Method 1
levels 1 to 15 - Cut down regular trees. It would be a good idea to cut in a dense forest like behind lumby castle(f2p) or south of seers village(p2p)
levels 15 to 30 - Cut down oak trees. A great place to cut these that is f2* is right behind lumby general store, there is 2 oak trees. When you get a full inventory just sell the logs to the general store for a small amount(when i say small i mean small. like 150gp per inventory)
levels 30 to 99 - Cut down willows. These are my personal favorite to cut down because they are great experience. If you are f2p cut these till about 75. then go to yews. Yews are not good to cut if your lower than 75. If you are a member i suggest to cut these all the way to 75 also.
Method 2
Do the 1st two steps in method one
30-75 cut down willows behind seers village bank or at barbarian assault. There's 4 willows to the north of the entrance hall and 4 to the south. There is a deposit box right inside the building.
levels 75+ Yews are not too slow here. This is the lv they become reasonable
You can cut these all to lv 99 if you'd like. Yew logs are currently worth a lot because basically the whole runescape economy revolves around them.
Method 3
Do the 1st two steps in method one
30-50 - cut down willows behind seers village bank or at barbarian assault. There's 4 willows to the north of the entrance hall and 4 to the south. There is a deposit box right inside the building.
50-99 - Cut teaks in karamaja or ape atoll.(karamaja) There is a tree patch just east of the place where you start the quest 'jungle potion'.
You will need to pay 100 trading sticks every time you enter. There is 9 teak tree's and 4 mahogany
