Dear Diary,
This evening I achieved another longtime goal - I killed Hollowtoof!
I was crafting some protean dragonhides in front of the Lumbridge Market bank chest when I received word of a goblin raid taking place at the southwest Varrock mine. I stopped crafting and teleported to Varrock. I ran to where the copper and tin ores are at the southwest mine. There were a couple of other adventurers there, but they were not fighting the goblins. I quickly and easily dispatched all ten goblin raiders and buried their bones. Aside from a few coins, all they had for loot was a set of goblin mail, 5 bronze javelins, and a bronze hatchet.
Then I turned my attention towards Hollowtoof. He was alone now - and he was angry. I decided to try out the Protect From Melee prayer, as I don't normally use prayers. Arteria and I charged Hollowtoof and attacked him! I damaged him for about a third of his health, but he hit me back pretty hard, even through the protection prayer. I broke off the fight, ran to the west Varrock bank to heal, then ran back to continue battling Hollowtoof. I did this several times, deactivating Protect From Melee when I was not in combat. As I was heading back for the third round of attacks, I noticed I had run out of Prayer Points. I didn't want to take time to recharge at an altar and give Hollowtoof a chance to escape. I fought him again, healed, and attacked again. Hollowtoof was down to his final 9600 lifepoints. I stood my ground and just kept hitting him with my most powerful attacks. He had a little under 500 health left when I hit him with Punish. Hollowtoof fell. I had beaten him!
I buried Hollowtoof's bones. He dropped goblin mail and a raider shield. This is the third raider shield I've gotten from Hollowtoof. Previously, he gave me one (plus an axe and some chain mail) in exchange for letting him go. Then I found a second raider shield after helping another person beat Hollowtoof. This was my first solo Hollowtoof kill.
