You may have an unauthorized version of the game installed on your phone. Such as, downloading a mirror of the app off of a website. Only authorized versions of the game from the Google Play Store will receive updates.

That being said, be careful with installing any apps off of websites because these apps are not checked for viruses, which may result in you losing Access to your account completely. Hope this post helped, happy Scaping.

There is also an increasingly large set of devices which are no longer able to update, even though their specs suggest they should be able to, and even though they could play earlier versions.

If the Google Play store says your device is no longer compatible, then it's one of these, and there's nothing you can do except see if the next update restores your access.

For my part, I'm assuming that no device that has become incompatible will ever get access back again; it's easier than hoping and being disappointed.
