Valtir said. "What village is this?" He asked for lack of a better question. "Nobody truly remembers the name" the healer said, "Though most of us call the place The Lorik. Perhaps it's a bit unoriginal but it serves." Valtir nodded as Ned gave him some water. "I thank you for your hospitality, healer, but I do not wish to be a burden, If you would be so kind as to lead me to the Inn..." The healer interrupted, "I would not be much of a help to you if I let you go wander off before you are ready. No you will stay."
Valtir smiled, happy that he did not have to leave, his head felt like it weighed more than his armor. His armor... "Where did you put my mail?" he asked bluntly. The healer looked to Ned who said "I gave your equipment to the town smithy to help fix it up, It was in bloody pathetic shape." It was just then that Valtir realized Ned's voice was as deep as he was tall and strong. Valtir was almost speechless, "I don't have the coin to compensate you for all you have done for me." He said embarrassed. The healer would have none of it. "You will not need to pay me in coin, we will work something out, do not worry." he said smiling.
Ned placed a flagon of water next to the bed and filled his cup once more. The healer patted Valtir's leg once more telling him to rest before taking his leave. Valtir sat back when he was alone, looking out his little window at the downpour. (I forgot to ask how long I was asleep for.) he realized, but he didn't need to ask to know the rain had not stopped falling, the little puddles he had seen upon entering the village had become small lakes.
He sat there thinking, remembering despite his best efforts. The bells ringing, his blood turning solid, unable to move. He remembered thinking it had been only three days since taking the city, now it was under siege again. He rubbed tears from his eyes. He saw Guyard run past him to the door, and he ran outside. The screeching echoed through his head, growing louder and closer...

When the door opened again it wasn't Guyard, or Meivar or anyone else he knew. It was a monster. His head hanging halfway off. His discolored rotting skin smelled of death and he had an arrow lodged through his eye, but he ignored it all. He didn't know how but he had unsheathed his longsword. The thing screeched inhumanely when it saw him, and his bladder released soaking his plate and mail. He didn't know what to do, cry, scream, run... all thought left his mind and he charged at it.
His heart was pounding something wicked when he reached it and drove his blade so deep into it's belly he could not pull it free. The thing ignored it completely as if he hadn't done it. The beast threw his hand forward and a longsword came bolting, Valtir had somehow dodged it. His wits left him, he let go of the sword and he ran for the cellar. It wasn't until he escaped the city that he realized he had been bleeding, he felt his head and nearly fainted, the beasts sword had sliced him halfway down to the skull.
Now he was back in the healers bed, though he couldn't relieve himself of the beasts lifeless white eyes. He felt tears coming down from his own eyes, he used the sheets to wipe them away. He waited until the next day when the Healer came back to tell him about what happened. Upon hearing the tale the healer left the room, he returned several minutes later holding four tomes. "I believe I know what you saw." He said sitting down on the bed. He found the book he wanted and opened it flipping through the pages quickly. "Greenish gray skin.... White eyes... Yes..." He sounded distraught.
"My knight. I believe that what you saw was a Draugr."

Chapter three: Raylov
Raylov had taken a liking to Borthi, the only other dwarf in this motley crew they called a resistance. Lord Roham had been tyrannical as it was, but now he was styling himself king. The cavern they were in was brightly lit by the makeshift hearth in the corner and the torches spread around the area. Light reflecting off the pool in the northern area helped provide some light too. The other men had laid out bedrolls and set up some cooking spits. Raylov was clad in steel chainmail with plates covering the shoulders, and heart. His halfhelm was more beaten than his armor and his hammer was as tall as he was.
They had been brought together by a knight named Merlon who never spoke of why he wanted to fight his lord. Today a new member was joining the dozen that already existed, Some ranger. (Cowards fight with bows.) Raylov thought as the men gathered in a circle around the pool with Merlon and the new man in the center of it, water coming up to their ankles. The new man knelt down in front of the knight who had drawn his longsword. "Do you on this day swear to fight Lord Roham and free the realm from his tyranny?" Merlon asked. "I do." Said the man, "And do you swear fealty to no man, but to the freedom of the realm?" Merlon asked, "I do." said the man.
Sir Merlon touched his sword lightly on each of the mans shoulders, "Then on this day I name thee Sir Robyk of the caverns." He said, then the man stood up. Raylov and the others all unsheathed their weapons and held them high shouting "Sir Robyk!" to welcome their new brother. "Feel free to decline an answer if you wish for you are a free man, but if you would answer, why is it that you wish to fight Lord Roham?" Merlon asked. "Lord Roham turns a blind eye to the cruel acts in which his officers partake in, one of them forced himself on my wife, and put a child in her belly." Robyk said.

