--- Chapter Two ---

As Joppi pressed enter, a tingling sensation overcame him. His eyes widened as the computer screen began ebbing at the edges, pixels shifting as it rumbled. Sparks flew from the opened corners as it gurgled and, without warning, wrapped itself around Joppi'* face and pulled him into the vortex. In a fit, Joppi began to squirm, causing the kitten to hop from its master as Joppi'* body was pulled within the machine.

Lights zoomed past his ethereal body as he flew through an abyss, streaks of colors flying near him. To his sides, he saw other beings being teleported to their destination, all in colorful portals that strafed away from him as he pierced through an invisible barrier, floating slowly through an entirely dark void. “Man,” Joppi sighed as he FacePalmed himself, floating in the black space. Seconds after he uttered it, air assailed him as he plummeted. From behind his hands, his eyes could make out a circle far below him, glowing brilliantly topaz and nearing each second.

“Oof!” he blew out his air as he landed on his ankles, bouncing off the ground and landing hard on his back. He moaned as he rubbed his sore ankles. A shadow covered his upper body as a young man stood above him, his long brown hair falling over the stranger’s face.

“Get up, Joppi."

"Jeez, do you have to make the ground granite, Genzen?!” Joppi grumbled as he hobbled his way up. Genzen did*’t lend a hand, but merely smirked as he gruffly slapped Joppi'* forearm. “Can’t you change the landing?”

“Yes, but I won’t,” Genzen replied as he and Joppi cut a path towards an alley. They were on a cobblestone street, Victorian houses side by side as oil lamps were erected on each street corner. “Falling twenty feet onto granite makes you stronger.”

“Y’know, you’re lucky this isn‘t real, otherwise we’d all be dead.”

“Oh,” Genzen sighed as he deliberately bent his head to the left, “well,” he finished as his head went to the right.

“Help,” a moan came from below. A man was dragging himself with his arms, his legs brutally cracked. A feeble hand reached up and out as he grasped Genzen’s pants.

Genzen’s boot planted itself on the man’s face as he and Jo*pi entered the alley.

"Hey, Genzen."

Genzen turned around sharply and muttered, "Yeah?"

"What's with the lack of, y'know, lighting?" Joppi inquired with interest. He had gone through the alleyway several times, but never understood why Genzen hadn't fixed it up to include a more inviting atmosphere.

Genzen stared at Joppi for a few moments before shaking his head in disappointment. Then, with a firm motion, he slapped Joppi straight across the face, leaving a large red mark as Joppi was speechless in response. Genzen sighed and replied, "Does it look like I care?"

Joppi shook his head violently and Genzen nodded before turning and continuing on their journey down the blackened hallway. Soon, there was a blinding white light that appeared at the far side of the abyssal area, and Joppi covered his eyes from the quick change of atmosphere, stuttering, "W-What's that?!"

"... Um," Genzen replied, "that would be the main room. You... You didn't know that?"

Joppi smiled sheepishly and quickly shouted, "Yes! Of course!" He then rubbed the back of his neck and motioned for Genzen to continue to lead the way.

Genzen, once again, nodded and made his way into the following room. Joppi took in everything that was present there, including the large number of doors up and down the sides of the room, each leading to a different place and a different set of people. Joppi noted the names of each place engraved upon each and every door.

"Now," Genzen began, "there is someone I would like you to meet." With this, he pointed towards the door labeled "News and Announcements", and Joppi slowly walked over to the wooden frame and opened it, revealing yet another difficult task for him to overcome.

"Well, it looks like a couple more people invited a newcomer..." Genzen said wistfully as he waited for Joppi to enter through the door. Joppi remained silent, but a quiet groan emanated from his being as he walked through the door.

The room was black, save for a single, white string dangling in the middle of the room. Joppi made his way towards the string, pulling it to turn on the light bulb above. As his eyes were penetrated by bright light, he jumped back and shrieked.

"Yo, what's poppin'?" a man asked him quizzically, raising an eyebrow. The man had an extraordinarily loud, nasal voice that wheedled itself into Joppi'* brain. "Likin' what you see?" he grinned, stretching out his arms and bending back, letting his abnormally large belly protrude out from the tight shirt he had on. The tight, plaid shirt was printed with large white letters that spelled out the alphabet.

"No..." Joppi whispered, terrified as he backed away, "not really..."

"Sit?" the man asked as he pulled a table closer to them. He motioned for the petrified Joppi to come towards the newcomer, and sighed, as if he didn't have all day. "C'mon, I have a cardio class to kick up soon!" he whined, placing his leg on top of the table as his foot broke right through the wood. As the wood snapped, the fat on his leg jiggled violently.

"Sweet Saradomin..." Joppi whispered as he shivered. "A-are you the guy I need to mentor?"

"Yes, sir," the stranger grinned, showing his one tooth as he scratched his thick, bushy hair. "I'm Letters, by the way."

"Uh, don't want to know," Joppi replied as he pinched his nose and sidled his way towards the table. He didn't sit down, however, as the astoundingly large leg was still occupying the table. "So, uh, want to go out and get started?"

"Oh, not really!" Letters said cheerfully. "It's just the two of us in here, so why don't we talk for a bit?"

"Uh," Joppi stuttered, "don't really want to. Dark room, all alone, you're wearing short-shorts... Not a good idea."
