I quite understand what xda is and open source. Yep chances are that a rom especially if a bunch of people downloaded it , it will be fine. It's like pirate Bay, chances are good that you won't get a virus on a torrent if a bunch of people did it before. Neither equal the security of Samsung , Google, or def not apple. Old phones are garbage, why would you even think otherwise? I think the Samsung s4 is garbage and gave it to my kids. It's slow , screen is worse, and nothing about it is good.

Quite whining your ancient relic of a phone that should literally be in the dumpster can't run RuneScape. Even a 855 snap dragon can't run RuneScape at a smooth frame rate with max settings. My s6 gets 5690 on geek bench right up there with the rest and I have to shut off hbao or it has dips under 30 at times.

It is all opinion you think your garbage should be allowed to play something I think it should be in the dumpster. The only fact here is that I can play RuneScape on all my none Chinese dumpster devices and you can't .

You confuse downright overheating with long term heat damage by playing games like this for long time frames over many months or years. You can adjust all the Hz you want Skippy and still, you have an increased risk ALWAYS of a device that develops issues that requires a replacement device.

Ever ask your self why an ARM based CPU can attain 2.5Ghz with no active cooling? Yep, you guessed it, it was designed only to attain that speed when needed and for relatively short time frames ( among other enhancements ARM made ). When you run RS, you keep that CPU awake and closer to it's top speed. These CPUs simply where not made for that.

Can you? Yes. For how long before you have issues? Indeterminate.

As noted above, ARM CPUs in a smartphone form factor with no possibility of active cooling are not designed to be used for games like RS. That is where this Mobile version is short sighted.

As to the list of phones that are being cut from the game. It is arbitrary. The phones being cut off are no less capable then phones still supported. You also seem to think that Jagex cut them off for some insecurity issue and I highly doubt that is the case. They would have no need for their own security to block a given phone and those wishing to use those phones are the ones that generally should decide if that device is secure enough to play.

OFC, it would help if Jagex would explain themselves as to why they cut these phones off but communication has never been a thing for Jagex.