"Then they executed my friend Torlov for deserting during the fall of Ysmora, I deserted as well and I'm not ashamed of it because what we saw there... Will stay with me for as long as I live." Robyk said. Merlon looked powerful as he spoke, "You will be a welcomed addition to our group my friend, go, eat, warm yourself." he said. Borthi and Raylov walked back to the ale casks they were sitting at before and returned to their cups.
"Our band grows every day." Borthi said as he drank. Borthi was a fat dwarf, though fierce and loyal, with a great brown beard that he put into one great braid much as he did his long brown hair. Raylov himself was a poor dwarf, Slim for a dwarf and strong, though shorter than most, and swarthy. He had the shortest beard of any dwarf he had met before and was bald on top with human like features. He spoke much more like a human than a Dwarf as well, where Borthi had a thick Dwarven accent.
The most awkward thing about Raylov was that he did not have such a love of ale as most Dwarves would. He liked to call himself loyal as well, and had a love of battle but cared naught for the pleasures of the flesh. Borthi was his polar opposite, though they did both love battle Borthi was with women all the time and loved to drink. He didn't know why they were such good friends, (maybe we say we like eachother so that we can each stay in the company of a dwarf.) Raylov thought taking a sip of his ale, Borthi was already on his third cup.
Robyk was making his rounds, meeting everyone and before long he came to see the two Dwarves. "Hello, I'm told that you are the sir's Borthi and Raylov?" He put a fist over his heart as a greeting and brought it back down. "It is a pleasure to meet you." Raylov said but Borthi kept to his drinking. "I'm Raylov, thats Borthi." Borthi extended a hand with a mug of ale in it, Robyk took it and drank. "It is good to meet you two as well, I will go finish speaking with the other men and talk to you when we next meet.

Robyk walked off toward the other end of the cavern where the hearth was burning to meet the smithy.

Chapter four: Robyk
He sat awake in his bed, his wife's head on his chest, her fast asleep. He stroked her blonde hair thinking how lucky he was that he lived to see her again. (I did it for you.) he thought. (I did it out of love.) He kept telling himself. He had joined an underground rebellion set to liberate the realm from the grasp of Lord Roham, He told himself he joined because of his wife and her illegitimate child, but maybe this had been a long time coming. He had always known Roham was ruthless, maybe this was bound to happen. The guards would kill him anyway had they learned about his desertion with Torlov. (And Aveline is right in the middle of it because of me.)
Aveline stirred and opened her eyes. "Good morning love." she said. "Good morning Ave." He replied. She leaned up and kissed him, then sat up in the bed next to him, holding the sheets up to cover her bare chest. "This is our last day in this city." Robyk said. "Soon it will be overcome by dangers I do not wish for you to face. I'm sending you to live with my father in the Lorik forest, you must bring him word that I'm alive as well, he deserves to know."
"No." Said Aveline, "I don't want to be apart again, my sweet, we've only just come together again." She complained. "I know Ave but staying here will only get you hurt. I already have a caravan willing to take you, I payed them in advance." He said. "Promise I will see you soon." She said. "I promise you shall see me soon my dear." (Dead or alive.) he thought. "Gather your things Ave, you leave at midday." He rolled out of bed.

