It was the year 1116; over a millennia after some warlord came from overseas and replaced the old tyranny with a new one. King Osmund the Benevolent has been abroad eight years slaughtering those with a different god or appearance to his own, whilst at home his brother Prince Faramund has just quashed his second barons' rebellion in as many years.

Most of the nation's peacekeepers were performing murders abroad, taxation was high to fund enforcement of keeping taxes high, commoners were persecuted so their fat cat overlords could reap the rewards, and no one anywhere in the country was particularly happy.

It was a time rife for banditry.

There are two ways to be a bandit leader; the easy way and the fun way. The easy way was to be the biggest, meanest, cruellest person around. Keeping your underlings in-line out of pure fear for what your next manic outburst would bring.

The fun way was through guile and showmanship. Donatola Hacierre - the Don to his outlaw band - had found merriment, theatrics and bamboozlement were as sure fire as tyranny in keeping his people placated. A whisker under six feet and more athletically built than brutish strong, the Don had an easy air about him and a pretty, boyish face that belied the cunning depths of his mind.

Hair back in a tight ponytail, loose strands of fringe covering his vision, the Don paced about his suite in the Palace de Façade . It had once been a minor noble's keep, who had come upon hard times and decided to tear down the local village for raw materials to sell and pay off his debts. The villagers paid off their debts in kind by burning the good lord and all his family alive. What was left was a three tiered tower, lurching dangerously to one side, and beneath the floorboards and the facade of ruin was a warren of tunnels, burrows and underground leisure halls that were the pride of this bandit company.

And the bandits themselves? Donatola had all sorts. There were the sociopaths, the cold-blooded killers, the unstable and the deranged. There were the misunderstood, the forgotten, the lost, the spurned. There were dreamers, schemers, adventurers and believers. Outside of their desire to break the law in the most thrilling way, there was little that connected the sorry lot. Except that the Don knew how to handle them.

The dangerous sorts were allowed their cruelties but kept on a short leash. The shrinking violets were given their time in the sun, the optimists had opportunities thrown their way. Those that craved company were given revelry, and those that despised it found solace. It was a mismatched bunch, with skills aplenty and of backgrounds myriad.

Their crimes? Uncountable. Roadside robbery of course topped the list. But outside of simple theft there was burglary, battery, blackmail, fraud, forgery, arson, abduction, impersonation, defenestration, extortion, game fixing, bigamy, grand larceny and the occasional armed insurrection. The Don tried to keep his band well away from the high crimes - murder and the like - but sometimes the occasion did just call for that kind of solution.

Donatola Hacierre sat the Slanted Throne; it was in the top room of the tilted tower of the Palace de Façade, which leaned so dangerously far eastward that the seat itself had to be bolted to the wall. On the room's opposite end the wall had fallen away, making an impromptu pit for the unwary to slide into - or the punished to be thrown down.

The Don descended now from his throne room - carefully, as it was very easy to leave it via the sky if you mis-stepped. The two floors below were mostly bare, made to look as abandoned as the tower itself. It was only when you climbed into the fireplace of the ground floor and shimmed the wooden panel tucked into the right-hand side and slid down the wooden funnel placed there that you truly entered the bandit's kingdom.

The warrens below the watchtower first appeared as a regular larder. If you walked through the cupboard with the hanging meats you passed through a hidden entryway to a wine cellar. The third cask on the left could be opened to reveal an empty barrel with a ladder descending. Should any fool by miraculous intent manage to get that far into the palace, the next room was filled with half a dozen crossbowmen and a horn to alert the whole burrow.

The deeper in you went, the more elaborate it became. What starts out as winding tunnels with minor offshoots eventually leads to grander halls; the kingdom beneath the keep. It would have taken decades to complete, though its founder was only in his early thirties. The earliest members of the motley crew swore the underground network was this vast when they were first recruited; no one knew how the Don had accomplished this feat alone.

"Now lads," said the Don as a fleet of crossbows were instinctively aimed at him. "And ladettes," he demurred in the direction of his feminine compatriots, "Your vigilance moves me. Now move off." The gang broke apart to allow the Don to slip through into the cavernous lair he called a home, to locate his most loyal, his most talented, his most daring and his most unhinged. Donatola Hacierre, bandit chief, sole occupant of the Slanted Throne, had cooked up his latest scheme. He now sought his likeliest champions to implement it.

Name: Arazinakoth "Zin" Tor'lethawik.
Age: 28.
Gender: Male.
Race: Cambion.

Race description: The Cambion are a species of people with features resembling those of demonic entities; with skin tones ranging from red to blue to purple, unusual eye shapes and colours, horns, tails, and rarely some additional strange features like cloven hooves for feet. They have been around for as long as any other race, their exact origins lost to time, but it is widely believed that they are descended from demons and, as such, they are widely persecuted and oppressed - especially in more religious kingdoms. They are among those races considered longer lived, able to reach ages of around 250 naturally and are considered adults at around 20 years old.

Appearance: Zin is a man of around average height, coming in at 5'8" tall and sporting a fit, lithe physique. His skin is a shade of striking crimson, a few scars scattered across his limbs and torso - mainly what seem to be claw scars, shallow, but still visible. A splash of freckles across his nose and cheeks adds a sense of youth to his handsome face, his eyes completely gold yet a slightly lighter shade indicates where his pupils are, his grin a mischievous one with slightly elongated canines that resemble fangs.

