"No...Saren," croaked Kaisen.
"I can't help it," Saren muttered to him. The moments passed by. "This is the end, Kaisen. I failed. I only hope that you will forgive me for what happened today."
"You know that I trust you."
"Yes, I know."
Saren bowed his head. Death was but a moment away. It is hard to imagine facing death, but he was prepared. He was a Temple Knight, and he had a world to fight for. "It is done," he said softly.
The blue glow vanished.

Agaben didn't waste a second. He released the final Flames of Zamorak from his staff. The fireball sailed through the air and collided with Saren's body, burning him alive. The Flames were far too powerful. It burned the spot where Saren stood, ensuring his death.
"Saradomin...is...angry!" called a voice from the smoke.
That didn't make sense. How was Saren still alive? Then, Kaisen saw something that made his spine shiver. Saren's body was floating in the air, dead. His eyes had turned orange, and an orange glow surrounded his body.
"Saradomin...calls for...Retribution!"
Agaben took a step back in fear. The sky over the palace was pitch black, but not for long. A huge rift appeared. It was a solid orange streak across the sky that stood out like a crow in a snowstorm. Suddenly, a burst of orange fire emerged and consumed Saren's body, leaving nothing behind.
Then, a second burst fell to the earth like a lightning bolt. Agaben ran, but he could not escape it. His body was incinerated as well. The Dark Lord had finally met his end.
Kaisen lay on his back, observing the scene. He saw the rift glow, and he knew he was too close. It didn't matter. He was ready to die now.
Another column of fire fell over Kaisen, and he knew no more.
Before the rift vanished, Saradomin had one last task. One more column fell, but it was much larger than anything before. The Rage of Saradomin was great, and the fire consumed everything. The entire Palace of Agaben was gone, reduced to ruins, just like the evil empire he had built.
It was over.

--------Epilogue: Skies of Silver---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saren was nowhere. He resumed consciousness in nothingness, a huge zone of white, where nothing existed. He didn't understand. Was he dead? If so, then the Gaze of Saradomin had left him.
Then, he noticed that Kaisen was sitting beside him. The mage looked serene. It was odd seeing him in such peace. It suddenly occurred to Saren that he had never seen Kaisen so peaceful before because the mage had always been carrying the burden of the dragon egg.
Then, Saren realized that he must be dead. Kaisen was here.
A burst of power reverberated throughout the strange dimension. A figure appeared beside them. It was a man, but an unearthly man. He had long gray hair and a dazzling white robe. Kaisen opened his eyes and saw who it was.
It must have been Saradomin.
"Thank you both," he said. "You have destroyed Agaben and kept the balance between our respective religions. There were many times when you could have given up, but you did not. This quest will not be forgotten by anyone, ever. I will personally assure you of that." As Saren's eyebrow began to raise, he added, "Saren, I do not wish to give you the implication that you will remain here in the world of the dead. I will return you to Falador momentarily."
"I am going to live again?" Saren asked hopefully.
"Yes, you are."

Saren turned to Kaisen. "I will miss you, Kaisen," he said gently.
"And I you, Saren," Kaisen replied.
"Wait, what are you talking about?" asked Saradomin.
"I am saying goodbye to Kaisen before I go back to Falador."
"Can't you just tell him that back in Falador?"
"What?"
Saradomin sighed. "I mean that you are going back to Falador with Kaisen anyway."
"How? The Gaze of Saradomin only works for Temple Knights!"
Saradomin's eyes twinkled. "I think that we can make this an exception." He turned to Kaisen. "For services rendered, I hereby bestow you with the Gaze of Saradomin."
"You mean that I can't die?" asked Kaisen.
"No," Saradomin replied. "It means that I will save you from death only as long as you are useful to me. After that, you die naturally."
"Then let's go!" Kaisen said eagerly.
"Very well. Good luck to both of you in life, as heroes."

The day was happy and sad. In Falador, the soldiers rejoiced at their victory. But there was a solemn ceremony taking place in the courtyard of the castle.
Sir Amik Varze led the procession. He was followed by Sir Tiffy Cashien, Zavistic Rarve (on crutches from weakness), Jian, and Kalda. White Knights watched as they reverently approached the castle doors with holy symbols.
"Today, we mourn the deaths of Saren and Kaisen," Varze announced. "Their tragic deaths so early in life were the single force that brought down Zamorak's Dark Lord, and saved Asgarnia from destruction. They deserve to be carried through the streets as heroes, but their bones still lie in the Wilderness, as we were unable to find them. Today, we bestow on them the highest honors we give our dead."
Kalda cried. She was dressed in a black robe, as it was custom to dress in black to mourn. She couldn't handle that Kaisen could have saved himself, but he chose instead to save her.
"They proved that there is good in this world, good that is enough to die for what they believe in," Varze continued. "We must embody this spirit, as this is the way we can honor them."
There were many gasps and murmurs throughout the crowd. Varze wondered for a moment if he had said something improper, and then he saw what caused all the commotion.

Kaisen and Saren appeared in the middle of their own funeral. They barely emerged from the crowd of adoring White Knights alive, they were congratulated so. They got the adoration. They got the honor. But it was not what they wanted.

Kaisen ran to Kalda and embraced her. Her tears remained, but there was no sadness in them now. As he hugged her, Kaisen never wanted to let her go.

A deep roar filled the city. Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda looked up to see a brilliant stream of silver across the sky. It was a aurora of silver light that looked like crystal dust waving in the sunlight. A huge dragon emerged from the aurora, coming to rest on a tower nearby.

It looked directly at Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda and roared once more. No translation was necessary.

"You're welcome," they all said in unison.

King Vallance of Falador was on the back of the dragon, riding the beast. His face was the embodiment of joy. He was smiling like a young child on Christmas Day. "Never doubt your dreams," he called out to them. "You might be riding them someday!"

He waved goodbye to them. The majestic dragon took off into the northern horizon, never to return to Falador. It still had a mission to do.

Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda thanked the White Knights and left. Left to go far away into their mysterious futures. Who knows where they could go? It is unclear where they went as they left Falador that day, but one thing was certain. They were still friends. United they were, and united they would remain. An eternal friendship, that would exist far beyond that moment where they walked out of the Northern Gate of Falador, down the road, and out of sight.

It is complete. My trials have paid off, as I have at long last achieved a great accomplishment, completing my first trilogy. Though this is my first work, I hope that it is not my last. I will be taking a short break, and then I hope to begin a new trilogy. That will be later (though earlier in time in my fictional RuneScape). Tentatively, I think I will entitle the first story "The Prince's Wish." This is subject to change.
You may now post. I encourage you to do so. Tell me what you thought, maybe I can improve in my next story. It is hard to end this tale, but I have done it. So much work, and now you know it all.
Almost. There will always be more stories out there. It is our job as readers to find them.
Until next time, your friend in the forums,
