Regardless, perhaps NXT is 'far superior' to Java in some universe, but it's not this one. Apart from barely working at all, it's simply looks worse than does Java, apart from water quality. Yes I have updated my computer's graphics drivers.
sigh
That's your own opinion, but
objectively
the NXT client is the far superior client as 96% of the player base uses it.
It's not enough to say, "apart from barely working at all", as this suggests that your computer is lacking the specifications to sufficiently (i.e. more than 30 fps) play using the NXT client on even the minimum graphics setting.
Again, it is subjective to say that it looks worse than the Java client. For many players of 96% of the player base, the NXT client looks better than the Java client. Isn't that why they are using it in the first place?! Not to mention that the NXT client runs better for modern computers compared to the outdated Java client.
So, what is your graphics card? If it's an outdated one, it wouldn't matter how updated the driver is... as it is probably too weak to even work with the NXT client.
Well, for instance, chatheads in NXT are still affected by the same bug that affected Java DirectX (but not OpenGL) until finally being fixed this year: their textures are sort of almost absent. Try comparing standard human chatheads between Java and NXT, for instance; the latter have an almost invisible nose. (the forum avatars use the Java model, which looks fine)
Other than such things, yes it's subjective. Although I'm not sure you can conclude all 96% prefer NXT. Some might simply play it because Jagex keep spamming about it when you play Java, but okay, it's probably still a majority.
My graphics card is whatever was in my computer when we bought it.
It's from 2012 and has been able to handle Java on max graphics just fine over the years.
