Welcome to Season 29 of the Runescape Football League

Dear Lurker:

Runescape football was founded over thirteen years ago in May 2007 by Dino Wino and over 40+ seasons have been played. The RFL is the surviving league of a sport that redefined genius and shows a true lasting ability. Several players from 2007 still play today, displaying how true the meaning of friendship really is. If you are interested in joining a community that is centered around having fun, then the RFL is for you. Please ask myself or one of our league members for information about our discord server. Thank you for taking the time to read through this post and we look forward to welcoming you to our league!

Sincerely,

The RFL

How to Play

• Games are played in player owned houses (POHs) that are seven houses long by two houses wide. The playing surface must be free of any obstructions and the end of the field on both sides is the end zone. The squares along the wall are out of bounds, or the sideline.

• Games consist of two, ten minute halves separated by a five minute halftime. The clock only stops on incomplete passes, timeouts, challenges, the two minute warning, and running out of bounds.

• Before the game starts, the home team will select whether they want to begin with the ball or kick the ball to the other team. The away team will choose which side of the field that they want to defend.

• The team that receives the ball first, will start at the first window on the field. This window is located five squares from the end zone.

• The team receiving first will then have four downs to reach the end zone. If they do not score, it is a turnover and the other team gets the ball where the turnover occurred.

• If a team scores, they can elect to go for a one point conversion, or a two point conversion. A one point conversion is the second window from the end zone they scored in. A two point conversion is the third window from the end zone they scored in.

Defensive Concepts

• A defensive end is typically tasked with guarding the quarterback. His job is to prevent the quarterback from running, and attempting to sack him when he is able to.

• A corner is typically playing man coverage or zone coverage on a wide receiver. Zone coverage means you are tasked with covering a specific area on the field. Man coverage involves playing trade defense on the wide receiver.

• Trade defense is an advanced technique that takes practice. Once upon a time players were allowed to follow wide receivers, but follow defense has been banned from the league due to a cheating scandal.

• Trade defense requires the ability to trade the wide receivers as they run their routes to stay in coverage on them. If you are unable to keep up, you will get beat and thrown on for a touchdown. If you play good coverage, you still have to have the skill to make the tackle or go for an incomplete pass.

• Safeties generally are used to help in man coverage. They normally help the weaker corner out and double cover one receiver. Using a safety concedes space to the quarterback who can then run the ball much easier.

* In zone coverage, teams generally use one defensive end, with three corners. They position themselves in a 1-4 lineup. (Four CB's are spread across the field about 12 squares off the line of scrimmage. Not all games are 5 v 5 however, so in 4 v 4 the typical zone is a 3 man zone 12 squares away.

• Run defense requires being able to tackle a player while they are running with the ball. Generally, the two types of run defense are attacking and containing.

• Attackers generally go after the quarterback and take a more direct path to him.

• Containers try and force the runner to cutback, and hope to trap him in an area where the attacker can make the tackle.

• Staying disciplined on defense is key.

Commonly Used Terms

• Common terms are abbreviations that are used during games. Rookies should learn these as they are used often.

Tackle (D): Running through or touching any part of a player, results in continuation of the clock, a loss of down, and the new line of scrimmage being the spot of the tackle.

Incomplete (Inc): Running onto a player as he is catching a ball. A catch is defined as having two hands on the ball so the defensive player must be on the receiver as he is completing the catch process. An incomplete pass results in a loss of a down and stoppage of the clock.

Sack: Running through the quarterback on or behind the line of scrimmage when he is legally able to be hit.

Touchdown (TD): Reaching the end of the field with the ball results in a touchdown. You can throw, run, or get an interception to score a touchdown.

Good: Converting a two-point or one-point conversion.

No Good: Failing to convert an extra point.

Interception (Int): When the quarterback throws the ball to a defensive player. This results in the defensive team taking over on offense. Additionally, if a defensive player records two incomplete passes in a row, the play will be ruled an interception.

Out: Running out of bounds will result in a stoppage of the clock. Additionally, catching a pass out of bounds will result in an incomplete pass and stoppage of the clock.

P: This means there is a penalty on the play.

Common Penalties

Moving Center: If hike is called the center is required to throw the ball to the quarterback. If the center moves before throwing the ball, it is a moving center penalty.

Offsides: Being on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage will result in a penalty.

False Start: A penalty will result if the ball is in the air as hike is called.

Two Balls: A team
