Zadie threw her car in park and bashed her head into the steering wheel. It had been a rough morning. She had thrown a going away party last night and put off packing until early the next day. Then she had slept through her four alarms.
All in all, she had barely gotten here on time.
She grabbed the to-go coffee she had bought on the way and got out of her car. It was a cheap Impala she had gotten used from a family member, and her hastily loaded duffel bags were tossed haphazardly in the back seat. Argentvale had a low crime rate, but after having attended for two years, she felt the school brought people with strange vibes, so she locked the car just to be safe. Not all the students were weird, but very few of them were normal. Most came from a lot of money, which creates a sort of obliviousness. Great for parties though!
Milling around the dock, she eventually made it to the railing at edge of the dock. The ferry of first years was already headed to campus. She turned back to the parking lot, leaning against the railing. She missed an opportunity to assess the new blood, but she’d meet them soon enough. Some of her friends from the previous years weren’t returning, and a few of them had gotten weird midway through, so she’d developed the skill of discovering the party groups midway through the year. Mostly it meant meeting a lot of new people all the time.
To her left, she noticed a very short goth girl next to a very tall stack of luggage. She chuckled a bit at the difference. For a mere moment Zadie thought she recognized her, but upon further reflection she didn’t think so. Ever since last spring semester, she had gotten that feeling often around campus, and she had learned to ignore it because it more often than not wasn’t true. Still, the girl looked a little lonely, or maybe wistful, staring out at the ferry. Perfect for an introduction!