He dressed in a painted leather jerkin, gray and white, Some wool breeches, a belt with a bag attached on either side, a leather satchel around the shoulder, some leather boots with shinguard's, and some black leather gloves. He also put on an old faded red cloak and hood. When he was fully dressed Aveline got out of bed and hugged him tight to her before even getting clothed. "Come back to me Rob." she said. "I will." it was all he could think to say. He knew he would not be returning to the house, so he took some food from the larder, two loaves of bread, some salted beef, some jerky to chew on, and two onions. He left a bag on the kitchen table containing three hundred gold pieces for Aveline to take on her trip.
"I love you." She said to him one last time. He kissed her on the forehead, deciding that it would speak volumes as to how he felt about leaving her behind, more than any words could. He walked outside, it was a rather warm day, or at least by standards of the mountain kingdom's, and the rain had finally stopped. He made his way through the city crowds to the gate, It was open as usual though now guards stood in the entrance. When Robyk tried to pass through one of them clad in iron chainmail with a tabbard signifying his allegiance to Ornica and Lord Roham, held out a hand to stop him.
Two more walked up on either side of him as he said, "Sir, would you please remove your hood?" Robyk saw no reason to deny the request. He pulled his hood black to show his short hair and tight beard. The guards looked to one another. "Sir, I need you to face the wall for me." Robyk noticed one pull out some irons out of the corner of his eye. Robyk turned and looked at the wall, and then saw Ave standing farther back watching him, distraught.
(Gods, I'm unarmed. I couldn't take all three of them alone anyway...) He thought, his heart was pumping.

His mind was drawing a blank, the guard insisted once more that he face the wall, Aveline was now gone from view, He was standing still, doing nothing yet it felt like a million things were happening at once. He slowly walked up to the wall and put his hands behind his back. He felt cold iron touch his wrists, and lock tightly. A guard put a hand on his shoulder to tug him along and he felt his feet betray him and move where the guard lead him.
He found himself being taken to the city square. When he got there, he saw empty ropes hanging from the gallows, already made nooses. (Gods be good...) he thought as they drew closer. Once they had made it up the steps the guard that arrested him put slid one of the ropes around his neck, two others in full mail and helm's with visors covering the better half of their faces stood on either side of him. After a moment of silently standing there, a steward walked up the steps wearing brown robes. Robyk found himself looking about the city. He looked into the crowd, he saw Aveline holding back tears, and Borthi looking completely abashed.
"On this day, Lord Roham does sentance you to die." Was all Robyk heard the Steward say. "Do you have anything to say for yourself?" He asked. Robyk shook his head, too afraid to speak, he felt tears well up as the guard came closer to the release. The guard yanked it back only... He didn't fall. One of the guards who wore a visor had shoved his blade down into the gears of the release and jammed it, he had proceeded to push the executing guard off the stage into the crowd, Then Robyk saw a flash of steel and the other guard sliced the rope about his neck. Robyk fell to his knees and felt one of the guards help him up.
Other guards were running closer when members of the mob drew steel to fight them off. Robyk didn't know if he was confused, scared, or overjoyed. The guard that helped him up was yanking him along by the arm to exit the gallows.

When they made it down the steps the guard who rescued him drove his longsword through the back of another guard who was turned away fighting one of the armed citizens, he pulled it back out all glimmering with red. The guard pulled him along by the arm, tugging him harshly to make him run. When they found themselves away from the main mob the man said "Come on lad were almost out." They kept running until they reached the gates.
When they did, two guards came to stop them, One of them swung at Robyk's savior who deflected the blow easily enough, the other came for Robyk, but the one who came for Robyk was stopped in his tracks. Next thing he knew Robyk saw an arrow jutting through the guards throat, blood squirted out onto Robyk's face. His savior was being overpowered by the brawny guard that was fighting him until an arrow took that one through the back of the knee and he was disposed of by a sword through the neck.
When they finally made it out of the city they met Sir Donyl wielding a bow. Donyl had blood smeared across his chest and flakes of blood in his golden curls that made him look more powerful than he actually was. He joined their party as they ran for the tree that led into the sanctuary. Under the great oak was a hole, three feet wide by four feet long. Robyk's savior grabbed his wrists and smashed the Iron's off with a few blows with a rock, then he descended the ladder, followed by Robyk, then Donyl.
Robyk had never been so happy to be in such a dank, humid place. Merlon soon came to them. Robyk's savior pulled off his helmet and revealed that he was actually Sir Irve posing as a royal guard. "Are you well Robyk?" Robyk nodded but then when his heart stopped beating so quickly he felt a stab in his shoulder. Donyl looked at him and said "No Rob, you're not." Merlon turned him around and looked as well. "We need to get this out, now." he said grimly.

