
"Come on, sleepy head, we've got to get moving."
I quickly got up and threw some clothes on.
"Ready!" I beamed, and opened the door. "After you."
"No, after you," she pointed to me, and the bedroom melded around her. The walls slowly melted away, and bright sunshine appeared all around us. The Castle of Camelot appeared, and Rose appeared next to me. I looked at her in awe, "you can cast Teleother spells now?"
She simply smiled and walked away, with a bounce in her step.
I caught up with her, and we both headed north, towards the Fremennik Province.
I had taken a trial concocted by these brave Viking-like people a few months ago, and they had made me one of their own after I eventually passed. I even had my own Fremennik name, Dokkir.
I was planning to speak to the Chieftain Brunt, I was hoping that he would be willing to help us.
As we approached Relleka, something seemed different. I had been here many times before, and the surrounding area was ominous anyway, but something was not right. It seemed darker than usual. Rose seemed to be thinking the same thing.
“Something’s not right here,” she said nervously, looking around.
I looked to the north, trying to catch a glimpse of Relleka. I could see dark grey wisps of smoke rising up into the sky, and could hear a faint sound of shouting.
“Let’s go," I said, and broke into a run. Rose quickly followed.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
“I don’t know, but I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
“You don’t have any armour on, and you haven’t brought your sword.”
She was right, how could I have forgotten my equipment?
“Don’t worry about it,” I said.
We finally reached the borders of Relleka to witness the horrors that plagued them. Guards were struggling to keep a large group of zombies and skeletons under control.

Some of Relleka's most hardy warriors were there as well, along with Brundt. He caught sight of me approaching.
“By the Gods, Dokkir, your timing is exceptional. Your state of armament is not, however. Take this.”
He handed me a Fremmenik blade.
“What’s happening here?” I asked him.
“The brave warriors that we have buried in the past have come back to haunt us. We must have angered them somehow. They all dug themselves out of their graves, and started attacking the village.”
“This is the work of a force that you don’t understand Brundt. Let us put these undead to rest, and I shall explain all to you. Rest assured, their souls are not angry with you.”
“Then let us get to work.”
I quickly approached a small group of zombies who were trying to get into one of the houses. I readied my blade and brought it into the hide of one of the disgusting cadavers. He turned around in time for me to remove his head, and I stepped back a couple of strides to prepare for the others to attack me. A fire wave screamed past, and obliterated one of the zombies. I looked behind me to see Rose firing off spells with lethal force, brilliant waves of energy firing from her hands in an excellent show of wizardry.
A skeleton lumbered its way towards me, and tried to hit me with a rusted blade it must have been buried with. I side stepped out of the way, and brought my blade into its skull. It smashed, and the skeleton fell down.
All around us were undead. Zombies and skeletons ambled around, seeking human flesh. It was just like one of the nightmares I had been having. A few of the Rellekan buildings were on fire, and women and children were seeking cover. Most of the men were out, fighting to protect their village.

I charged at one of the zombies, and sliced off the monster’s arm. It fell to the ground, the rotten fingers still grasping at the air. The zombie moaned and swung its remaining arm towards me. I used my palm to block the attack, and kicked at its chest. As it stumbled backwards I brought my blade in an upwards arc, tearing open the chest cavity and throat of my opponent. It fell down, no longer able to make use of its body.
I felt a strong grip take hold of my shoulder, and I quickly grabbed at the hand. As I took hold, the zombie was ripped apart by a water wave. I looked to see Rose give me a quick nod, then continue spell casting.
We were finally managing to control the numbers of undead, and it was about time. A few zombies still wandered about, with the Rellekan warriors quickly dispatching them back to the realm of the dead.
I looked into the sky, the clouds were thick, a storm was fast approaching. I yelled out, “I know you’re watching this Tuoni, I hope you understand that we will not let you simply destroy us!”
A flash of lightening struck down onto one of the houses, setting the straw roof on fire. Some of the women began running around with buckets, ferrying some of the seawater to put it out.
“I could of quite easily killed you then,” A voice said from behind me. I turned around to see Tuoni.
“We meet again,” I grunted, readying my blade.
“Please, your pathetic attempts to stop me will only result in a long, drawn-out death, for both you and your friends. Give in to the inevitable, resistance is futile.”
“You’re wrong old man. I’ll see to it myself that you are struck down.”

Tuoni said nothing. He just stood there, holding his staff with both hands. His hood still covered most of his face. He finally spoke.
“You know nothing human. I assume that worm Yamabushi told you everything he thought he knew about our history. Well, he only told you half of it.”
He seemed to be laughing, though if he was, I couldn’t hear it very well.
“This will be the third time we have wiped out you human scum. It’s a little something we have grown rather accustomed to doing, and we are getting rather good at it.”
I sneered at him, “worthless old man, how can that be? We are here now, if you wiped us out, I wouldn’t be standing here.”
“Those accursed Gods of yours seem to enjoy having you about. They have recreated you foul creatures every time we have destroyed you. I must admit, our methods this time are a little, well, crude compared to past efforts, but whatever works.*
*What the hell is the point of killing something that just keeps coming back?” I demanded, angry at this fool’s arrogance.
Tuoni looked up, and for the first time we made eye contact. It was like looking into the pits of hell itself. Blood red pools of evil watched me with intent.
“Because its the only way we can get vengeance on the accidents you call Gods. Plus, it’s just plain fun.”
I sprinted at Tuoni, spinning my blade in my hand so it landed in a defensive position along my forearm. At the same time, a fire wave raced past me aimed directly at our foe. The fire wave dissipated into nothing, however, and Tuoni waved his left hand. I felt a powerful force take hold of my legs, and I was flung into the air. I landed on my back, and had to roll out of the way of my blade as it came crashing down.