Zin's hair is coal black and comes to about his mid-neck lengthwise, his locks loosely curly and left with a natural windswept style - two dark red horns protruding from the upper sides of his head, sticking out from his hair and curling backwards to point behind in a loose resemblance to a set of short goat horns. He seems unable to grow facial hair so is always clean shaven. Finally, protruding from the base of his spine is a 3' long crimson, snake-like tail that tapers to an arrowpoint - it is highly prehensile, though the point of the tail isn't actually sharp, the tail itself is surprisingly strong.

Attire: Out in the field Zin is comfortable wearing his set of leather armour, mainly dark green in

colour and styled like a set of lamellar armour, with their 'plates' of leather. It covers his torso, shoulders and the outer part of his arms, even a collar of sorts that protects his lower neck - underneath it wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt made from Shadespider silk. A set of leather tassets protect his upper legs, a belt around his waist holding a number of small knives and pouches. His trousers are similarly made from Shadespider silk, extending down into his dark leather boots. Finally, a dark green cloak hangs from his back - well-suited to all manner of uses.

Weapon(s): While Zin carries numerous knives on him, both on his belt and hidden away, they are suited for throwing rather than going blade to blade. His main weapon would be his spear, around 6' in length with a darkened steel head - rather elegantly made, flexible and deceptively durable. Much like Zin himself.

Abilities: The young Cambion is particularly skilled at a number of things, obviously his spearmanship and knife throwing are excellent, but his fighting style is best as a hunter. He is exceptionally stealthy even without the use of his shadow magic, able to sneak, stalk, track and overall hunt down whatever he needs to.

As mentioned Zin is talented with the use of shadow magic, a magic that he was born with and made great use of over the years - able to manipulate the shadows into tangible forms, turn them physical or turn himself... less physical, in a sense. He can use them reduce visibility for others or make himself less visible, silence his footsteps and movements, make short jumps between shadows and even slip into someone or something's shadow to be a hidden 'passenger' of sorts, able to emerge at any time and strike... or scare the shit out of someone.

Last, but not least, Zin has a strange connection to a pair of Gloomhounds - he can command them freely, albeit to him they are something akin to family.

What, exactly, are Gloomhounds? Their name is fairly on the nose - they are a species of wolf-like creatures that usually live in the Great Western Shadewood, an immense forest where the sun's rays cannot penetrate the thick canopy, resulting in what seems like a perpetual night. Gloomhounds are natural predators of the Shadewood, having inherent shadow magic capabilities that allow them to better hide themselves, stalk prey and even hide in shadows much like Zin himself, albeit they are far more limited in comparison. They're significantly bigger than ordinary wolves, with dark fur like rolling darkness, red eyes and viciously sharp teeth and claws.

...They're also really fucking adorable when they act like overeager puppies.

Zin's pair of hounds consist of one male and one female; Zathic and Zulia.

History: May fill in later.

Other: Nothing much to speak of, off the top of my head.

Name: Sameya Leonis
Age: Older than the 25 she looks like
Gender: F
Race: Human

Appearance: Sameya is 5’3” with a wiry and dextrous build. Her skin color is slightly on the darker side of average, and she has long black hair that she generally keeps free. She has two puncture scars: one on her chest, inches above her heart, and one on the upper half of her right leg, just above the knee. She also has what appears to be a red falcon’s crest emblem burned into her upper left back, extending up onto her shoulder.

Her face would likely be considered conventionally attractive if not for the blackened and decayed skin around her eyes as well as the snaking tendrils breaking off from the affected spots that snake their way down her cheeks and across her forehead. While they don’t appear to be actively spreading, the sight can be a bit disturbing to some people. For this reason, she generally covers her eyes with a blindfold.

Clothing: In almost all situations, Sameya wears a variation of a white robe. It has been tailored to be more tightly wrapped around her than a normal robe that, say, a monk might wear, while still allowing her free range of mobility and an allowance for minimal protection underneath. A couple of her variations have a heavier armor modification attached to the robe, the heavier versions with it on the exterior while the majority of those that are combat focused are interiorly mounted and therefore not visible from without. Each version is unadorned.

Armament: Sameya has only one weapon: a short spear (about 5 feet long) that is made from radiant sunlight. She doesn’t carry it; the spear can materialize in her grasp whenever she wishes for it to, and dematerialize in the same fashion. It has the appearance of a normal spear: unadorned shaft with a pointed spearhead on the end.

However, the spear itself is, as said, made from sunlight, although this is a slight misnomer as it more accurately carries the form of the sun itself: a construct of raging fusion that brings forth light and heat in great quantities. This is altered when it cycles from day into night, however: during the time when the moon dominates the skies, the spear becomes one of deathly cold, although it still shines with the radiance of the sun’s reflected light. The intensity of both the heat and the cold, as well as the light’s magnitude, can be controlled somewhat, although no matter the intensity the spear will never cause harm to its wielder.

Supernatural Crap: By the power of the moon sun, she shall punish thee!

In general, her supernatural abilities are centered around various aspects of the solar entity that permits life to survive on most worlds. Calling down rays of light, burning others with the power of nuclear fusion, teleporting around in flashes of light…things like that. Most of this is altered, in a similar manner to her spear, when day changes into night, but make no mistake: everything she does is derived from a single entity, not multiple.

History: It’s a mystery!

Really, though, it’s mostly just unimportant. All the really matters is that, a few years back, she had to kill all of the inhabitants of a small village when their minds were irreversibly shattered by an experimental alchemical toxin created by the local lord before killing him and everyone else involved in the project. There was also the time where she was declared to be guilty of high treason to the crown when she rescued a friend that had been investigating the actions of nobility from execution and killed a fair number of loyal soldiers in the escape process.