He didn't remember it, but he must have fainted. He woke up on a bed roll, shirtless and bandaged across the chest. Irve was with him, Robyk had never payed attention to how Irve looked until now. Irve looked very unique, Icy pale eyes, Shaggy black hair, a black goatee, sharp features, a nose to rival an eagle, and shoulders to shame an ox. "You took an arrow friend." He said in an accent indicating he was from the far north.
"You will be fine, just don't over-use your right arm for a while." He said smiling. Robyk coughed. "What happened?" was all he could muster. "A traitor in our midst. He gave Roham information, the guards no of this place now, and all of us. We shall have to evacuate soon, before the confusion in done." Robyk nodded, "Did we lose anyone?" he had to ask. "We lost Sir Othor, the one who was with us on the gallows, and Sir Desmond. But we completed the mission, we showed Roham that were standing up to him, and gained a dozen more men." Explained Sir Irve.
Robyk sat up. "Thank you Sir, I'll be alright." Irve stood up, and nodded then walked off toward the hearth. (Aveline...) Robyk thought to himself, and he began to weep.

Chapter five: Valtir
He had been out of bed for two days now, helping old Bert the healer with errands. (This is what I want. No more war, I'm not made for war.) He had said to himself a day past. The sun had just fully risen as he and ned sat down for breakfast, Bert came into the dining room when it was all ready. They broke their fast on bacon with bread Ned had purchased the night before. When Valtir finished he left out the door to go feed the chickens and as he finished he saw a caravan entering the village.
The one driving the carriage was older, at least five and forty, with receding gray hairs covering his head and a gray-white beard.

A younger boy, maybe ten years old rode a pony to the side of the caravan, he could only have been the mans son, he had the look of him though with a bit less gray in his hair. and in the back of the carriage rode a woman, very fair looking with tan skin and fair hair, and blue eyes you could drown in. The caravan stopped and the woman crawled out the back, the man and his son got off their seats and went to the back picking up sacks of grain. The sun was finally out, it was warm, and a beautiful woman was walking Valtir's way, (What a joyous day this is.) He thought excitedly.
"Hello" the woman said, "I'm looking for Bert, do you know where I can find him?" The woman asked. Valtir felt a little embarrassed. "Aye, right here." He pointed a thumb over his shoulder at the healer's house. "I'll show you in ma'am." Valtir said as he started back toward the door. When they got inside Valtir offered her a chair which she accepted, "I'll go fetch him." He walked off and found Bert in the study reading some tome. "Healer, There's some woman in the kitchen looking for you." Bert looked up, "Who is it?" He asked. "Don't know, but shes prettier than any other girl in this town ten times over." Bert stood and shuffled toward the door.
When the two men reached the kitchen the girl stood and Bert's eyes lit up. "Aveline! What brings you here?" He moved in and hugged the woman. "Robyk sent me from Ornica, he said the city would be overcome by... Some horror. The day I was to be sent off, They tried to hang Robyk." She said. "Is he okay?" Bert sounded abashed. "Yes, yes, he's fine. Some men cut the rope before they could hang him, he escaped the city. I was almost killed, had I not made it to the caravan that brought me here I would be lying in a gutter somewhere." Bert touched her shoulder to tug her over to the table. "Well you must be wary, sit, eat, rest. We will take care of you sweetling." He said.
Valtir interrupted their happy conversation, "Did you say Robyk?"
